Infinite Jest Book Club

Hi- I haven’t been able to join the Zoom sessions in real time but I’m finding the recordings to be really helpful. I’m on my second trip through the book. I read it 5 years ago and by the time Gately was in the hospital with The Wraith hanging around I was just done. Listening to these discussions has provided me with more insight as well as ideas about certain plot lines and characters I haven’t thought of. Thank you for sharing the recordings!

I just finished and found this 90% through the book. There are times where it’s Jamie yammering but that’s the beauty of the whole experiment. A teacher who has to poke and prod student minds also pokes and prods adult minds that need to pull all the thoughts out of all the heads of persistent readers. Every encyclopedic book like Ulysses, Hamlet, Infinite Jest, Gravity’s Rainbow should all have a book club or re-read with normal folks to guests like The Great Concavity podcast and a few other that starts and fizzled. This podcast continues to endure and even though it’s not the be all end all, DFW also had multiple views on his own work which also evolves and endures. Bravo to those that take time to headache Zoom meetings and interrupt each other awkwardly to help us all enjoy a really expensive time that is a literal joy to read and still experience like it’s still the late 90s for us 40 plus folks who know and those who are coming along struggling because they were both after 2000 whatever.
