    What God Does With 4 | Raiding Hell | September 20th, 2026

    This Sunday is special, we’re turning 4! That’s a big deal for us, at least we think so! God has done so much through you, and we want to pause and celebrate. We’re often bad at pausing and doing that. We’re often a people who are on to the next thing, asking God for more. We want to have a rhythm of just stopping as a church and saying, “Thank you, Lord,” as we look at all He has done these past few years. And if you’re new to our church, let me just say this: God has been way better than we thought He was going to be. We’re continuing our series Raiding Hell, looking at a passage in Mark 2 with a message titled, “What God Does with 4.” We’ll spend time looking back at 4, looking around at what God has done in 4 years, and looking at a passage about someone who needed to be carried by 4! It will be the theme of the day! Jesus has built this house, and we want to glorify His name. We want to be people like the 4 unnamed people in this story who are just trying to get one more person into Jesus’ presence, no matter what it takes! We have a special guest with us this Sunday, and you’ll be in for a treat. Before we multiply as a church, we need to remember how far we have come and all that God has done.     Called to Catch | Raiding Hell | September 13th, 2026

    Jesus didn’t form His church to be a day spa; He sends us on a mission worth giving our lives to. Church family, This Sunday, we continue our series Raiding Hell as we look at the type of person Jesus calls to do the work. It’s very odd when you look at the group Jesus forms. He doesn’t get the most educated, religious, or well-rounded group. He calls people who are busy doing their own thing, living paycheck to paycheck, seeking to provide for their families, and pursuing dreams they’re trying to live out. He meets them on their turf, shows them a powerful illustration, and calls them to start “catching men.” This Sunday, we’ll be in Luke 5, looking at the moment Jesus calls Peter to leave his fishing career and follow Him. It’s a reminder that Jesus doesn’t call the qualified; He qualifies the called. There are so many powerful lessons in this story that we can apply to our own lives. Most of us, like Peter, are busy building our own platforms, lives, and careers. But Jesus has something more important for us to pursue: people. The people we interact with every day are people we’re called to “catch” and rescue from fire. Jesus wants to use you and me to call people by name through us. The problem is that most of us don’t feel equipped, qualified, or worthy to do this. We’re filled with fear and confronted with the reality of our own sinfulness. But there is good news when we feel this way. When we look at Scripture, we see that Jesus is calling all of us to be fishers of men, no matter where we are in our journey. What if spiritual maturity was measured by catching others not knowing we should?     Hospital Heart | Raiding Hell | September 6th, 2026

    In order to effectively Raid Hell each one of us must have a “hospital heart.” Celebrate with me the 18 people who accepted Christ last Sunday at our Story Sunday! God is good! FIVE39 is a hospital, not a hotel. We’re seeking to raid hell and populate heaven. Our church mission and the reason we exist is to reach people far from God and invite them into Jesus’ family. As we continue in our message series, Raiding Hell, we will be looking at the calling of Matthew. This is found in Matthew 9:9–13. Matthew is an interesting character in the Bible. He was a tax collector. In Jesus’ day, tax collectors were people who notoriously cheated and stole from others. More than likely, Matthew was not well-liked in his community. We see Jesus raiding hell and asking this unlikely candidate to be a part of His team! “Follow me.” Two words, huge ask. But Matthew accepts Jesus’ invitation. Matthew does what any new, on-fire follower of Jesus should do: He throws a party with his friends! Of course, the Pharisees show up and try to ruin the party. Jesus has a few things to say to them! The calling of Matthew has a lot to teach us about what raiding hell looks like. We are excited to be worshiping and celebrating God with you this Sunday! Let’s raid hell and populate heaven.     Still Standing! | The Jesus Way | August 23rd, 2026

    This summer, covering the best sermon ever recorded by Jesus has been magical. We’ve seen 129 people give their lives to Him, covered some very difficult topics, and slowed down our teaching rhythm. We hope you’ve been as blessed by it as we have. We truly believe we’ve come out of this series spiritually stronger than we were before as a church family. This week, we wrap up the series as Jesus lands His sermon with a simple, relatable invitation we all need. Every single person who is alive will face “storms” in life. Everyone is either going into a storm, in one, or coming out of one. Storms can swallow you up and knock you down, or you can withstand the storms you face in life. Jesus is actually simple and practical. It’s often like we want to know some secret, hidden code that no one else knows, thinking our “storms” are unique compared to everyone else’s. We compare, complain, and make life about us. As people living in Akron, Ohio, in 2026, we’re actually really bad at suffering. We don’t know how to handle even small storms without feeling like they’re massive. We need to slow down in this passage and have that conversation—to look at what Jesus says and… do it. It’s actually pretty simple. We’ll talk about what’s true of all storms and how to survive and remain standing in the storms we face. Most people, though, have fallen greatly in their storms and find themselves at the feet of Jesus. You’re in good company, and there is hope for you if you’ve fallen time and time again. Some storms are because of sin, stupidity, or simply the hand of God. Jesus invites us to be a people who can withstand ANY storm with Him. We’ve fallen a time or two, or twenty! We want to be left still standing, which is possible with Jesus.     Will You Enter? | The Jesus Way | August 16th, 2026

    This week, we look at what may scariest words in the entire Bible. Jesus addresses people who are convinced they’re going to heaven when they die but actually are not. They will hear the words, “Depart from me; I never knew you.” Can you imagine living your entire life believing you would one day see Jesus face to face, convinced you would enter heaven, only to be rejected by Him for eternity? One may not think of anything more terrifying. This was actually Mike’s story before he truly gave his life to Jesus. “I had said a prayer, attended church, was baptized, went to Bible studies, and even had seasons where there appeared to be fruit in my life, but I didn’t have a real relationship with Jesus until later on. It’s sobering to think that Jesus says “many” will stand before Him and tell Him about all the things they did for Him, yet He will say He never knew them personally.” This passage is desperately needed in the church today. Do we really know Jesus? Do we walk with Him daily? Do our lives bear the fruit of genuine faith? Or do we simply give lip service while our hearts are far from Him? The good news is that Jesus doesn’t want us to live in doubt. He wants us to examine ourselves and have assurance that we belong to Him. Some people don’t need to doubt their salvation; they need to examine their lives and then rest in the assurance that comes from knowing Christ. And as the church, we don’t need to play the salvation police. That’s Jesus’ job, gratefully. But there are also “many” who need to hear these words of Jesus, realize they are not headed to heaven, and lay down their lives in genuine faith and trust in Him for the very first time. Knowing about Jesus and knowing Jesus are two very different things. “I really do believe there will be people in the room this Sunday who need to surrender their lives to Christ. They need to examine themselves and realize there is no fruit, no desire for Christ, and no evidence of new life. I’m praying that God would save many people who are “unsaved Christians.” That was my story about 15 years ago.     Logs, Specks & Mirrors | The Jesus Way | August 8th, 2026

    This week, we will look at Matthew 7:1–14. Jesus is beginning to wind down His sermon and has a few more things He wants to share with His listeners. He wants to encourage them not to be judgmental toward others. It’s hard nowadays not to judge others, especially if they do not think the same way we do or believe the same things we do. We will talk about what Jesus expects from us and what it actually means to be judgmental. Jesus also asks His listeners—and us today—to ask, seek, and knock. He is calling us to be persistent in prayer. Isn’t it incredible to think that Jesus wants an intimate relationship with us? It is just as incredible to think about how good God is and how He desires to give good things to His children! Jesus also establishes what we know today as the Golden Rule. His desire is for us to treat others the way we would like to be treated. We will talk about why Jesus mentions this at this point in His message, what it looks like to live by this principle, and what life looks like when we do not. Finally, Jesus issues a warning. He talks about a wide gate and a narrow gate. Many people walk through the wide gate and follow the path it offers. Jesus says only a few walk through the narrow gate and follow the path it offers. We will talk about what these gates represent and what they mean for us today.     Anyone Anxious? | The Jesus Way | August 2nd, 2026

    We live in an anxious world. More people than ever are wrestling with anxiety. More people are seeing counselors, taking medication, and trying to find relief. We're all looking for answers to a struggle that seems to be affecting so many lives. We could share statistic after statistic, don't need to, we already know. This message is titled “Anyone Anxious?" because, for many of us, the answer is yes. We’re anxious about our kids, pregnancy, health, parents, our bodies, or anxious about anxiety itself. This Sunday will be more pastoral than passionate.  Sometimes anxiety is connected to sin or circumstances, but often it's simply part of living in a Genesis 3 world. Our hope for this message is to help lift your eyes, even for a moment, to see both the hand and the heart of Jesus. If you feel like you're sinking, overwhelmed, and just trying to survive, I want you to see that Jesus is reaching for you.     More Money | The Jesus Way | July 26th, 2026

    This Sunday we continue our series through the greatest sermon ever preached as Jesus turns to the topic of… money. Jesus talks about money more than almost any other subject, not because He cares about money the most, but because He knows we do. Money has a way of capturing our hearts. We think about it, plan around it, check our bank accounts more than our Bibles, wish we had more even when we have enough, and often let it keep us from following Jesus. In this passage, Jesus teaches us what it really means to invest in heaven. So much of our world is consumed with investing on earth. We think about retiring early, making our money "work for us," building passive income, and growing our portfolios. None of those things are inherently wrong. But Jesus calls us to ask: What are we investing in that will last forever? Jesus doesn't need our money, but He does expect generosity from those who follow Him. We can't say He has our hearts while refusing to let Him have our wallets. As you can imagine, this message impacts every one of us. Many people have had painful experiences with churches or leaders when it comes to money. To be clear, working hard, saving for retirement, investing wisely, or building passive income is bad. We should steward those opportunities well. We just want to make sure we are investing more in heaven than we are on earth. One day, when we stand before Jesus, we'll discover what truly mattered and where our treasure really was. Jesus spoke about money more than almost any other topic because He knew it would reveal who or what we trust. We have a lot to cover this Sunday, and I'm looking forward to opening God's Word together.
