Part 3: Season of Play, September 27, 2026

Midway Christian Church sermon for September 27, 2026 Rev. Dr. Heather W. McColl, Midway Christian, Church, Midway KY Worship Series: “Season of Play” Part 3: “Masterclass For A Stuck Church” Exodus 16:1-5; Matthew 14:13-21 Play turns stuck-ness into movement and imagination. Play is the lab where the Spirit teaches us new moves. Playing together as a Church trains us to live with wonder and curiosity in the face of mystery. In uncertain times, we don’t tighten control, but we stay open instead. Play strengthens our shared capacity to follow God’s surprising movements together. When the community plays, we remember that faith is not certainty but it’s the joyful courage to move together into what God is doing next. About this series… For true life, play is not a reward after the “real work.” It’s part of God’s design. Play isn't a break from faith; it's a reflection of how joyful God is! Think about it: from God’s wild imagination in Creation, to Jesus' first miracle at a party, the Bible shows us a God who just loves to have a good time. When the Church gets playful, we're mirroring God's creativity and showing the world that joy is stronger than fear. A playful church becomes this living invitation: come on over, join the celebration of God's delight! www.midwaychristian.org TheologyTuesday - https://www.midwaychristian.org/theology-tuesday/ Podcast - https://open.spotify.com/show/02LvThUZCYUETnyShPsr2j Sermon Library - https://www.midwaychristian.org/sermons/

Part 3: Finding God in the Chaos, August 16, 2026

Midway Christian Church sermon for August 16, 2026 Rev. Dr. Heather W. McColl, Midway Christian, Church, Midway KY Part 3: “In the midst of the storm, there is security” Matthew 14:22-33 When we focus on Jesus, logic doesn’t work. I mean, he is walking on WATER!!! There is no explanation but there is something about this man who shows us, who compels us, who demands that we understand he is not going to fit into our nice neat little boxes, who simply says to us, “Be encouraged. It is I. Don’t be afraid.” Our English translation does not do us any favors with this verse. In Greek, it is so much more. This line isn’t just Jesus saying to disciples, “Hey guys. It’s me. No need to worry.” It is really Jesus making an identity statement…because Jesus is saying to disciples, “Be encouraged. I AM. Don’t be afraid.” We recognize the I AM… from God speaking to Moses saying I am who I am, to God speaking with Job saying I am the one who has been since the beginning of time, to all the I am statements in the Gospel of John, the author of Matthew is letting us know we do not need to fear because God is. About the series ...Worship Series: “Finding God in the Chaos: Listening to the Still, Small Voice" In this five-part worship series, we are invited to find God in the chaos, to listen for/to that still, small voice, and to name “what is contrary to God’s purposes rather than letting it persist unchecked so that we can make a way for the wholeness we crave. This invitation to find God in the chaos] brings release to what has been bound; it invites and enables and calls us to move with the freedom for which God made us.” www.midwaychristian.org Theology Tuesday - https://www.midwaychristian.org/theology-tuesday/ Podcast - https://open.spotify.com/show/02LvThUZCYUETnyShPsr2j Sermon Library - https://www.midwaychristian.org/sermons/

Part 2: Finding God in the Chaos, August 9, 2026

Midway Christian Church sermon for August 9, 2026 Rev. Dr. Heather W. McColl, Midway Christian, Church, Midway KY Part 2: “In the midst of the unfamiliar, there is the familiar” Jeremiah 29:1-7, 11-13 Into this chaos of confusion and lack of control, Jeremiah speaks a word from God which tells the people to live, to build, to plant, to seek, to serve. Into this chaos of the unfamiliar, Jeremiah speaks a word from God which calls them to be the people God created and called them to be, because in all things, through all things, God’s grace will always be sufficient, because in all things, through all things, God’s love will always surround us.
