Iman L. Khan, LMHC, LPC / Co-Host - Kurt Lois

Through real talk, cultural critique, and forward-thinking ideas, we unpack the systems that shape our well-being and imagine bold new ways to heal, connect, and grow. It’s not about fixing what’s broken—it’s about building what we’ve been missing.

Engineering Nature: When Every Solution Creates New Questions

Scientists are releasing laboratory-bred male mosquitoes designed to reduce populations of disease-carrying mosquitoes. Depending on your worldview, you may have just thought: “That’s incredible.”  Or… “Have we learned nothing from science fiction?” 😂. But this episode isn’t really about mosquitoes, it's about what happens inside us when science, technology, and uncertainty collide. How do we evaluate an innovation without ignoring the problem it was created to solve? Why does uncertainty make our brains rush toward certainty? And how do we remain appropriately skeptical without slipping into cynicismor appropriately hopeful without becoming naïve? In this episode of Rebranding Mental Health, Iman and Kurt explore the psychology of uncertainty, risk perception, intellectual humility, trust, scientific progress, and why changing your mind in response to new information isn’t weakness. It may actually be evidence that you’re thinking. Because the future will continue presenting us with questions previous generations never had to answer. Perhaps wisdom isn’t knowing immediately which side you’re on. Perhaps it’s learning how to stay curious long enough to understand the question. #RebrandingMentalHealth #EngineeringNature #CriticalThinking #Curiosity #Science #Psychology #TotalHealth #IntellectualHumility #MentalHealth #Innovation #bloomingminds https://www.bloomingminds.org https://www.instagram.com/imanlkhan/ https://www.facebook.com/bloomingminds.org "Rebranding Mental Health: A Movement, Not a Label."

Showing Up Authentically: What It Actually Means in an AI World

"Just be yourself” sounds beautiful, however, it's also spectacularly vague. Which self? Your professional self? Your unfiltered self? The person you are with your closest friends? The person you’re becoming? And in a world where AI can help write our words, filters can alter our appearance, algorithms can shape our preferences, and almost every part of life can be optimized for an audience, the question gets even more interesting: How do we know when we’re actually being ourselves? In this episode of Rebranding Mental Health, Iman and Kurt explore authenticity not as radical honesty or stubbornly declaring “this is just who I am,” but as congruence, the ongoing work of bringing what we value, what we believe, and how we actually live into greater alignment. They unpack the difference between authenticity and impulsivity, why performing for constant audiences can disconnect us from our own preferences, and how AI can either help us clarify our thinking or quietly replace it. Because perhaps the goal isn’t to become more original, interesting, or perfectly “authentic.” It’s to become more integrated. #RebrandingMentalHealth #Authenticity #ArtificialIntelligence #AI #TotalHealth #SelfAwareness #BloomingMinds #MentalHealth #PersonalGrowth #DigitalWellbeing #HumanFlourishing https://www.bloomingminds.org https://www.instagram.com/imanlkhan/ https://www.facebook.com/bloomingminds.org "Rebranding Mental Health: A Movement, Not a Label."

The Stories We Inherit About Love: Relationship Rules That No Longer Serve Us

What if the relationship rules you learned were never actually yours? Don’t text first. Don’t show too much interest. Don’t be too available. Don’t let them know you care more. Many of us inherit stories about love from our families, culture, media, and past relationships—and eventually those stories can become rules we follow without realizing it. In this episode of Rebranding Mental Health, Iman and Kurt explore why our nervous systems are drawn to familiarity, how early experiences shape our expectations of intimacy, and how cultural messages can influence the way we communicate, pursue connection, protect ourselves, and experience vulnerability. Because sometimes we aren't struggling because we're bad at relationships. We're simply following an old rulebook. We’ll explore the difference between boundaries and relationship games, why familiar discomfort can feel safer than unfamiliar peace, and what it looks like to replace inherited relationship rules with healthier skills. You’ll also be introduced to the R.E.W.R.I.T.E. practice: Recognize the rule. Explore where you learned it. Witness how it protected you. Reconsider whether it is still true. Increase awareness of what happens in your body when you challenge it. Try one healthier behavior. Evaluate what you learn. The goal isn't to become better at playing the game. It's to become a healthier participant in your relationships. Because patterns don't change unless we do. And sometimes emotional health begins when we realize we're allowed to put down the old rulebook and write a new one. https://www.bloomingminds.org https://www.instagram.com/imanlkhan/ https://www.facebook.com/bloomingminds.org "Rebranding Mental Health: A Movement, Not a Label."
