  1. Episode #121 Capable of Anything

    6D AGO

    Episode #121 Capable of Anything

What if you were capable of anything you set your mind to? What if this has always been true? What if it were true now? How would you approach that piece of work you've been avoiding differently? How would you show up in that upcoming meeting differently? How would you be different? In todays episode of Legal Imposters we're talking about your Infinite Capability. That is, you being capable of anything you set your mind to. "I am capable of anything I set my mind to" is a belief I hold deep in my core about who I am and what is possible for me. This belief not only helps me overcome challenges, it has me setting bold ambitious goals and blowing my own mind about what is possible for me. It can do the same for you. It hasn't always been this way. I used to have a capability ceiling - a belief (I was certain!) that somewhere just above my head was a limit to what I could do and I needed to be very careful not to hit it. The effects of this self-limiting thinking were exhausting: a constant fear of being found out (a classic sign of imposter syndrome) and going to extreme lengths - excessively checking my work, spinning in indecision, avoiding opportunities unless I was 100% ready (all secret signs of Imposter Syndrome) to ensure I never was. But the minute I was willing to investigate this ceiling, everything changed. I realised that I had been capable all along. Not just a little bit capable. Capable of anything I have set my mind to. That's when everything changed. Not only did I discover more and more evidence that this was true. I started showing up to my goals, my failures and my work as if it were true. The result - the evidence of its truth gets stronger and stronger. My belief grows deeper and deeper. The same will happen for you. In this episode: Why believing you are infinitely capable is so important (and what happens when you don't)What the Capability Ceiling is and how it's keeping you stuckWhat it takes to develop this level of belief in yourselfThe resistance to expect (from your own brain!) when you go to do this work, and how to get past itThe best place to do this transformative work and my recommended place to start P.S. On 1st May I'm opening the doors to the new Be The First Membership, where lawyers of colour come together to overcome Imposter Syndrome, claim their space and lead with authenticity. 2. Episode #120 Choosing Version 2

    FEB 4

    Episode #120 Choosing Version 2

The next time you have an experience that leaves you feeling disempowered or victimised, look for version 2. In episode 120 of Legal Imposters I explain why and I show you how. There's always a version of your experience that leaves you feeling powerless and frustrated (version 1). And for every version 1, there's always a version 2 - one that will take you out of victimhood and leave you feeling empowered and motivated to keep progressing to your goal. I've coached on this ALOT inside Be The First this week. One client experience left them feeling traumatised and undervalued; another client was left feeling invisible and disrespected. In both cases I challenged their stories of what happened and helped them to see how the version of events that left them hurt and disillusioned (version 1) was just that: one version, one interpretation. I showed them that there was a second, equally valid version (version 2) of that same event that would leave them feeling motivated and empowered. And then I invited them to choose - How do you want to feel? And if you felt like that, what would you do? And if you were to do that, what outcome could you expect? Exploring version 2 isn't about making you wrong or distorting the facts. In fact, it's often about revisiting the facts - only this time, stripping away the emotion that so easily distorts them and bends them into our worst fears. Fears that leave us diminished, defensive and small. Fears we have the power to choose not to feel at all. To learn more about the transformative power of version 2 look no further than the philosophy, mindset and call to action I teach that is be the first. "I'm the only one" is version 1. "I'm the first" is version 2. Same circumstances. 2 versions - each leading to completely different sets of feelings, actions and outcomes. This one packs a punch. Be sure to tune in. P.S. Finding version 2 of your experience of being a black lawyer is a skill I teach you inside Be The First and the earlier in your career you start learning, and the longer you continue to reinforce it, the better. On 1st May 2026 I'm opening the doors to the Be The First Membership - a monthly pay as you go membership programme giving you online access to a library of resources and coaching support to connect, support and empower you to thrive as a black lawyer. There are invisible forces behind all you do. And in this video I'm going to tell you exactly what they are. Welcome my friends, to Emotions. Specifically, the emotions you need to feel if you want to progress to the next level. This is part 4 of a 5-part series on What It Takes to succeed as a black lawyer, so if you haven't done so already, be sure to watch parts 1-3 in previous videos. But when we ignore our emotions we miss out on a powerful part of our nature as humans which not only helps explain why we're not where we want to be, but can also be used to help us get here we want to go. It's the emotions that will help you get to where you want to go that are the focus of these episode. In it you'll learn about the 5 emotions you need to feel in order to progress as a black lawyer. These are: desirecouragediscomfortconfidence (in who you are)empowerment Each of these motions has a powerful role to play in motivating you to achieve your goal, supporting you to navigate the black experience and activating you to do what it takes to succeed.
