    About Damn Crime - Lasting Memory

    On this week’s episode of About Damn Crime, Rabia and Ellyn open by discussing TikTok and its assumed closing in the US this week. Then, Rabia tells the story of Dennoriss Richardson, a 39-year-old Black man who was found hanging on September 28th, 2024 in Alabama. While police called it a suicide, though the family strongly disagrees and scheduled an independent autopsy. There are still many questions around the circumstances, which Rabia discusses. Then, Ellyn discusses the case that is all over social media recently. Jennifer Sheffield went on TikTok and praised her ex-husband’s handling of their divorce. Later, he killed her and then killed himself. The circumstances of the crime were not mentioned in Jennifer’s obituary, and were not taken into consideration when scheduling memorials at the same time in the same funeral home. Lastly, Ellyn tells us about Erin Strotman, a former NICU nurse accused of intentionally breaking baby's bones in the Henrico Doctors’ Hospital where she worked.

    About Damn Crime - Who Are They Trying to Protect?

    On this week’s episode of About Damn Crime, Rabia and Ellyn dive right into it - there is a lot to cover on this lengthy special episode of ADC. Ellyn starts by discussing Quinton Nixon, a 33-year-old Akron, Ohio resident who recently faced a sentencing hearing in the murder of a 34-year-old woman named Toni Westover. Quinton chose to represent himself, opening up a fascinating conversation about the law and subsequent appeal options and barriers. Then, Rabia discusses a horrifying case that has had very little media coverage. Veronika Rodriguez, an enlisted member of the national guard who was serving in Pennsylvania, reported that she had been raped by an officer at the base. While the male officer faced absolutely no charges, Veronika was charged with a felony for recording the assault without his permission. The final case they cover, Rabia and Ellyn disagree on many factors. This is the case of Luigi Mangione. You won’t want to miss it.

    The Mysterious Death of Anni Dewani with Carl Miller

    Rabia and Ellyn are joined by Carl Miller, a speaker, author, journalist, researcher and podcast host. He has led over 40 projects to research the digital world and, in late 2024, he released the hit podcast Kill List where he made a disturbing discovery: a secret “kill list” targeting hundreds of innocent people on a murder-for-hire website. Carl chose the case of Anni Dewani who was murdered while on her honeymoon in South Africa after the taxi in which she and her husband, Shrien Dewani, were traveling was hijacked. Shrien was ordered to stand trial for allegedly arranging the murder but was eventually acquitted on all charges. The question is: did Shrien get away with murder?     On this week’s episode of About Damn Crime, as we wrap up the year, Rabia and Ellyn update us on many cases that they’ve covered this year. We kick off with Ellyn doing a quick update on the Diddy case, including how Jay-Z recently filed a motion to dismiss the case and deny the Plaintiff’s request to proceed anonymously. Then, Rabia updates us on two separate cases - Sarah Boone and Melody Farris - both of whom were recently sentenced and released statements to the court. Then, Ellyn discusses Hannah Kobayashi who, on November 8th, arrived in LAX from Maui and did not board her connecting flight to New York. There is video footage showing her next move, which they dive into. Then, Rabia discusses Dennis Perry who was arrested in 2003 for the killing of a husband and wife, Harold and Thelma Swain, in their church. The Georgia Innocence Project helped get him exonerated and, finally, there has been an arrest in the case. We end with an update on the Rocky Myers case, which was previously covered by our ADC special guest, Gigi.

    Rabia and Ellyn are joined by Frank Parlato, a publisher who is widely credited for bringing attention to the NXIVM cult through his published article from 2017. Frank brings the Story of OneTaste to Rabia and Ellyn. Through a fascinating discussion, of which Frank has a ton of inside information, they discuss this sexual wellness company that gained fame and followers while there was something sinister going on behind the scenes.

    About Damn Crime - Communal Outrage

    On this week’s episode of About Damn Crime, Rabia and Ellyn debrief over the JonBenet Ramsey documentary on Netflix. Then, they jump right into the case that everyone is talking about this week: the murder of Brian Thompson, the 50-year-old CEO of UnitedHealthcare. A quick disclaimer: this episode was recorded on Monday 12/9 at 12:30pm EST, prior to many new developments in the case. Then, Ellyn updates Rabia on the Diddy case. A woman recently amended her lawsuit against Sean Combs and included that she was assaulted by Jay-Z at the same party. Then, they discuss the NYC police detective, Wilson Frias, who worked for the NYPD for 18 years. In 2023, he was convicted of sexually abusing his 5-year-old neighbor and he was recently found guilty. The brave victim testified in court with the support of a 2-year-old Labrador Retriever, who was a court certified support animal.

    About Damn Crime - Wicked Beyond Belief

    On this week’s episode of About Damn Crime, Rabia and Ellyn have a slight disagreement on their reviews of Wicked. Let’s just say Ellyn feels very passionate about the movie. Once we (sort of) get past that, we launch into the episode. Rabia begins by updating us on Gisele Pelicot’s trial. As the trial goes on, more and more disturbing details come to light about Gisele’s husband and all of the men involved in her assaults. Then, Ellyn tells the horrific story of a baby who was kept in a drawer for over 3 years after birth. We then get a Karen Read update as recently the prosecutors in her case were asking for the cell phone records of her parents – and the judge had a recent ruling on the request. Then, Rabia and Ellyn discuss back and forth Australia’s new social media ban for those under 16-years-old and whether this is a good or bad thing. Finally, we welcome our first Australian guest, Renee Dekker, who tells us about a 95-year-old woman in a nursing home who died after being tased by police – and the fallout.

    The Disappearance of Melanie Ethier with David Ridgen

    Rabia and Ellyn are joined by David Ridgen, an award-winning producer, filmmaker and podcast host. You may recognize his voice from the very popular podcasts The Next Call and Someone Knows Something, the latter of which just released its ninth season. Together they discuss the disappearance of Melanie Ethier, which is a case covered in depth in Ridgen’s podcast The Next Call. In September of 1996 Melanie left a friend's house after watching movies in the sleepy town of New Liskeard in Canada and was never seen again. There was no crime scene, no body, no motive and not a lot of answers. The theories of her disappearance have never stopped after all these years.
