Midnight Mass - Episode Recap - Ray Taylor Show

Thanks for offering this. I am a fan of Mike Flanagan, but when I heard Hamish Linklater was going to be it…I was super excited. I really enjoyed that actor in Legion and New Adventures of Old Christine. At first, I thought you were ok with the male characters who killed or harmed female characters while slamming main women characters yet once your favorite characters died, I was amazingly sympathetic! I did think that Erin’s speech at the end was her brain shutting down, not reliving a memory. Her dying psychedelic brain when to the man she loved. I felt Riley seeing the woman he killed was his dying brain making amends. I didn’t see Christianity in either of their deaths or a Heaven. I was hoping a few vampire characters would hide under something…were the buildings the only place they could go…they couldn’t hide under a tree? I also guessed the priest had a daughter with the once old woman. He seemed way too happy with the whole, “the things I can show you” laughing line episodes back…I was thinking they had to have hooked up! I agree with you that the girl saying she couldn’t feel her legs again was shorthand for the angel dying. I like how Flanagan doesn’t spell everything out. Plus, I think it was great he used stories to answer questions all biblical like. The Old Man did this too, which was a running gag in my watch party…to answer a simple question with a long winded story…or wait, not answer it at all! Again, thanks for this. I really do enjoy listening to podcasts but I don’t enjoy listening to people who who make fun of and belittle anybody that doesn’t agree with his views and actually have some sort of belief in God.

All of Director Mike Flanagan’s shows are some of my favorites, so I’m delighted to find a podcast about one of them. Ray’s recap of each episode, and his opinion of it is mostly intelligent and fun. One funny note-Ray regards all Catholic/religious aspects of the show as ludicrous, yet balks at the description of an angel as being bald with bat wings -because having 70s style long hair and 6 foot long feather-wings makes much more sense. 🙄 I really love this series because it’s not a religious show/documentary, but a science fiction show about religion, specifically Catholicism. As well as it should be. 👍🏻 That being said, it gives me food for thought, big time, the next time I plan on going to midnight mass for Easter Vigil, again. 🐣🧛🏻
