Two formerly old guys and a formerly middle aged guy

We may be calling it Why I Play. If the Rev. can figure out how to reconnect all of that to Spotify and Podcasts and and and. For now, think of it as the podcast formerly known as Two Old Guys and a Middle Aged Guy Talk About Guitars and Gear and Stuff. But with a special guest. Say hey to Ian Hammer. He has really cool stories. No, really. Like Leonard Bernstein peeing and breakfast with Frank Zappa at 15 years old.

Two Old Guys and a Middle Age Guy Talk About Guitars and Gear and Stuff: Ep 12 Gone but not forgotten

The old dudes and the dude on the cusp of being old talk about the musical heroes who shuffled off this mortal coil in 2025.

    Creativity and Envy and Sacrifice

Two Old Guys and a Middle Age Guy Talk About Guitars and Gear and Stuff/The Reunion Tour 2025, Night 3 Is playing music for a living all it's cracked up to be? Or do civilians assume the glamour and not see the sacrifice? Plus a broken Delphin audio player (third time in 8 months), a broken Mackie interface and Scott has a new picture. Plus, somehow, smoking a brisket and, of course, bagpipes. Oh, and human creativity vs AI and other weird stuff.

Reunion Tour 2025: Night Two—Is It Live Or Is It Memorex?

The Two Old Guys and the Middle-Age Guy who Talk About Guitars and Gear and Stuff weigh in on weighty stuff including: Are online guitar "influencers" are lame? Is playing with tracks lame? Is Gen Z lame? Plus gear stuff (Line 6 Helix Stadium, audio over Cat6) and somehow, and of course, bagpipes.

Two Old Guys and a Middle-Age Guy Talk About Guitars and Gear and Stuff: EP5

We have a fun conversation with Quint Randall, the musical serial entrepreneur behind GIG Magazine, and Drums On Demand, co-author (with the Rev.) of Making Money Making Music: The Musician's Guide To Cover Gigs and songwriter/bass player/singer for Joshua Creek. Plus, he's like a journalism professor and stuff. We even get a little time to talk about his '80s band, The Bings.

EP3: Dude, That Is Totally *Not* Ambrosia

The boys and their social guest, Riley Wilson, listen to some ostensibly new music from acts including Ambrosia, Marshall Tucker, the Outlaws, and the Strawbs. This would be all well and good if the Strawbs did really bad hip hop and Marshall Tucker and the Outlaws had traded in their soaring guitars for farting synths and if Ambrosia wrote songs about... Well, you'll see.

EP2: The Pros and Cons of NAMM With Special Guest Ronny North

Ronny knows a thing or 500 about NAMM having played at like very show for the past 20 years. We talk about why–and if–making the pilgrimage to Anaheim makes sense for the average musician.

Episode 1: The Music That Formed Us

The Two Old Guys (Scott and the Rev.) and the Middle-Age Guy (Tim) compare notes on the music that made them want to, well, you know, play music in the first place.
