Book Thoughts for the Soul

It seems the host records this with zero preparation other than reading the book. As a listener, it isn’t enjoyable to listen to someone doing a lot of ‘hmmm…..let’s see….what else do I want to tell you…….’ while grasping for what to say. Have a discussion plan, at least a loose one. Edit out needless silence and the parts where the host is kind of lost in her commentary. It’s all over the place. You may listen to good book review podcasts and think it sounds like a casual conversation, but a lot of advance preparation goes into those seemingly casual conversations. I absolutely do not want to listen to someone thinking out loud to distill their thoughts. At least figure out your thoughts on the book before you record. That will leave fewer ‘I think…..hmm……XYZ…’ ‘oh wait no, I didn’t think that, I guess I thought…hmmm…’. Finish sentences. ‘The clues are just…..’ isn’t helpful. Use a logical sequence in the discussion rather than jumping all around in the story and topics. So much of this would be helped by taking 10 minutes to prepare a few notes to map out the discussion and keep you on track.
