S4 | Episode 43: Batman, Birthday Blues & Being a PK: Getting to Know Aio

Who are the people you're listening to? We're trying something different for Episode 43: we're interviewing each other! Over the next few episodes, we'll be reintroducing ourselves for everyone who's new here (hi, welcome!) and for those who've been with us from the start. First in the hot seat: Aio. In this episode, we talk about: - What his name means (Bisaya roots, tied to "maayo," or good) and whether a name feels like pressure or encouragement - Having a birthday on December 20, and the "big sad" that comes when birthday blues meet Christmas blues - The legendary Batman costume, and why he called it "Mamats" - Growing up a batang kalye in Bulacan, studying at Ateneo, and being an only child for 14 years before his sister arrived (yes, there were happy tears) - What it's really like to be a PK (preacher's kid): the perks, the pressure, and whether the "rebellious phase" is a myth - The moment he realized faith couldn't just be his parents' story, and his decision to surrender his life to Jesus for himself - How he fell in love with worship, and how it led to preaching - Having many gifts (music, painting, dancing, instruments, mentoring) and the hard question of which one to nurture - Why his personal music is on hold: "set it aside, but don't bury it" This one's for you if: you grew up in church and are figuring out what your own faith looks like, you're juggling a lot of gifts and interests and don't know what to prioritize, or the "ber months" hit you harder than you expect. You're not alone. 📍 ANNIVERSARY LIVE RECORDING: October 17, 4-7PM, Omnia Studios, Makati We're turning 5! Get your tickets through the link on our socials. S4 | Episode 42: New Age, Old Lies: Crystals, Tarot, & Trusting God Instead ft. Kuya Father Migs

Crystals sa wrist habang nagko-communion. Rosary sa bulsa, evil eye sa kabila. Sound familiar? Kuya Father Migs joins us to break down new age practices — astrology, manifesting, tarot — bakit sila nauuso ngayon, at bakit "wala namang mawawala" might just be the biggest lie of all. Ep. 42 is back with Kuya Father Migs (yes, still here, still with us) for a real talk on something we've all brushed up against — new age practices. Astrology, The Secret, manifesting, tarot, crystals — it's romanticized, it's "harmless," it's everywhere on your FYP right next to your Bible study content creators. So what's actually going on? We get into: - Why new age practices aren't actually new — and why they're so attractive to the human mind (hello, Adam and Eve) - What the Apostles' Creed already answers about all this, starting with just two words: "I believe" - Monism, pantheism, self-divinity, spiritual relativism — the actual core beliefs behind the "vibes" (and why they don't mix with our faith the way we think they do) - "Wala namang mawawala" — is that really true? Or is there something we're missing out on without realizing it - Navigating cultural and family practices (lola's pamahiin, the golden Buddha next to the crucifix) with respect but without compromise - Love vs. empathy — and why sometimes loving someone means saying the uncomfortable thing - A wild testimony about tarot cards, portals, and an exorcist priest (you read that right) Go all in. No plan B. 📅 PS — SAVE THE DATE: Our anniversary live recording is happening October 17, 2026 (Saturday), 4-7PM at Omnia Studios, Society of St. Paul, Makati. ₱450 door charge, snacks included. See you there! Follow us on Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube — comment kung may na-spark sa'yo dito, we want to hear it.

S4 | Episode 41: Kuya Father: Fr. Migs on Choosing the Priesthood Over the Spotlight

He built feasts. He led worship. He almost had a singing career. Tapos naging pari. This week on That Sounds Holy, we sit down with someone very special to us — the one and only Kuya Father, Father Migs — a mentor who walked so we could run. Before the collar, he was a Star City Feast Builder, a theater kid, and a singer with "sobrang ganda ng boses" (his words, and ours too, honestly 😌). We talk about: - His discernment journey — from wanting to be a priest in 4th year high school, to leaving the seminary, to finding his way back through the Jesuits - The moment his spiritual director told him "you will not be a Salesian priest" (and why that was actually a gift) - Choosing the priesthood over a possible career in singing and theater - What "ontological change" means (yes, we made him explain it twice) - Answering YOUR donut questions: why we receive just the bread during Holy Communion, why guilt lingers even after confession, and where humility ends and self-rejection begins Grab your coffee (or donut) and settle in — this one's equal parts funny, real, and deeply holy. Also in this episode: we're announcing That Sounds Holy LIVE — October 17, Saturday, 4–7 PM at Society of St. Paul, Makati! Door charge is ₱450 (snacks included, chill lang). Mark your calendars, donuts! Get your tickets here: https://feast.ph/tshlive Follow Fr. Migs for his Sunday gospel reflections every Monday at The Monday After, at 9 PM on Facebook. 🎧 New episodes every week. S4 | Episode 39: Why Do Bad Things Happen? (And Why We Still Choose Hope)

Why do bad things happen — and if God is real and good, why does He let them? This week on That Sounds Holy, we're continuing last episode's conversation on disappointment and unanswered prayers by tackling the question every Christian eventually gets asked (or asks themselves): if God is good, why does He allow bad things to happen? We talk about what we'd tell a kid asking this question for the first time, why "God allows it because He loves us" isn't a cop-out, and why it's actually okay — even healthy — to rant to God about it. From there, the conversation gets personal: grief over what's happening in the Philippines right now, a roadside accident that changed how we think about selfishness and self-focus, confession booth wisdom about righteous anger, and why loving our own country is something we're still learning to do. It's not a neat, wrapped-up answer. But it's an honest one — and maybe that's the point. _________________________________________________________ In this episode: - The question a kid asked that started it all (and how we'd actually answer it) - Why "bad things happen because people make bad decisions" isn't the whole story - Is it okay to be angry at God? (short answer: yes) - A roadside accident that revealed something about all of us - Confession booth wisdom: imitate good, self-check on bad - Why we're only now learning to love the Philippines the way it deserves - Prayer, protest, and voting — why it's "and," not "or" _________________________________________________________ Got thoughts on this episode? S4 | Episode 38: Kaya Pala: What Unanswered Prayers Are Really Teaching Us

Minsan hindi tayo sinasagot ni Lord — or, yung sagot isn't what we want. Bakit nga ba ang hirap tanggapin pag "hindi pa" or "huwag muna" ang sagot ni Lord? In this episode, we're getting real about unanswered prayers — the ones we've prayed for years, the ones we're scared to even pray for, and the ones we didn't realize were already being answered, just... not the way we asked for it (yung mga "kaya pala" moments na ma-rerealize mo na lang in hindsight). ________________________________________________________ We talk about: - Six years of wrestling with a calling before finally saying 'yes' - A 7-year relationship that ended, and what "kaya pala" looked like on the other side - The default emotions we run to (crying, distracting, controlling, avoiding) when God doesn't answer the way we want - Why "unanswered prayer" might not really exist - The soil, the manure, and the God who uses our mess as fertilizer for the fruit he wants to grow in us This one's vulnerable, honest, and hopefully a reminder that if you're still waiting on something you've prayed for again and again — you are not alone, and it might not be "no." It might just be a "not yet." _________________________________________________________ Got a prayer that hasn't been answered yet? Drop it (as much or as little as you're comfortable sharing) in the comments — let's remind each other we're not alone in the waiting. _________________________________________________________ 🔔 Subscribe for new episodes every week! 🎧 Also available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and wherever you listen. #ThatSoundsHoly #UnansweredPrayers #ChristianPodcast #FaithAndLife #WorshipLeaders #PinoyPodcast

S4 | Episode 37: God Will Send the Signs (Even If You Text the Wrong Number) ft. Tin

Ever felt lost about which direction to take — and then, out of nowhere, the right person, the right nudge, or the right "coincidence" showed up to point you back on track? That's basically Tin's whole story. This episode, we sit down with Tin — bassist, worship MD, and photographer — and trace the very specific, very real ways God kept sending her resources at exactly the moments she needed direction. A health scare that stopped her in her tracks. A friend who wouldn't stop bugging her to audition. A wrong number that almost made her miss her shot — until someone dug through old slides just to get her the right one. A camera she didn't own, lent to her by a friend, that quietly became the start of a whole new gift. None of it was random. She just had to say yes each time it showed up. We talk about what it looks like to actually follow those signs even when you're scared, unqualified, or convinced it's "too late" — and why paying attention to the people and resources around you might be one of the clearest ways to hear God's direction. _______________________________________________ In this episode: - The health scare that stopped Tin's music career — and led her back to church - The wrong number, the LED sign, and the friend who wouldn't give up on her - Her audition day (and how she didn't play a single song right — and still got in) - How two borrowed cameras turned into a rediscovered gift for photography - Trusting the people who believe in you before you believe in yourself - Why every resource that comes your way might be God pointing you somewhere _________________________________________________ Connect with us: 📸 Support Tin's photography — book her for your next shoot (IG handle in the episode!) 🎙️ Follow That Sounds Holy on IG ⭐ Rate us 5 stars and join our broadcast channel 🎧 Listen on Spotify | 📺 Watch on YouTube

S4 | Episode 36: Secular Songs, Sacred Moments

Donuts, honesty, and a whole lot of unexpected worship moments — welcome back to That Sounds Holy! 🍩 This episode was inspired by a question from our IG community: "What are secular songs that could be interpreted as worship?" So we opened up about the songs, shows, and even sports drills God has used to speak to us lately — and it got surprisingly deep for a "light" episode. We talk through Coldplay's Fix You, Sara Bareilles' Home and Satellite Call, Linkin Park's Somewhere I Belong, and Olivia Rodrigo's "Begged" (yes, really) — plus we clear up the difference between CCM (Contemporary Christian Music) and actual worship music, since not all Christian songs are meant for a worship set. We also shout out some underrated artists worth adding to your playlist — from Rivers and Robots to hip-hop worship artists like Aaron Cole and KB — and talk about why it matters when creatives and public figures speak openly about their faith, whether that's a UAAP MVP or a mainstream pop star. _______________________________________ In this episode: - Secular songs that hit different (in a God way) - Why "worship music" ≠ "Christian music" - Underrated CCM + worship artist recs - Why we don't gatekeep Jesus ________________________________________ What secular song has God used to speak to you? Drop it in the comments or send it to our broadcast channel. _________________________________________ 🔔 Subscribe for new episodes and follow @thatsoundsholy on IG & Facebook.
