Today I had the amazing opportunity to interview Ray Atkinson from Avalon Memory Care here in #cedarpark. We sat down and talked about so many different aspects of care when memory becomes a new factor during elderly care. Avalon Memory Care has pioneered a unique model of care that is tailored to the individual special needs of those affected with Alzheimer’s disease, dementia and cognitive impairments in a safe and secure environment. Avalon Memory Care was founded in 1995 by Richard Seib and Dr. Dan Griff. Richard was involved in a ministry that reached out to the elderly population at their local church. As he was visiting nursing homes he recognized how ill equipped these facilities were to take care of patients that suffered from declining dementia and Alzheimer’s. Instead of focusing on just the medical care, Richard wanted to see a more palliative and home-styled approach that focused on the residents’ overall well-being and quality of life.
