Financial Freedom, Real Money and Mindset with Michael Tharp

Real Money and Mindset with Michael Tharp Michael Tharp joins the Discover Montcalm Podcast to discuss real money, silver, mindset, and escaping the financial matrix.  In an era of shifting economic realities, rising inflation, and rapid technological disruption, how do everyday individuals regain control of their financial futures? On a compelling episode of the Discover Montcalm Podcast, host Duane Weed sat down with former Greenville educator turned digital entrepreneur Michael Tharp to discuss the history of currency, the power of mindset, and what it truly means to build wealth slowly. From Carson City to the Classroom Growing up in Carson City, Michigan, and graduating from Oakfield Baptist Academy in Greenville, Michael developed a passion for history, government, and economics. After earning his degree at Cedarville University and his master’s in special education from Grand Valley State University, he spent years as a dedicated educator in Grand Rapids Public Schools and Greenville Public Schools. In addition to teaching, Michael became a familiar face across Montcalm County as “DJ Tharp,” working local school events and community gatherings. However, when the 2020 pandemic disrupted public education, Michael made a pivotal decision to retire from traditional teaching at age 40 and transition fully into online entrepreneurship and financial education. Understanding “Real Money” vs. Currency Michael’s passion centers on educating others about the fundamental difference between government-issued fiat currency and real money—specifically physical silver, gold, and decentralized digital assets like Bitcoin. Reflecting on American economic history—from the Coinage Act of 1873 and the historic 1896 presidential election to Richard Nixon closing the gold window in 1971—Michael explains how unbacked currency printing fuels inflation and erodes purchasing power for working families. His philosophy focuses on consistent, long-term wealth preservation (“stacking silver”) rather than get-rich-quick schemes. Mindset, Gratitude, and “Embracing the Pain” Drawing inspiration from teachers like Neville Goddard and Richard Rohr, Michael emphasizes that personal transformation starts with perspective. Rather than focusing on economic uncertainty or media negativity, he encourages individuals to embrace an entrepreneurial mindset, leverage modern AI tools, and develop deep gratitude. “No matter where you’re at, you can choose to look at the negative or you can choose to focus on the positive. Perspective and gratitude is what changes everything.” — Michael Tharp Connect with Michael Tharp Michael co-hosts The Runners Live, a weekly podcast stream every Tuesday at 10:15 PM EST alongside Ricardo “Mims” Hamilton on Facebook, X, and YouTube. Exploring Trufant Michigan History and Hometown Hero's Project with Victoria and Greg Maguire

Honoring Veterans with the Trufant Area Hometown Heroes Project Victoria and Greg Maguire discuss Trufant history and the Trufant Area Hometown Heroes project on the Discover Montcalm Podcast. Every small town across Montcalm County has a story to tell, but few have a heritage as rich—and spirited—as Trufant, Michigan. On this episode of the Discover Montcalm Podcast, host Duane Weed sat down with local residents Victoria Maguire and her husband Greg Maguire to explore the town’s history and discuss an exciting new community initiative: the Trufant Area Hometown Heroes project. Trufant established in 1871 by Emery Trufant Originally established in 1871 by Emery Trufant, the community grew from a humble post office and sawmill into a bustling lumber hub and agriculture center. From historic landmarks like the VBS Hall to famous local icons like the weekly Thursday Flea Market and the town’s designation as the “Stump Fence Capital of the World,” Trufant has always maintained a tight-knit, proud identity. Trufant Area Hometown Heroes project Inspired by a similar veteran banner initiative in nearby Morley, Army veteran Victoria Maguire and her husband Greg set out to create a lasting tribute for local service members. The Trufant Area Hometown Heroes project honors community members who have served in the United States Armed Forces, spanning all branches and tracing history as far back as the Civil War. With support from local sponsors like CSM Laser Engraving, Business Growth Engine, and La Cocina Mexican Grill, the ongoing project collects photos, military records, and service details to showcase the brave individuals who call the Trufant area home. How to Support or Participate: Community members interested in submitting a veteran’s story or contributing to the material and display costs can reach project coordinator Greg Maguire directly by phone at Call: 989-287-0042 For additional community updates and local event schedules, visit the Trufant Area Chamber of Commerce on Facebook. What it is like to own a McDonald's Franchise - The Michael Rodewald Story

McDonald’s Restaurant Franchise in Montcalm County Discover how Michael Rodewald of MLW Management Inc. built a 11-location McDonald’s franchise network across Montcalm County and West Michigan. The Story of MLW Management: Building a Legacy in Montcalm County When people see the famous Golden Arches of McDonald’s, they often think of a global corporate giant. But on the local level, individual restaurants are driven by local business owners, local crews, and deep roots in the community. On the latest episode of the Discover Montcalm Podcast, host Duane Weed sat down with Michael Rodewald, Owner/Operator of MLW Management, Inc., to discuss his family’s multi-generational history with McDonald’s, expanding across West Michigan, and opening his 11th location in Howard City, MI. From Crew Member to McDonald’s Franchisee: The Rodewald Family Journey A Legacy That Started in 1974 The Rodewald family story with McDonald’s spans over five decades. It began when Michael’s father, Eric Rodewald, moved to Grand Rapids as a 16-year-old looking for a gas station job. When no gas stations were hiring, he walked into a local McDonald’s on the north side of Grand Rapids. Starting as a crew member, Eric spent 23 years learning every position in restaurant operations and management. In 1996, he realized his dream of entrepreneurship by purchasing his first group of McDonald’s franchises in Montcalm County. Operating MLW Management, Inc. Across Montcalm County and West Michigan Michael Rodewald officially became an approved McDonald’s owner-operator on October 1, 2014, taking over his first store in Stanton, MI. McDonald’s maintains rigorous vetting and operational training for franchisees, ensuring that operators prioritize local community relationships alongside operational excellence. Today, Michael leads MLW Management, Inc., overseeing 11 locations across Montcalm, Mecosta, Isabella, and Ionia counties: Big Rapids: 1020 S State St, Big Rapids, MI 49307 Howard City: 750 Shaw St, Howard City, MI 49329 Lakeview: 9150 Howard City Edmore Rd, Lakeview, MI 48850 Edmore: 807 Main St, Edmore, MI 48829 Stanton: 329 E Main St, Stanton, MI 48888 Portland: 1432 E Grand River Ave, Portland, MI 48875 Mount Pleasant (4 Locations): 1804 S Mission St, Mount Pleasant, MI 48858 1963 E Remus Rd, Mount Pleasant, MI 48858 5600 E Pickard St, Mount Pleasant, MI 48858 904 E Pickard St, Mount Pleasant, MI 48858 Shepherd: 550 E Wright Ave, Shepherd, MI 48883 Bringing a New McDonald’s to Howard City Opening a new ground-up location requires extensive demographic and traffic analytics from corporate, combined with local municipal collaboration. Discussions for a Howard City location began years prior with village leadership. On June 25, the brand-new Howard City store officially held its grand opening at 750 Shaw St. From supporting local high school sports programs—like donating soccer equipment to Tri County High School during their grand opening—to giving back to community initiatives, MLW Management focuses on local involvement. “At the end of the day, the ones who are here trying to get it right for you are local business owners doing everything we can to deliver on our promises,” says Rodewald.
