This podcast explores our earliest beginning —known as Early Primal Experience, - from preconception, the womb, through birth and early childhood This is a space for anyone who’s ever felt that something early — before words, before memory — shaped how safe, connected, or worthy they feel today. We explore how our earliest beginnings, from the womb through birth and early attachment, leave imprints that still live in the body… and how understanding them can change everything. You are invited into a mystical realm of remembering how you were shaped, and to allow your authentic self to emerge.

Before We Had Words: What Does a Baby Remember? What if the story of your life began long before you could tell it?

What if the story of your life began long before you could tell it? A newborn can't say, “I was frightened.”They can't say, “I felt safe when someone held me.”They can't tell us what it was like to leave the womb and enter the world. But does the absence of language mean the absence of experience? In this episode of the Cosmic Birth Podcast, we explore prenatal awareness and birth memory. David Chamberlain's work challenged conventional ideas about what babies are capable of experiencing and remembering. His research and collection of birth-memory accounts included children who described sensations and events surrounding their own births. We also explore the work of Thomas Verny and the development of prenatal and perinatal psychology, along with what developmental science tells us about the remarkable sensory and learning capacities of babies before and around birth. An incredible story is shared of a grown man who still recalls his own birth experience. Then we take a step further. What if our earliest experiences aren't remembered as stories? What if they become orientations toward life? Before we have words, might we already be learning: Is the world safe? Will someone come when I need them?Am I welcome? Can I trust?Do I belong? Is it safe to have needs? Can I reach for someone? And then we enter even more mysterious territory: the reports collected by Elizabeth and Neil Carman in Cosmic Cradle, including accounts from adults and children who describe experiences of consciousness before birth, choosing parents, previewing a life, and entering the womb. The Carmans describe more than 100 such stories and cross-cultural accounts from 108 cultures and traditions. Perhaps the most interesting question isn't simply: “Does a baby remember?” Perhaps it's: “What is the baby experiencing?” And perhaps an even deeper question is waiting underneath: What if the beginning of our story is not the beginning of our consciousness? In this episode, we explore the space between science, developmental psychology, birth experience, memory, consciousness and mystery. Because maybe your earliest story didn't begin when you learned to speak. Maybe it began before you had words. Prenatal awareness and early sensory developmentDavid Chamberlain and reported birth memoriesThomas Verny and prenatal psychologyThe difference between autobiographical memory and early learningBirth as a profound transition for the developing babyHow early experiences might become patterns or orientations rather than conscious memoriesThe primal questions that may exist before languageReports of pre-birth consciousness and soul memoryCosmic Cradle by Elizabeth and Neil CarmanThe question of whether consciousness can exist independently of the brainWhat we know, what people report, and what remains a mysteryWhy healing doesn't necessarily require recovering a literal memoryAnd ultimately: What does your life seem to remember even if you don't? When the Past Is Still Happening: The Two Circles of Trauma

Have you ever had a reaction that seemed much bigger than the moment? Someone becomes quiet and suddenly you feel anxious. Someone is disappointed in you and you feel as though you've done something terribly wrong. Someone pulls away and your whole body begins preparing for abandonment, even though you know, logically, that you're safe. Why does this happen? In this episode of the Cosmic Birth Podcast, Julia Sahalie explores two ways of understanding what may be happening when we become triggered: the unfinished response and the anticipated threat. Drawing from Peter Levine's work with trauma and unfinished defensive responses, along with the emerging understanding of predictive processing, Julia explores a fascinating possibility: sometimes the body may be responding to something that was never fully resolved, while at other times it may be anticipating something it learned to expect from the past. And sometimes, these two processes may overlap. We explore: • What happens when a defensive response can't be completed• How the nervous system learns to anticipate what might happen next• Why a present-day situation can evoke such a powerful response• The difference between what is actually happening and what our system expects will happen• How early relational experiences can shape patterns of protection and adaptation• Why some behaviors we think of as "personality" may have once been intelligent survival strategies• The connection between unfinished responses, anticipation, and adaptation• How these patterns may begin before we have words to describe them• What happens when we become curious about our body's responses rather than judging them• Four questions you can ask yourself the next time something triggers you Most importantly, this episode isn't about finding something wrong with yourself or digging endlessly for a traumatic memory. It's about becoming curious. What is happening right now? What is my body doing? What does it expect will happen next? And is there something in me that is still trying to do, say, protect, or complete something? Because sometimes the body isn't telling you exactly what happened. Sometimes it's telling you what it learned. The Cosmic Birth Podcast explores the psychological, spiritual, and mystical dimensions of our earliest experiences—from before conception, through the womb and birth, and into early childhood—and how these beginnings may shape the people we are becoming today. When Something in You Reacts Why Does My Body Know Something My Mind Doesn't?

When Something in You Reacts: Why Does My Body Know Something My Mind Doesn't? Have you ever had a reaction that seemed bigger than the moment? You know you're safe, but your body doesn't seem to know it. Someone gets quiet, and you feel anxious. Someone is disappointed in you, and suddenly you feel like you've done something terribly wrong. Someone pulls away, and your body begins preparing for abandonment, even though your mind knows this person loves you. You may find yourself wondering: Why am I reacting this way? What is wrong with me? What am I not remembering? In this episode, we explore the fascinating relationship between memory, the body, the nervous system, and our earliest experiences. We often hear the phrase, "The body remembers what the mind forgets." But what if the truth is a little more nuanced? What if the body isn't storing a hidden recording of the past? What if it is expressing what our experiences have taught us to expect? Perhaps our bodies don't simply remember the past. Perhaps they predict the future based on what they've learned from the past. We explore implicit memory, somatic patterns, breath, posture, sensation, emotion, and the ways experiences can become embodied even when we have no conscious story about them. We consider the possibility that some of the things we call personality: people-pleasing, perfectionism, hypervigilance, caretaking, or even difficulty receiving love, may have once been intelligent adaptations. And if our bodies learned through experience, what might they need to experience now in order to learn something new? This episode invites you to move away from the question, "What's wrong with me?" and toward curiosity: What did my system learn to expect? What is my body trying to protect me from? And what might I need to experience now to feel something different? Perhaps healing isn't always about finding the missing memory. Perhaps sometimes, healing is about creating a new experience. Join me as we explore the living past within us and the possibility that our bodies are not broken, but communicating a story that is ready to be understood. The Cosmic Birth Podcast explores the psychological, spiritual, and mystical dimensions of our earliest experiences—from before conception, through the womb and birth, and into early childhood—and how these beginnings may shape the people we are becoming today. Pre-Birth Memories: What does the baby remember?

What Does the Baby Remember? What if your story began before your first conscious memory? We often think of memory as something that begins when we are old enough to talk, to remember people, places, and events. But what if memory is more than what we can consciously recall? What if our earliest experiences are held in the body, the nervous system, our emotional patterns or even in some deeper layer of consciousness? In this episode of the Cosmic Birth Podcast, Julia explores one of the most fascinating questions in prenatal and perinatal psychology: If babies are conscious before birth, what might they be experiencing? We'll explore the pioneering work of David Chamberlain and Thomas Verny, along with ideas from prenatal psychology, birth psychology, developmental neuroscience, trauma research, and the growing conversation around consciousness and memory. Together, we'll wonder about: • What babies may perceive and experience in the womb• Whether prenatal experiences can influence us later in life• The possibility of birth memory and implicit body memory• How the emotional environment surrounding pregnancy may affect the developing baby• What a baby might experience during birth and the transition into the world• The difference between conscious memory and implicit, emotional, and bodily memory• Whether our earliest experiences shape our expectations about safety, connection, trust, and belonging• What it might mean to consider birth as our first major relational experience This is an invitation to become curious about the possibility that our story began much earlier than we have been taught to believe. Perhaps our first memories aren't stored as pictures or words. Perhaps they are held as sensations. As expectations. As a felt sense of whether the world is safe, whether someone will come when we call, whether we belong, and whether we are welcomed here. And perhaps the question isn't only: What does the baby remember? But also: What has the baby never forgotten? Join me as we move closer to the beginning of the human story and explore what your earliest experiences might have to say about the person you are becoming today. The Disappointed Dreamer: Why Hope Begins to Feel Dangerous (and How to Trust Life Again)

What if the opposite of hope isn't despair... but self-protection? Have you ever caught yourself saying: "What's the point?""It probably won't work anyway.""I don't want to get my hopes up."We often call this pessimism. But what if it's something much more tender? In this episode of the Cosmic Birth Podcast, Julia Sahalie explores The Disappointed Dreamer—the part of us that quietly stopped dreaming after experiencing too many disappointments. Together, we'll uncover how early experiences in the womb, birth, childhood, and our closest relationships can shape a nervous system that learns to protect itself from hope. You'll discover: • Why hope can begin to feel emotionally unsafe• The developmental origins of expecting disappointment• How repeated unmet hopes create protective patterns• The hidden gifts of the Disappointed Dreamer• The beliefs that quietly shape our relationships, careers, and dreams• Why healing isn't about "thinking positive"• How safety, support, and nervous system capacity allow hope to return naturally Julia also shares a gentle fireside story about an old apple tree that had forgotten how to bloom—and the patient gardener who reminded it that healing begins at the roots. If you've ever felt afraid to dream again, this episode is an invitation to discover that perhaps nothing is wrong with your heart. Maybe your heart has simply been waiting for the right conditions to bloom again. "Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life." — Proverbs 13:12 Healing isn't learning to hope harder. It's creating the inner conditions where hope can quietly return. Your Story Began Before Birth: Exploring Memory, Consciousness & Pre-Birth Experiences

What if your first memory happened before you were born? In this episode of the Cosmic Birth Podcast, Julia Sahalie explores one of the most fascinating questions in consciousness research: Can memory exist before the brain is fully developed? Drawing from the work of Neil and Elizabeth Carman, David Chamberlain, Ian Stevenson, Jim Tucker, Stanislav Grof, Michael Newton and others, Julia explores reports of pre-birth memories, soul planning experiences, children's spontaneous recollections, near-death research, and emerging theories about consciousness beyond the brain. Topics include: • Pre-birth memories in children • Soul planning and choosing parents • Consciousness before birth • Stanislav Grof and the holographic model of consciousness • David Chamberlain's birth memory research • Ian Stevenson and Jim Tucker's studies of children's memories • Memory, the brain, and the mystery of awareness • The possibility of a soul blueprint This episode is not about convincing you what to believe. The Caretaker Wound: How Early Survival Becomes Self-Abandonment

Many of us wear the Caretaker role like a badge of honor. We're the dependable one. The helper. The listener. The one everyone can count on. But what if being a caretaker isn't simply a personality trait? What if it began as a survival strategy long before you had words to explain it? In this episode we explore the developmental origins of the Caretaker persona and how our earliest experiences can shape a lifelong pattern of prioritizing others while losing connection with ourselves. You'll discover: • The two most common ways the Caretaker develops in childhood and early attachment experiences • Why children often become emotional caretakers without realizing it • The hidden beliefs beneath people-pleasing, over-giving, and rescuing • The gifts and strengths of the Caretaker archetype • How this pattern shows up in relationships, work, family, and health • The emotional experience of feeling responsible for everyone else • Why burnout is often connected to self-abandonment • A fireside story about Andromeda and the sacrifice and Dr. Seuss's Thidwick the Big-Hearted Moose and what it teaches us about boundaries, belonging, and generosity This episode is not about becoming less caring. It's about learning how to include yourself in the circle of care. If you've ever felt exhausted from carrying everyone else's needs, this conversation may help you understand why and offer a gentler path home to yourself.
