Celebrating 50 Years of Godfrey Daniels with Dave Fry & John Gorka - Your Next Favorite Band

Early in the year 1976, a young musician was seeking a place to perform where people wanted to listen. Frustrated by the spaces where you'd play to a crowd that was otherwise distracted, he sought to find and create an environment where the musician and the audience shared the room and the exchange of energy would be something special. The owner of what was then the Lehigh Tavern (nowadays known as The Funhouse) mentioned that the doughnut shoppe next door was vacant. And the rest is history ... sonically beautiful history. That person was Dave Fry and that space became the legendary Godfrey Daniels. For this episode we honor the legacy of the space and help promote their upcoming Jubilee gala happening on Sat May 23rd to help raise funds for an exciting announcement happening that evening. Details on the Jubilee gala to celebrate 50 years of Godfrey Daniels I'm joined by special guest co-hosts Managing Director Ramona LaBarre and Board Member / committe lead for the Jubilee Kate Hughes. And we have a special pre-recorded interview with co-founder Dave Fry and early performer and volunteer John Gorka, who's gone on to an illustrious career as a singer/songwriter and performer. We explore the founding of the club and how those early years quickly revealed that they built something special. Sadie Gust - Your Next Favorite Band

A songstress from the moment she entered the world, Sadie Gust is the type of musician that was born to do it. And while she's only at the beginning of her journey, she's already garnering praise and earning accolades for her songwriting and performing. Sadie has won the XPN 24-hour songwriting contest, made it to Hollywood on American Idol, and has released 2 EPs and several singles, with more on the way. Weakened Friends - Your Next Favorite Band

I became a fan of Weakened Friends straight off of the first listen of their iconic hit "Blue Again" back in 2019 in preparation of Musikfest that summer. This many years later, and now hosting a podcast, the opportunity came up to be able to interview Sonia Sturino and Annie Hoffman and I jumped at the opportunity. They've just released brand new music, and it is there best stuff yet. The album is called Feels Like Hell, and comes out of a long wait - not quite "writer's block", more like waiting for the right time to harness the songwriting creativity. We get in to all the things - their early journeys to music, how the found each other, finding balance between their approaches that can be at odds, and navigating where people are allowed to go on stage. Symmetry Wood's Pyrus product with Gabe Tavas & Tim Keating - Your Next Favorite Band

I had the honor of attending the first Sustainability Summit hosted by Martin Guitar last October and was so inspired by the speakers, the panels, the information and the people I met while I was there. One of the speakers and tabling organizations was Symmetry Wood, and met co-founders CEO Gabe Tavas and CSO Tim Keating. I was so impressed with their inventive approach to replacing the precious tonewoods and endangered materials that go in to the making of musical instruments, particularly fretboards and fingerboards. HOW THEY DO IT We use bacterial nanocellulose, which is very similar to the cellulose essential to tree-derived wood. It can be gathered as waste from kombucha breweries, or generated from other types of organic waste. Pyrus® is a petroleum-free wood-like material sustainably produced with repurposed bacterial cellulose from the kombucha industry. No Planet B Pre-Jam 2026 - Your Next Favorite Band

Check this ep out for all things No Planet B Jamboree this year and then some. This is our 4th annual event centered around sustainability and conservation within the music industry and beyond. I'll be joined by special guest co-host Aimee Kohler of The Running Kind, who's helping host the 5k Fun Run prior to the music starting for the 2nd year in a row. Ben Kogan | Musicians for Sustainability - Your Next Favorite Band

I attended a Sustainability Summit for the music industry hosted by Martin Guitar back in the fall of 2025. It was a great day of panels, Q&A and networking that includes musicians, manufacturers and support organizations all seeking to make the industry a bit more green, sustainable and less negative impact to the earth. While there, I was able to listen to Ben Kogan speak on one of the panels, and share how "easy" it was to make certain decisions for hosting live music festivals that would be much better for the environment. And so I approached him during one of the breaks and asked him if he'd come on the show to talk about it, and perhaps help improve the No Planet B Jamboree's overall impact. His organization Reusable Solutions and moreso Musicians for Sustainability help work with event organizers in key areas and if they establish certain benchmarks can become a certified festival at varying levels - which we've been able to achieve! Tune in as we learn about Ben's music journey, the inspirations behind the nonprofits he's formed, and we talk through the process of getting a festival certified. It'll be a good one! Band Bio Ben Kogan Band blends Indie-Americana with jazz and bluegrass sensibilities. A graduate of the University of Miami for Jazz Bass, Ben spent two years in Boston performing with future household names like Rubblebucket, Lake Street Dive, David Wax Museum, and Della Mae, before spending 12 years in NYC and Brooklyn. He relocated to Woodstock, VT in 2021 with his wife and son and now lives in Barnard. In the world we live in with streaming services often times our new music suggestions grow stagnant. The algorithm suggests what you’ve listened to before & after awhile sometimes I find myself longing for a spark to hear something new. Phil from your next fav band makes it his life’s work to discover that new band for you! His musical styles are varied and there always seems to be something for everyone. He also really knows how to keep the conversation flowing & how to keep it entertaining. If you’re looking for a new podcast to get sucked into look no further!!

These guys are great. I love the interviews and hearing the stories from the artists themselves - they really get into their creativity and thinking which is super cool. But mostly I love discovering new music and artists that I’ve never heard before. They truly do find your next favorite band.

It’s been enjoyable to experience the enthusiasm of being introduced to bands and hear from the musicians themselves or the fans of their music. Perspectives from those in the performing arts industry round out the coverage of bands, the venues they play at, and more. Hosts Phillip and David bring such a positive podcast centered on the music and the bands while being kind and enjoyable. Their enthusiasm and honestly are some of my favorite bits. Learning about bands and being introduced to them is such a delight. Whether they are covering MusikFest in Bethlehem, PA or introducing us to bands, their insights and giving artists and industry professionals a platform to be talk, discuss, and share in a way that is entertaining, educating, and enthusiastic.
