Key Highlights: [00:00:04] Teaching to Learn [00:00:59] Approach to Pricing and Value [00:02:04] Key to Success for Creative Entrepreneurs [00:04:35] The Three Stages of Chris Do's Career [00:05:15] Teaching as a Passion [00:09:34] Developing Thick Skin [00:11:39] Standing Up for Himself [00:13:05 - 00:14:59] Winning Awards [00:15:31 - 00:16:15] Common Problems of Creatives [00:23:05] Building The Right Team [00:24:01] The Story of The Futur [00:28:19] The importance of core values [00:31:45] Practical steps for introverts to show up [00:37:00] Embracing Vulnerability [00:41:24] Biggest Failure in Business [00:44:37] Pushing beyond comfort zones Notable Quotes: * One teaches, two learn. * I've always loved teaching. I just couldn't find a good business model that made sense * I don't imagine that there's a second job after this. This is it for me, whether I make a lot of money or no money at all. This is what I'm gonna do. * I start to realize this is something I love to do and I'd like to do it more because it's very thrilling to be able to help someone. But you also learn so much about yourself and the way you think in your creative process when you share it with someone else. * I'd like to teach in a style that I've described as full-contact teaching. There's no light sparring here. If we want to learn, we have to learn how to get uncomfortable with each other. * I don't think many people are born thick-skinned. I think it's something you develop, uh, through conditioning, and the more you expose yourself to criticism, the less it's going to bother you. You, you learn how to cope and overcome these things. * Perfectionism is a strategy to avoid something. So it's an avoidance strategy. * Entrepreneurship is a lonely endeavor. It's a lonely pursuit. * So I would say to everybody, one, make sure before you make a big expensive decision like this that is grounded in reality and that there's some, a level of commitment from you and your team to make it work. Otherwise, you're going to just self-sabotage. 6. How to Build a Powerful Brand Story with Philip VanDusen

    09/27/2022

How to Build a Powerful Brand Story with Philip VanDusen

How to Build a Powerful Brand Story with Philip Vandusen Standing out in the industry of changing lives can be challenging. Your brand story can help you communicate what you are about because branding is all about stories too. For this episode, we talk to Philip Vandusen, a creative coach and the man behind Verhaal Designs- a strategic design & branding consultancy based in the US.  With over 2 decades of experience in brand strategy, graphic design and product development,  his experience includes  a plethora of the world’s most recognized  brands namely Lays, GE, Microsoft, Procter and Gamble and National Geographic. Also quite notably Old Navy, the most successful retailer in history and the company he helped  reach $1B in sales in under 5 years.  We chat with Philip and find out what it takes to have a good brand story, what to pursue to gain clarity in case you’re still unsure, and how can your brand story help transform the lives of others. Episode Highlights: [00:52] How I met Philip Vandusen [01:06] Interviewing Philip with my audio tech in chaos [02:00] Who is Philip Vandusen? [02:47] What does Verhaal mean? [03:42] The start of Philip’s creative career [06:10] How to tell a good brand story? [09:06] The difference of a brand story that succeeds and the one that fails [12:15] Obstacles of creatives when it comes to building their brand story [13:02] 2 Types of Skillsets  [14:39] Struggles of a Creative Coach [17:33] Philip talks about failure [23:26] Should you really pursue your passion? [24:50] How can your personal brand story help transform the lives of others? [25:23] One of the best days of Philip’s life Quotable Quotes: “People don't buy what you do; they buy why you do it. And what you do simply proves what you believe”-Simon Sinek Start with Why Every brand evolves, no brand is static. Our progression is not linear.  Having the ability to really articulate that story in an effective and emotive way is the difference between a brand that succeeds and one that fails. No brand is ever done. A T-shaped skillset is where you're really good and deep in one. A V-shaped skill set is where you're really good in deep in one thing. But you can also do a bunch of other things kind of half well or somewhat. I'm really transparent around the challenges that I've had because people can identify with that. People come for coaching not because they're feeling fantastic about where they are. People come for coaching because they're struggling or they're struggling emotionally or psychologically or financially or in their career the y've met some sort of obstacle that they're trying to find their way around.  It's really hard to admit your failures but the more you do it, the more it helps people. I'll never get over the excitement of seeing some sort of artwork that I've done walking down the street on someone's chest. Curiosity to me is a slower burn. It's more of a process. It's more of something that evolves over time. So I counsel people to pay attention to what they're curious about. Passion is what results from the pursuit of curiosity, that over time as you pursue what you're curious about and it gets clearer, what it is that really lights your fire passion is the reason. Of years of curiosity, so that you develop a passion for something it's not something that you decide upfront. Transformation  is about accepting those side jogs in the web of your career or your life. I want to be remembered as a creative person who helped other people have wonderful creative lives. My goal is to help, help creative succeed in life. 8. Dina Samuel: The Savage Coach Mompreneur

    09/02/2022

Dina Samuel: The Savage Coach Mompreneur

Dina Samuel: The Savage Mompreneur Bold. Loud. SAVAGE! Here is the story of Dina Samuel, a mom who beat all odds and built a successful digital marketing agency and coaching business that all stemmed from her unconditional love for her son.  This Savage Coach Mompreneur’s pregnancy journey was plagued with every imaginable complication but this just fueled her to soldier on by letting her son's birth story be the push to turn her back on her corporate career for good.  Learn about her challenging beginnings, why she is a fan of Wonder Woman, and how she is as a coach and a super mom at home. Episode Highlights: [01:00] A familiar scene for work-from-home parents [03:05] The ultimate reason why Dina turned her back on her corporate career for good. [05:16] How the Do More Give More coaching program began [07:37] Dina as the Savage Coach [08:38] Dina and Wonderwoman [11:50] The launch of the Do More Give More Pro Group [15:08] The most common reason why business owners fail [17:22] Dina at home [19:00] The challenges of a work-from-home- mom [26:54] The Future Coach [28:10] Why she’s so passionate about coaching [32:00] Why her story hits close to home Quotable Quotes: * Proximity gives peace of mind. * The hell that I went through in 2015, this is the core of okay. If you say that “ Dina is successful”, it's because of this. * Dina didn't choose the word. Savage people chose it for her. One thing led to another. In 2020, she became a coach in the tribe and we leveraged the title Savage coach of the Savage society. * I'm always fascinated with stories of underdogs rising to the surface even before. And,  that's how I've been trying to live my life really being friends with the underdogs because I'm very much like them. * Laziness is a huge disrespect to those who believe in you. * Dwelling on what you can do, what you can't figure out, or not making time for it, just because your excuses is way heavier than your why, your reason why you want it- that's just bull to me.  * There's just no wrong and right decision. There's just accountability afterwards. * Research shows that 58% of remote workers are women. People with children under 5 are most likely to want to work from home at least one day per week. * I cannot be absent in my son’s life. * I wanted to build this for me, freedom that whenever my son calls me, I'd be able to attend to him whenever he needs me. * Building a business is a blessing and a curse. * I always believe that things happen for good. * I'm going to make sure that's going to be a superstar.  That's just me. That's me as a coach. * You can't afford to just keep it to yourself. Like it's a disgrace to God. Not sharing this part, not sharing your time, not sharing your story, not sharing your strength, not sharing your another day. * I'm just grateful to be in this position right now, where I'm able to give.
