iRacing Licence Classes: Perception vs Reality

Comment on the show?..send me a text! Does reaching A Class in iRacing actually mean you're a better, cleaner or more respectful racing driver? When we first start iRacing, it's easy to imagine the licence ladder as a progression in driving ability. Rookie is where the chaos happens, D Class is where we're learning, C and B Class are increasingly experienced, and A Class is where everyone surely knows what they're doing. But is that really what happens? In this episode of The Lone Road iRacing Podcast, Guy Robertson explores the difference between our perception of the iRacing licence system and the reality of racing across Rookie, D, C, B and A Class. We discuss why higher-licence drivers still make mistakes, why divebombs, poor judgement, frustration and road rage don't magically disappear at A Class, and why a lower licence doesn't necessarily mean poor racecraft. The big lesson? Race the driver. Not the badge. We also look at the difference between Safety Rating, licence class, iRating and genuine racecraft, and why none of them individually tells you everything about the person you're racing. This week's iRacing Agony Uncle "I can't stop divebombing!" A listener admits they've taken out several drivers by lunging into gaps and wants to change their racecraft. We explore practical ways to break the habit, including one simple question to ask before attempting an overtake: "If the other car disappeared right now, could I still make the corner?" Plus, during the mid-show break, Guy introduces Project Apex, the new home for The Lone Road Podcast and the beginning of something much bigger. Learn. Adapt. Improve. The iRacing Process: Why I Stopped Chasing Results

Comment on the show?..send me a text! What if the fastest way to improve your iRating… is to stop chasing it? In this episode of The Lone Road iRacing Podcast, Guy Robertson looks back at the process that has taken his Formula iRating from just over 2,000 to more than 4,300, and why that same approach is now beginning to produce significant gains in Sports Cars. And this isn't theory. During one evening racing the Radical at the Nürburgring, three races produced three completely different outcomes: 🏁 P26 → P22 | -44 iRating after contact and an 8-minute repair 🏁 P23 → P10 | +38 iRating 🏁 P19 → P6 | +59 iRating Overall: +53 iRating But the most important thing wasn't the number. The process never changed. This episode explores how a Quality mindset can be applied to iRacing through consistency, repeatability, reproducibility and continuous improvement. We discuss: • Why one bad result doesn't necessarily mean you raced badly  • Process vs outcome  • How small decisions compound over hundreds of races  • Why Guy stopped trying to win every race  • The philosophy behind Bank the Result • How to manage risk without becoming passive • Why reviewing your races matters • Plan, Do, Check, Act applied to sim racing • Why you don't necessarily need paid setups to make major gains • How the same approach is now transferring from Formula to Sports Cars Perhaps the question isn't: “How do I gain iRating?” Perhaps it's: “How do I become the kind of driver who gains iRating over hundreds of races?” 🎙️ The Lone Road iRacing Podcast | Season 4 Episode 49 Subscribe for weekly iRacing discussion, racecraft, mindset, strategy and stories from the sim racing community. iRacing's Price Rise... Fair or Foul?

Comment on the show?..send me a text! Has iRacing finally become too expensive? For the first time in years, iRacing has announced an increase in subscription prices, sparking passionate debate throughout the sim racing community. Is the increase justified? Does iRacing still represent good value compared to other racing simulators and subscription-based games? Or is the cost of entry becoming too much for new drivers? In this week's episode of The Lone Road iRacing Podcast, Guy Robertson takes a balanced look at one of the biggest talking points in sim racing, exploring both sides of the debate without the social media shouting. This week's topics include: 🏁 iRacing's latest subscription price increase 🏁 Price vs Value - are they the same thing? 🏁 Comparing iRacing to Assetto Corsa, ACC, RaceRoom and other simulators 🏁 How does iRacing compare to subscription services like Xbox Game Pass, PlayStation Plus and World of Warcraft? 🏁 Is the hobby becoming too expensive for new drivers? 🏁 What are we actually paying for? PLUS... 🎙️ The iRacing Agony Uncle Listener Steve asks why his GT4 Porsche loses grip towards the end of races. Is he destroying his tyres early? How do the fastest drivers manage tyre wear? And why is tyre management really about driving style rather than simply driving slower? Whether you're a brand-new iRacer or a long-time veteran, there's something in this episode for everyone. 💬 Question of the Week Has the subscription price increase changed your opinion of iRacing? Do you still think it offers good value? Let us know in the comments. 👍 If you enjoyed the episode please Like and Share to help more iRacers discover the podcast.
