The James MacTaggart Memorial Lecture: Pedro Pina, Vice President of YouTube in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa

For over five decades the MacTaggart Memorial Lecture has set the media agenda, serving as the definitive stage for the industry’s true visionaries. In 2026, we are thrilled to welcome Pedro Pina, Vice President of YouTube for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa to deliver the landmark 51st edition.Pina joins a historic line of leaders who have sparked global debate and institutional change. Leading YouTube at a time of profound industry change, he is uniquely positioned to address a television landscape that has been fundamentally reshaped. Far from facing a decline, the television industry is facing a dynamic new era, says Pina. "While the media landscape offers more choice than ever, traditional broadcasters have a massive opportunity to connect with an energized new generation of viewers."Since 2021, Pina has overseen YouTube’s business, creator, and content ecosystem across EMEA, steering the platform’s relationships with a vast network that spans nascent digital creators, global broadcasters and major Hollywood studios. Who better, then, to articulate a new era in which the TV industry embraces fast-evolving audience behaviours?Looking ahead to his MacTaggart, Pedro says: "Television has always been celebrated by its ability to connect us, and today, we are living in the most diverse and flourishing creative era in human history. Viewers haven’t gone anywhere - they are more engaged than ever, they're simply ready for us to meet them on their own terms. By bridging the unique storytelling of premium broadcasting with the democratic, expansive power of platforms like YouTube, we can unlock an extraordinary new chapter. I look forward to welcoming leaders to Edinburgh to embrace this future with optimism, and to building TV's next golden age, together."
