    336 | Want a More "Expensive-Looking" Wardrobe? Start Here

When I see yet another article or YouTube video promising to teach me how to "look expensive," I can't help but roll my eyes just a little. Not because I think looking high-end is a bad goal. I actually think that's what a lot of us are after! It's just that the advice all sounds the same:   Wear monochromatic outfits. Buy a crisp, white button-down shirt. Carry a structured handbag. Stick to classic neutrals.   These suggestions aren't necessarily wrong, but they're not teaching you what you actually need to know.    So today, I want to unpack what really creates that polished, pulled-together impression, even as the trends come and go, and where I'd encourage you to start if you want a wardrobe that looks more elevated and expensive.   Because after almost twenty years of helping women build wardrobes, and watching some women spend more money in one shopping trip than I've spent in the last decade combined, I don't think we're responding to price tags nearly as much as we think we are.   FREE 5-MIN PERSONAL STYLE QUIZ: https://herstylellc.com/quiz HER STYLE ON INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/heatherriggsstyle/ JOIN THE WAITLIST FOR HER STYLE COLLECTIVE: https://herstylellc.com/collective   Related Episodes: 311 – You Don't Need a Better Wardrobe — You Need a Better Way to Make Decisions 165 – Where to Shop and When to Invest In Higher Quality Pieces 72 – Create Better Outfits Using These 3 Design Principles

5 Questions to Ask Before Shopping the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale

Do you want to hear a little secret? It's not so much of a "secret" as it is a very surprising fact about me. Despite my undying affinity for Nordstrom, I have never actually shopped during their annual Anniversary sale. Crazy, right? Please don't take my Nordy club card away from me!   But my clients were equally shocked to learn a few weeks ago that I'm not over setting alarms, building wish lists, and refreshing my browser the second the sale opens. I'm just over here buying what I need when I need it throughout the year.   Now, this week, I might browse. But if I do, I'm using the exact strategy I'm sharing with you today, because I have absolutely no interest in a giant cardboard box showing up on my doorstep delivering a whole lot of wardrobe regret. And I don't think you want that either.   So because the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale has been buzzing around in our Her Style Collective chats over the past several weeks, you might also be wondering what you should buy, how to identify gaps in your wardrobe, and whether it's worth shopping this year…    I think the question you really want to know isn't "What's on sale?" It's "How can I be a smarter sale shopper?"   Whether you're getting ready to hunt the Nordstrom Sale, the clearance rack at Target, or your favorite thrift store, today's episode is for you. I'm going to map out some important questions to consider before you scoop up that irresistible sale item only to regret it every time you see it hanging in your closet with the tags still on.   FREE 5-MIN PERSONAL STYLE QUIZ: https://herstylellc.com/quiz HER STYLE ON INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/heatherriggsstyle/ JOIN THE WAITLIST FOR HER STYLE COLLECTIVE: https://herstylellc.com/collective   Related Episodes: 319 – How to Tell If Something Will Actually Work In Your Wardrobe (Before You Buy It) 294 – Black Friday Trap or Smart Buy? The Vacation Packing Mistake Almost Everyone Makes

Recently, one of our Her Style Collective members was planning for a special birthday getaway. She had already mapped out a stunning travel capsule and our plan was to review it together during a 1:1 session, just to make sure she hadn't forgotten anything, that all of the pieces she chose worked well together, and to pinpoint any unnecessary duplicates, like too many tanks or an excessive number of shoes.    But the first question I asked her on the call changed everything.    It wasn't "what's on your itinerary for the weekend?" or "how does the weather look?" Although those details are important to think about, too. This question was something that almost everyone forgets to consider when they're packing.   So before you start laying out your clothes and overstuffing your suitcase in preparation for your next trip, I want to help you avoid the #1 packing mistake almost everyone makes. Keep listening and we'll make sure your next getaway is truly your best one yet!   FREE 5-MIN PERSONAL STYLE QUIZ: https://herstylellc.com/quiz HER STYLE ON INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/heatherriggsstyle/ JOIN THE WAITLIST FOR HER STYLE COLLECTIVE: https://herstylellc.com/collective JOIN MY FREE VIP EMAIL COMMUNITY: https://herstylellc.com/vip   Related Episodes: 214 – I Packed for My Vacation In 30-Minutes (With Zero Planning) and Here's How It Went 161 – Best Packing Practices for Worry-Free Travel 37 – How to Plan and Pack Your Next Travel Wardrobe

Help! Everything In Stores Looks Like It's For Someone Else

Have you ever walked through a store and thought, "Wait. Who is this actually for?" It can feel like everything is made for someone else. Someone taller. Younger. Trendier. Maybe someone with a completely different body type or lifestyle than yours.   After a while, it's easy to start believing that fashion just isn't for you anymore, or that you'll have to settle for clothes you don't really love.   But before you give up on shopping altogether, I want to offer a different perspective. Because in today's episode, we're talking about why this happens, why shopping can start to feel so discouraging, and what to do when it feels like nothing in stores reflects your style. The goal is to help you build a wardrobe you actually love without lowering your standards or settling.   So don't give up, friend! We're about to make shopping way easier and more empowering than ever.   FREE 5-MIN PERSONAL STYLE QUIZ: https://herstylellc.com/quiz HER STYLE ON INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/heatherriggsstyle/ JOIN THE WAITLIST FOR HER STYLE COLLECTIVE: https://herstylellc.com/collective   Related Episodes: 297 – The Women's Clothing Stores I'm Loving Right Now (and How to Find Your New Favorite Brands) 118 – Struggling with Negative Self-Talk? 9 Signs It's Time to Replace Something In Your Closet

Hey, friend! Before we dive into today's episode, I want you to picture something.   Imagine that you're standing in your closet, holding a piece you've owned for years. Maybe it's a cardigan. Or a pair of jeans. It could be that black top you've worn a hundred times. And you're having the same conversation with yourself you've had at least ten times before.   "This is fine. It still works." But then another thought creeps in. "Could I do better?" And suddenly you're stuck.   Because on one hand, we're constantly hearing messages about buying less, being more intentional, making the most of what we already own, and avoiding unnecessary purchases. On the other hand, I never want you to settle. The point is to build a wardrobe you love, right?   So where's the line? How do you know when it's time to keep remixing what you already have versus when it's time to upgrade or update something? That's exactly what we're talking about today.   By the end of this episode, you'll have nine clear signs that it's time to stop trying to make something work and start looking for a replacement piece that serves you better.   FREE 5-MIN PERSONAL STYLE QUIZ: https://herstylellc.com/quiz HER STYLE ON INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/heatherriggsstyle/ JOIN THE WAITLIST FOR HER STYLE COLLECTIVE: https://herstylellc.com/collective DOWNLOAD THE FREE CLOSET AUDIT FLOWCHART: https://herstylellc.com/closet-audit   Related Episodes: 322 – Your Style Is Changing — Here's How to Update Your Wardrobe Without Starting Over 308 – The Most Overlooked Skill in Style? Why "It Fits" Doesn't Always Mean It's Flattering

Have you ever tried something on and bought it just because it fit? Maybe part of you knew the color wasn't quite right or it wasn't the exact thing you were hoping to find. But you couldn't bring yourself to keep up the search? Or you genuinely didn't have time to keep looking?   Often, those are the pieces that end up sitting in your closet for months because even though it technically fit your figure, it didn't fit your life, your style, or the way you wanted to feel.    If you've ever struggled with that, then today's episode is for you.    We're going to talk about why fit is only one piece of the style puzzle, the seven things that matter just as much as fit when you're evaluating clothes, why so many women settle for "good enough" pieces, and how to know whether something is truly worth bringing home.   Because if your goal is to build a wardrobe you genuinely love, then you cannot let fit alone be the final say. You can do so much better than that, my friend. And in this episode, we're raising the bar and equipping you to stop settling and start making smarter buying decisions. So go refill your mug and settle in. I can't wait for you to hear this one.   FREE 5-MIN PERSONAL STYLE QUIZ: https://herstylellc.com/quiz HER STYLE ON INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/heatherriggsstyle/ JOIN THE WAITLIST FOR HER STYLE COLLECTIVE: https://herstylellc.com/collective   Related Episodes: 286 – Shopping for Your Real Life (Not the Fantasy One in Your Head) 129 – Which Style Foundation Is the MOST Important?
