What Parents Should Know About Vitamin K For Newborns

We tackle the vitamin K shot for newborns with a focus on facts, tradeoffs, and the questions parents should ask before they ever get to the hospital. We explain VKDB risk, why the shot is recommended, and how the ingredient list matters as much as the headline debate.  • what vitamin K does in newborn clotting and why babies start with low stores  • what VKDB is, including early, classic, and late presentations  • why late VKDB is the most feared due to intracranial bleeding and limited warning signs  • how rare VKDB is and how parents can weigh rare risk against severe outcomes  • how intramuscular vitamin K works and why it is generally more reliable than oral dosing  • when oral vitamin K protocols come up and what can reduce effectiveness in real life  • what is in the vitamin K injection, including phytonadione, excipients, and preservatives  • how to request preservative-free vitamin K and why asking ahead of delivery matters  • how to think about the leukemia claim and why association is not the same as causation  • what the CDC, AAP, and ACOG recommend and why guidelines still support vitamin K  • the exact questions to ask your OB, pediatrician, or hospital about formulation and risk  Thanks for listening to this edition of Frontline Health by Centurion. What Does "FDA-Approved" Really Mean?

FDA approved doesn’t mean “no surprises,” and it definitely doesn’t mean a medication will be the right fit for your body. We sit down with Troy Duel, founder and CEO of Centurion Health, to unpack what the drug approval pipeline actually looks like and why people can have wildly different outcomes from the exact same prescription. If you’ve ever watched a cheerful drug commercial followed by a long list of side effects and wondered how both can be true, this conversation is for you.  We break down the real steps behind drug testing and FDA approval: preclinical research, phase 1 safety data, phase 2 dosing and early effectiveness, and phase 3 controlled trials with larger groups. Then we zoom in on a detail most people never hear, the math of rare adverse events. A trial with around 1,500 participants can catch common issues, but it can easily miss side effects that only show up in 1 out of 10,000 or 1 out of 100,000 users. That’s why personal research, good clinical guidance, and ongoing monitoring matter even after a product reaches the pharmacy.  We also tackle the pharmaceuticals vs supplements debate with more nuance than the usual internet arguments. Both can speed up, slow down, or block processes in the body, and both can create downstream effects. The difference often comes down to study design, endpoints, and especially manufacturing quality, including third-party testing, contamination screening, and transparent sourcing. Finally, we bring it home to health ownership: using interventions as short-term catalysts while you build nutrition, exercise, muscle, sleep, stress management, and preventive screenings that reduce long-term dependence.  If this helped you think more clearly about medication safety, supplement quality, and personalized medicine, subscribe, share the episode with a friend, and leave a review so more people can learn how to advocate for their own health. We share practical, non-medication strategies that start with food, movement, and routine so parents can support focus, behavior, and emotional regulation at school and at home.  • ADHD definitions, symptom lists, and why diagnosis can be subjective  • Why distraction and lack of structure can look like ADHD  • Diet quality and the link between ultra-processed foods and symptoms  • Food dyes and preservatives to watch for, including sodium benzoate  • Gluten sensitivity, gut health, and the gut-brain axis  • Exercise benefits for attention and executive function  • Supplements discussed, including saffron, phosphatidylcholine, and phosphatidylserine  • Nutrients tied to risk, including methylated B vitamins and vitamin D  • Screen time, sleep disruption, and overstimulation  • Simple routines and organization systems that reduce daily distractions  • Brown noise as a possible focus tool  Thanks for listening to this edition of Frontline Health by Centurion. Health Headline Highlights: What If Your “Healthy” Bread Is The Problem?

Up to half your muscle mass can disappear by age 80, but it is not a life sentence. We connect the dots between strength training, mobility, and independence, and why losing muscle raises your fall risk so much that it can change the entire trajectory of aging. We also dig into what the research actually says about resistance training benefits beyond the mirror: metabolism, insulin sensitivity, bone density, cardiovascular health, mental health, and even sleep. From there, we break down the biggest health headlines of the month with a clear goal: give you practical, low-drama actions. We talk about COVID-19 trends across the United States and why seasonal spikes often follow school start, plus the basics that support immune health year-round. We revisit Alpha Gal syndrome and tick prevention, including why fast tick removal matters and what to do if symptoms show up. Then we tackle the nutrition debate with a major trial that pits keto against the Mediterranean diet and shows why your metabolic state can determine which “healthy diet” works best. We also explore intriguing research on dandelion root extract and cancer, what’s promising, what’s not proven, and why human trials are still the missing step. Coffee and tea get their moment too, with long-term observational data linking moderate caffeine intake to lower dementia risk, along with a reality check on sleep disruption and sugary add-ons. Finally, we unpack alarming testing that found glyphosate in many popular bread brands and what you can do to reduce exposure without trying to live in a bubble. If you care about longevity, metabolic health, and making smarter choices in a messy food and health landscape, hit subscribe, share this with a friend, and leave a review so more people can take ownership of their health. The Truth About Egg Labels

The egg aisle looks simple until you actually stand in it. Conventional, cage-free, free range, organic, pasture-raised, regenerative, omega-3, vegetarian-fed, no antibiotics, no added hormones. It is a wall of labels that feels like it should add up to clarity, but usually just adds cost and confusion. We cut through the noise and tell you what those egg carton claims really mean, so you can buy eggs based on real standards instead of vibes.  We start with one of the biggest myths: “no added hormones.” Hormones in US eggs have been illegal since the 1950s, so that claim is largely a marketing phrase, not a meaningful health upgrade. From there, we walk through conventional eggs and what “vegetarian-fed” often implies, then dig into the hot-button issue of genetically engineered feed and why the research and policy landscape looks so different in the US versus Europe.  Next, we break down cage-free versus free range, including what each label requires and what it does not guarantee about outdoor access. We also explain what makes organic eggs different, especially around non-GMO feed, pesticide exposure, and antibiotic rules. Finally, we get into pasture-raised and corn and soy-free regenerative eggs, why deeper orange yolks can signal a diet higher in omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin E, and how we’d choose the best eggs for your goals and budget, including real price ranges.  If this helped you shop smarter, subscribe for more practical health breakdowns, share the episode with a friend who buys eggs weekly, and leave us a review so more people can find the show. Recurring UTIs Explained

UTIs are miserable, but the worst part for many people is the feeling that they never really end. We’re digging into the real reasons recurrent urinary tract infections happen, why they’re so common for women, and why the usual “take antibiotics and move on” approach can turn into a frustrating cycle that keeps repeating. We walk through what’s going on inside the body when a UTI starts, including why E. coli is the most common culprit and how certain strains use tiny “hooks” to stick to the bladder lining. From there, we connect the dots on the biggest drivers of recurrence: hygiene habits, sexual activity, spermicide or diaphragm use, menopause and estrogen changes, incomplete bladder emptying, urinary tract abnormalities, diabetes, and more. We also talk honestly about the downside of frequent antibiotic use, including microbiome disruption and rising antibiotic resistance. Then we get practical. We break down D-mannose for urinary tract health, why it’s getting attention from urologists and pharmacists, how it may help prevent E. coli from attaching in the first place, and what the research is saying so far. We also cover hydration, urinating after sex, and supplements with some supportive data such as cranberry extract, hibiscus, and dandelion, plus the red-flag symptoms that should send you to a clinician quickly. If this helps you, subscribe to the Frontline Health Podcast, share it with someone who keeps battling UTIs, and leave a review so more people can find evidence-based health education.  Thanks for listening to this edition of Frontline Health by Centurion.
