    Santhali and Ho Songs | Sonipriya

    India’s extraordinary musical heritage stretches far beyond Bollywood and Indi-pop. Yet, much of it remains unheard, while thousands of distinctive voices from tribal, rural and suburban India have rarely found their way to the centre stage. During my journalistic travels and visits to these lesser-known cultural spaces, I have always tried to record, preserve and share such voices - with the hope that they will reach wider audiences, earn appreciation and make our musical repertoire more inclusive. More than a decade ago, I came across a young singer, Sonipriya, who was remarkably open, confident and generous in offering her voice and songs for the recording.
