Episode #11: Understanding Ourselves Through Our Childhood Experiences & The Power of Telling Our Story

Hello and welcome to today's episode! I am beyond honored and grateful to interview Jocelyn Winn, author of the memoir, One of Nine: A Memoir: A Collection of True Stories that Prompted Suicidal Thoughts and Began A Remarkable Journey to Find a Reason to Live. Jocelyn Winn’s Bio:   Jocelyn Winn is an American writer, raised in the San Francisco Bay area. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in English-Creative Writing at California State University Northridge.  Jocelyn was born into a large family and is the sixth of nine children. In January 2022, she published her debut book, One of Nine: A Memoir: A Collection of True Stories that Prompted Suicidal  Thoughts and Began A Remarkable Journey to Find a Reason to Live. The memoir is centered around experiences in her childhood, which led her to seek mental health therapy to treat persistent suicidal ideation. Jocelyn is certain that therapy saved her life. Her mission is to share her story in order to help others who may have or are currently experiencing similar circumstances. She wants to remove the negative stigma surrounding mental health concerns which often causes those who are struggling with these issues to suffer in silence. She believes that caring for our mental health is essential to living a fulfilling life.   When she’s not writing, Jocelyn can be found in deep conversation with her sister Ollie, taking advice from her nephew Jaxon or researching new recipes online. She loves gardening, stand-up comedy, and skin care products. Jocelyn lives in Los Angeles, CA with her elderly Shih Tzu, Denzel, and her houseplants. Episode #8: Cooking and Nurturing Our Body

Today I am honored to welcome Leanne Brown. Leanne is not only an acclaimed cookbook author and an embodied cooking teacher, but our friend in the kitchen. I've been a fan of Leanne's first book, "Good and Cheap" for many years. A master’s thesis gone viral? That’s exactly what happened to Leanne Brown’s final project in food studies at New York University. After it went viral online as a PDF that has by now been downloaded 15 million times, Leanne launched a Kickstarter campaign, which raised an amazing $144,681, making her self-published edition of Good and Cheap the most successful cookbook project ever recorded by Kickstarter. Workman’s expanded second edition of the cookbook is a New York Times bestseller that has sold 320,000 copies and counting. Her second book is Good Enough: A Cookbook, came out January 2022.     Leanne was named one of Forbes’ 30 Under 30, won the prestigious IACP Judge’s Choice Award, and was listed among the Most Innovative Women in Food and Drink by Food & Wine and Fortune magazines, an honor that recognizes visionaries who are working to change how we look at food. She has given talks to packed audiences at universities, food banks, farmers’ markets, and community events in over 40 cities throughout the country, including SXSW. She delivered the keynote address at BlogHer Food 2015, the world’s largest celebration of women content creators across social media and the web. Along the way, she has drawn praise from luminaries including Michael Pollan, Marion Nestle, and Jamie Oliver. The Canadian-born author now lives in New York.  More information about Leanne may be found on her website www.leannebrown.com as well as her Patreon account where she hosts embodied cooking classes : https://www.patreon.com/LeanneBrown/
