Judah Kim - Your Next Favorite Band

Judah Kim - Your Next Favorite Band

Tune in this week as we spend time with Judah Kim - a Philly-based "underdog" DIY alt-rocker who's songs have soaring vocals, and structure that put your ears at ease.  David puts forth a "Beatles/Radiohead" vibe, and that sounds just about perfect.

Judah was born in Philly, the 7th of 8 from parents to immigrated from South Korea.  A proud Asian American, Judah is passionate to share that a path in rock n roll is there and to raise awareness on the mental health impact of a culture with a excessively strong emphasis on academics and success.  So he and 4 other Asian American fronted bands came together to produce Asian American Pie and will be all performing on Sat May 11th at World Cafe Live in Philly.

Check out his blog article "Why an All Asian Rock Show is Important"

We'll also spend time discussing the rest of Judah's story and share some of his music, like the incredible tracks "Fate" and my personal favorite "Backdoor".  Judah will also perform live during the broadcast, and with his home studio this is sure to sound amazing.

    Don't miss this one!

Eliza Hardy Jones - Your Next Favorite Band

Eliza Hardy Jones - Your Next Favorite Band

This week's conversation will have it all - incredible music, inspiring story, deep conversation about overcoming grief, international relations, trips to the arctic circle, synesthesia, quilting with brilliance, and even the Philadelphia Eagles.  Yep...all of that!  So you will not want to miss our conversation with Eliza Hardy Jones.

Of course, primarily this is about the first item on that list - and Eliza has just released a gem of an album called Pickpocket, and while it's full of the journey through the grief of attempting to have a child and feeling like you've tried everything, the music somehow has the ability to ease the pain and bring comfort...and hope.

We'll explore this wonderful release with her, and take a trip with her through all of the other incredible elements of her story - including her time performing with Grace Potter, Iron & Wine, and her current band The War on Drugs.  Which also lead her to work with Jason Kelce, Jordan Mailata and Lane Johnson as the vocal coach for the Philly Special Christmas albums.  And the incredible Song Quilt Project!

As always, our hope is to bring you "your next favorite band". If you tuned in today because you already knew this musician - thank you very much! Moustapha Noumbissi - Your Next Favorite Band

Moustapha Noumbissi - Your Next Favorite Band

Get ready for the psychedelic soul of Moustapha Noumbissi - Philly-based multi-instrumentalist who music is emerging and on the rise right now.

Born in Belgium to Cameroonian parents, Moustapha grew up a participant of many musical traditions, including West African drumming, American pop, and choral music.

We get in to all of that and then some...how he acquired his guitar from his college roommate before he even knew how to play, how his enormous hands impacted his learning and playing of the guitar, and how being an athlete shaped his approach to music.  And he will play live during the interview!

Also, Moustapha is the headliner for our 2nd Annual No Planet B Jamboree on Sunday, April 21st 2024, so please Save the Date and plan to come on out to this FREE event in Bethlehem.  More details are available at nextfavband.com/no-planet-b-jamboree-2024/

A huge thank you to John Vettese and Bruce Warren from WXPN for letting use 2 songs that Moustapha recorded live at WXPN in Philadelphia for The Key Studio Sessions.  You can check out those videos and an article about them here

A Day Without Love - Your Next Favorite Band

A Day Without Love - Your Next Favorite Band

Brian Walker is on a mission to spread good vibes.  He achieves this through many, many ways.  Of course our focus today will be to feel those vibes through his music and his band A Day Without Love.

Take a moment to spend some time as we hear about his early inspirations, how his poetry got turned in to the first songs, and how one of them, inspired by the ugliness of domestic violence that he helped stop, became the band name and launched the mission to help others rise above their own struggles.

Brian will perform live, and we'll share additional tracks from his catalog that shows off his infectious folk punk sound.

Episode 100! Featuring Blair Crimmins & the Hookers, Carver Commodore, and George Wacker of Lehigh Valley with Love

Episode 100! Featuring Blair Crimmins & the Hookers, Carver Commodore, and George Wacker of Lehigh Valley with Love

98...99...100!!  We've been livestreaming and publishing podcasts for almost 2 years now, releasing content weekly for the majority of that time, and we are now at our 100th episode.  Can't believe it!  Thank you all so much for tuning in, downloading, and trusting us to introduce you to "your next favorite band".

To help us honor the century mark, we'll be joined first by George Wacker of Lehigh Valley with Love, who provided a platform for this idea to germinate, then by Blair Crimmins who was the very first guest I ever interviewed, and then by Carver Commodore, who were the band that made me feel validated throughout the process of inviting, prepping, interviewing and the various shenanigans that follow.  We also may have another surprise or two up our sleeves as well for the broadcast.

We will be announcing our line-up for the No Planet B Jamboree, which is happening Sun 4/21 at 2pm ET in Bethlehem, PA, which includes Moustapha Noumbissi, CLOVER and Galen Deery & Mystik Fool.  More info to follow!

We'll be having all the feels for sure.  And we'd love to hear if there have been any bands we've introduced you to over these 100 episodes, and who you think we should make OUR next favorite band, and seek to bring on for episode 101+.

Thank you all once again...this has been quite the honor.

As always, our hope is to bring you "your next favorite band". If you tuned in today because you already knew this musician - thank you very much! Awesome New Band Discovery

In the world we live in with streaming services often times our new music suggestions grow stagnant. The algorithm suggests what you’ve listened to before & after awhile sometimes I find myself longing for a spark to hear something new. Phil from your next fav band makes it his life’s work to discover that new band for you! His musical styles are varied and there always seems to be something for everyone. He also really knows how to keep the conversation flowing & how to keep it entertaining. If you’re looking for a new podcast to get sucked into look no further!!

Uncovers a whole new world of music

These guys are great. I love the interviews and hearing the stories from the artists themselves - they really get into their creativity and thinking which is super cool. But mostly I love discovering new music and artists that I’ve never heard before. They truly do find your next favorite band.
