Season 2; Episode 18: Seahawks Offseason Review (So Far)

Ask us a Lightning Round Question! https://www.latenightinseattle.com/ask-us-a-question Main Event -NFL Free Agency started up. The Hawks have made some notable resignings and additions: re-signed DE Leonard Williams and TE Noah Fant. Brought back OT George Fant and traded for QB Sam Howell. -Sam Howell earns 10% of Drew Lock's salary this year and is younger than Bo Nix. Don't worry about the Hawks taking a QB in the draft.   - Bobby Wagner signed with the Commanders and Jordyn Brooks signed with the Chargers. -Tyler Lockett restructured his contract to take up less cap space. Talk about a team player.   -Quandre Diggs and Jamal Adams are both gone. Rayshaun Jenkins (formerly of Jaxonville) was signed to a 2-year deal. Right now it's him and Julian Love in the Safety spot -Hawks also signed DAWG Nick Harris. Harris won 1st team all conference 2x at Center. Nice addition   Current Events -UW Men's basketball season is over. They announced prior to their final 2 games that they're firing Mike Hopkins after the season. They proceeded to beat top-25 ranked Wazzu in Pullman on senior night and then lose to USC in their final regular season game  -The Dawgs had an instant rematch against USC in the 1st round of the final iteration of the Pac12 tournament. They lost by 5 in a game that saw them make 9 3PFGs in the 1st half.  - A couple days ago, the last homegrown player Hop ever recruited, Koren Johnson, announced he is entering the transfer portal. KJ earned P12 6th man of the year award. Keion Brooks got 1st team all conference,.  - Rumor has it the Huskies are targeting Utah St HC Danny Sprinkle to take over the program   - A new March tradition has started this year: The Women's NIT. UW was fortunate enough to get an invite and they host Gerogetown at HecEd on Thursday evening.    - Mariners spring training is in full force with the season starting next weekend  -They've scored more runs than any other Cactus league team and also given up the most runs of any CL team. ST results are historically meaningless, but if I have 1 takeaway from this I think it means the Mariners will be fun to watch this year.

Season 2; Episode 17: Mariners Spring Training has Begun!

Main Event | The Seattle Mariners | Remember the 2023 season when the Mariners were a total mess and we all ended the season with an utter sense of doom and gloom? Then they didn't sign any of the big name free agents and now we're all left to assume they'll go .500 after flirting with the playoffs 3 years in a row?? Well we're here to tell you about how excited you should be about this season. | The M's record last year was 88-74. They finished 2 GB of the Astros and Rangers for 1st in the West. Their expected W-L based on run differential was 91-71...would've been 1st in the division | They didn't lose any core pitching from last year. They return a full 6 man rotation of All-Stars Castillo and Kirby, Ace-in-the-making Logan Gilbert, phenoms Bryce Miller and Bryan Woo, and young Emerson Hancock. | They only bolstered their league-best bullpen with the addition of Gregory Santos. Santos is a sort-of low-calorie Andres Munooz, with a 99pmh fastball and 91 mph Slider. He K's nearly a quarter of the batters he faces and rarely issues a free pass. Last year in 60 IP he only gave up 2 HR. Current Events | Mariners kicked off spring training this weekend and have already given us something to talk about. Mitch Haniger went bomb in his first game back in a Mariners uni. Mitch Garver has hit multiple jacks. ] | Kraken just beat the NHL leading Boston Bruins at home in OT yesterday. They're 5 pts out of the playoffs (think 2.5 GB in baseball terms) with a little over 1/4 of the season left to play. Their 2 top point getters from last year, Jared McCann and Vince Dunn, are shouldering the load again. If they're going to make a playoff push they need their Centers (Wennberg and Beniers, 8 goals each) to start carrying their weight | Huskies Bball the up-and-down season of the Mighty Men in Purple and Gold continues. It's been barely 11 weeks since the Dawgs were 8-3 with a huge win over Gonzaga and only losses to tournament teams. For the 2nd year in a row they've lost Big Frank Kepnang to injury and barring a miracle run in the conference tourney, they won't even garner in invite to the CBI. | Huskies Football the Husky Football team has assembled a coaching staff with over 70 years of NFL playing and coaching experience. That includes HC Fisch, DC Steve Belicheck, OC Brennan Carroll, and assistants Vinnie Sunseri (NFL player and Patriots Asst) and Scottie Graham (NFL player). Pretty cool stuff | Seattle Seahawks The Grubb has landed. I repeat THE GRUBB HAS LANDED. | ROBBY'S HOT TAKE | The Seahawks will not only make the playoffs next year but they will have a top 10 offense and defense by DVOA. Grubb and McDonald. That is all. | LIGHTNING ROUND: | What is a good over/under for seasons Jedd Fisch coaches UW? His contract is for 7 years. | Trivia! Courtesy of Caitlin White: Which quantity is greater: # of Mariners playoff appearances or # of Mariners ruptured testicles? | More trivia! In honor of Black History Month: Who was the first black head coach in Seattle professional sports?

Season 2; Episode 16: Seahawks get a Harbaugh, while UW Huskies get a Carroll and a Belichick

Main Event Hawks have a new coach! Welcome to Seattle Mike McDonald! Former "Michigan" man (Defensive Coordinator for 1 year under Harbaugh at Michigan. Helped lead them to the natty runner up in 2021. Comes from the Ravens where, under his leadership and defensive playcalling, the Ravens ranked 1st in points allowed last year (3rd in his first year as a pro DC) and top 10 in yds allowed both seasons.. He's already hired his Assistant HC: Leslie Frazier, former Bils DC and Super Bowl Shuffler. Seahawks do not have an OC right now. There are rumors swirling around about Ryan Grubb jumping ship from Bama to come back to the Emerald City. The Hawks were also reportedly interested in Giants OC Mike Kafka, but the Giants blocked him from interviewing The Seahawks currently hold the 16th pick in the NFL draft. They have 7 picks (no 2nd round pick and 2 3rd round picks) and some roster holes at important positions. DO YOU PREDICT A STEP BACK YEAR FOR THE HAWKS OR CAN THEY CONTINUE TO COMPETE WITH THE RAMS/CATCH UP WITH THE 9ERS NEXT YEAR?? Current Events UW Men's basketball is on a bit of a slide...lost the Apple Cup at home in dramatic fashion. While the Pac-12 is pretty tightly grouped -- only 4 games separate the 10th place Huskies from 1st place Arizona State -- that's because the conference is strong top to bottom. The Cougs are 16-6 (7-4 in conf) and have already beaten Arizona this year. The dawgs sit at 12-10(4-7) with 8 regular season games left. If the P12 tourney started today, the Dawgs would face UCLA in the first round. Mariners have made some more additions...Jorge Polanco and Gregory Santos
