Kesra Ram, an award winning and influential story writer, uses brilliant satire to expose, contrast, and criticize the beliefs and behaviors of people living in Haryana’s complex and rapidly changing economic, political, and social reality. He deftly tackles the controversial subject of gender selection and preference for boys, and the varying degrees of conscious decision making by the characters involved. He demolishes the myth that only the poor abort female fetuses. The title of the story Beti Ka Baap (Father of a Girl), is both a belittling and taunting expression in the local vernacular for a man with only a daughter. Two couples are contrasted in their attitudes towards centuries old traditions. Dr. Amit wants his wife, Professor Manju, a college lecturer, to bear him a son. But Dr. Ranbir Malik is happy distributing sweets even on the birth of his third daughter. About the author Kesra Ram is an acclaimed Haryana-based Punjabi short story writer and translator known for realistic depictions of socio-economic issues, particularly in rural settings. He won the prestigious 2020 Dhahan Prize for his collection Zanani Paud.Kesra Ram holds an MA degree in Hindi from Punjab University and degrees in journalism and mass communication from Rajasthan University. To date five books of short stories have been published: Ram Kishan Banaam State Hazir Ho (2004), Pulsiya Kiyon Marda Hai (2006), Bulbulyan Di Kaasht (2012), Thanks a Lot Puttra (2016), and Zanani Paud (2019). He has also translated twelve books from Hindi-Punjabi-Rajasthani. His book Ram Kishan Banaam State Hazir Ho has been translated into Gujarati language. Each of Ram’s first four short story collections was awarded the best book of the year award by Haryana Punjabi Sahit Academy. Ep106 ਨਵੰਬਰ ਚੁਰਾਸੀ - ਅਜੀਤ ਕੌਰ |November 84 by Ajeet Caur | 1984 Sikh Massacre | Sikh Genocide in Delhi | Voice - Harleen Kaur

The 1984 Sikh Massacre From October 31 to November 4, 1984, thousands of Sikhs were hunted and murdered by government-orchestrated mobs throughout India in a campaign of genocidal violence following the assassination of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. While the majority of the mass killings were concentrated in Delhi, violence also erupted in other Indian cities such as Kanpur, Bokaro, and several parts of Haryana and Bihar. In Ajeet Cour words, "November 1st, the bloodshed began. It was a narsaṃhār—a massacre. But this was no ordinary massacre. I had never seen anything like it. The ones doing the killing weren’t just committing acts of violence; they were laughing, singing, and dancing as they watched the bodies writhe in agony, like fish struggling out of water. It was the first time in my life I had witnessed such an inhumane spectacle." Unfortunately, the Indian government continues to deny appropriate justice to the victims and survivors of the massacres. In this audiobook, Ajeet Cour talks about her experiences as a Sikh woman in Delhi during the killings in 1984.
