Ep. 22 - Reclaiming Your Nervous System

Please note: This episode was originally published in July 2023. I switched podcast hosting platforms and had to re-upload past episodes, so some links, resources, or offers mentioned in this episode may no longer be active or available. Some people just have a highly sensitive nervous system, and it doesn’t help that our world is designed to constantly pull us into a sympathetic (fight-or-flight) state. In today’s episode, I asked my amazing colleague, Dr. Kayla Clarke, to shed light on how we can align our bodies and minds with the demands of this fast-paced world, even when anxiety tries to throw us off track. Kayla shares her personal journey of navigating anxiety, starting from a young age when she was diagnosed with OCD, panic disorder, and agoraphobia. She opens up about the process of deconditioning from the labels placed on her and discovering her own truth beyond those diagnoses. As an empath and highly sensitive person, Kayla has learned to feel things deeply and embrace the energy that moves through her body. She challenges the notion that anxiety is something to be fixed or controlled, but rather an energy that can be acknowledged and allowed to flow through us. Which I love - obviously!!! It’s time to embrace all of who we are, honour our sensitivity, and find that sweet spot of resilience in the face of anxiety. Ep. 20 - Balancing Motherhood & Prioritizing Your Health

Please note: This episode was originally published in June 2023. I switched podcast hosting platforms and had to re-upload past episodes, so some links, resources, or offers mentioned in this episode may no longer be active or available. In today’s episode, we welcome back the amazing April Mather (her other episode is here) to share a treasure trove of tips, tools, and advice to help moms navigate the delicate balance between nurturing their family and caring for themselves. April, a relationship and manifestation coach and single mom, shares her own journey of realizing the importance of putting herself first. Looking back, April is amazed by how much motherhood changed the way she cared about herself. She was a nutritionist and yoga teacher prior to giving birth. Yet, the second her daughter was born, she convinced herself that she no longer had time to prioritize herself. Tune into today’s episode to discover how neglecting her own needs led to her feeling anxious, overwhelmed, and eventually she landed in burnout, ultimately “forcing” her to embrace prioritizing her own health in order to be the best parent and individual she could be. In this week’s episode, I am joined by another amazing client - Jess Haney! Our paths crossed when we did a services exchange in 2021, and Jess took part in the Breaking Up With Anxiety® Coaching Program. Ep. 17 - Why Does Medication Make Me Feel Worse?

Please note: This episode was originally published in May 2023. I switched podcast hosting platforms and had to re-upload past episodes, so some links, resources, or offers mentioned in this episode may no longer be active or available. This is another Ask Me Anything episode where I answer questions from you - my amazing community! This week’s episode was inspired by this question: “ I’ve been struggling for a while. Tried antidepressants, which seem to make me feel worse. Why? I’m not sure what to do anymore and would love to hear your thoughts.” I get so many questions like this, so today we are going to do a deep dive into the world of SSRIs, SNRIs, and benzos. This episode explores the most common side effects, the reasons why these medications may make some people feel worse, and the secret to successfully breaking up with your meds with minimal (or no) withdrawal symptoms when, and if, you decide it’s time. This episode covers what your doctor isn’t telling you about the medication you’re taking, steps for a smoother transition off SSRIs and SNRIs, the connection between medication, gut health, and nutrient absorption, my top natural and holistic solutions for targeting anxiety’s root causes, and answering the question “can you really tackle anxiety and panic without medication?” Please note it’s important to always consult with your prescribing healthcare provider regarding any decisions or changes to your medication use. Ep. 16 - Use the Power of AWE to Reduce Anxiety

Please note: This episode was originally published in May 2023. I switched podcast hosting platforms and had to re-upload past episodes, so some links, resources, or offers mentioned in this episode may no longer be active or available. Does your anxiety make mindfulness and meditation feel impossible?! I get it! I actually didn’t have a consistent meditation practice as I do now until I had eliminated my generalized anxiety disorder and panic disorder. Only then was I able to really get into meditation. The benefits of mindfulness and meditation are well-documented; no one can argue with that, but they're not accessible to everyone. Many busy parents and busy professionals struggle to find the time for a daily 20-minute meditation, and for those with anxiety and intrusive thoughts, even the thought of meditating is painful or just impossible. What if I told you there was a clinically proven alternative that will take you way less time?! Less than 1 minute a day, to be exact!! On today’s episode, I’m thrilled to introduce you to Dr. Michael Amster, who, along with his co-author Jake Eagle, wrote the book THE POWER OF AWE: Overcome Burnout & Anxiety, Ease Chronic Pain, Find Clarity & Purpose—In Less Than 1 Minute Per Day! What Michael and Jake have done is create this “microdose” version of a mindfulness practice which is truly accessible to everyone and will help you reduce your stress, anxiety, inflammation, and so much more! Ep. 15 - The Real Root Causes of Anxiety [Pt.2]

Please note: This episode was originally published in May 2023. I switched podcast hosting platforms and had to re-upload past episodes, so some links, resources, or offers mentioned in this episode may no longer be active or available. Welcome to Part 2 of the Real Root Causes of Anxiety series! You can find Part 1 here. If you have listened to Part 1, today I will introduce you to how your daily lifestyle choices are influencing and creating the symptom of chronic anxiety. Here’s the thing... You have to take radical responsibility for your health; it's an investment. But that doesn’t always mean you have to spend money on your health. We have three currencies: time, energy and money. If you have chronic anxiety, your physical body is imbalanced. Your gut health, your hormonal health, your nervous system health, etc. are out of balance. You have to bring that back into balance. No one else can do that for you. People can guide you, support you and help you figure out what’s going on, but no one can do the work to resolve it for you. It may feel like anxiety has hijacked your body and you have no control, and trust me, I GET IT. I used to feel that way, but it’s simply not true. You have way more control than you think, and many of the reasons you are feeling this way stem from lifestyle choices. So tune into this episode to learn how to transform your mental health with 8 simple lifestyle choices that will cost you ZERO dollars!
