Episode 43 - Best of: The Gainesville Ripper

Gainesville FL, Aug 1990. 5 college students are murdered over the course of 3 days as the fall semester begins at the University of FL, Investigators would have a suspected and would be on the hunt for him, but does the evidence point to him? The way these students are murdered is almost like it's straight out of a horror movie; but it's not even close to a movie. This is UCF college in the beginning of the fall semester and police are a step behind until they catch a break. Ever watch a horror movie, or even a TV show and have the thought of whether or not it was based off of or inspired by a true crime story? It has happened more times than you may think. This tale of true crime had the same effect on someone as it inspired them to write a screen play for a horror movie, which we’ll get into at the end of the case. This is the debut episode for the Campfire Crime Chronicles, a true crime podcast, welcome to the initial lighting of the campfire, where we discuss the dark world of true crime.  Thank you for joining me around the campfire for this dark and dreary Halloween; for the case, of, the Gainesville ripper.  Thank you to our sponsor BetterHelp who sponsors the Campfire Crime Chronicles. Episode 39 - Who killed the Snowbirds?

Everyone knows Fl to be the retirement state because everyone moves down to the sunshine state for the warmer climate and the shorelines and the retirement spots. There’s another type of people though that travel to the sunshine state; an no it’s not tourists. They’re just kind of always here year round although we do have typical 2 month break after new years and before spring break at the end of March that tourists slow down.  The kind of people I’m talking about though are Snowbirds. Snowbirds live somewhere else in the country, typically in the northerner states that get cold and usually typically see snow in the winter, and they travel to Florida for the winter. Depending on the snowbirds, most of them are retired, and all their kids are grown and grandkids are older, will determine when they come down. Some I’ve seen in the beginning and middle of November, some more travel down between Turkey Day and Xmas. Then after Xmas, by new years definitely is when the rest of them make their way down and they stay until about March or April and then Begin heading back north.  Welcome back to the campfire, grab your s’mores, and grab a seat around the fire. Thanks for joining me tonight at the campfire, where we discuss the dark world of true crime. This is the Campfire Crime Chronicles, a true crime podcast, and this, is the case, of the Snowbird Murders.
