Say All - A mixing console that talks back, better voices on iPhone, and a big week for Braille

Welcome to Say All, the weekly segment on The Tony Gebhard Show where I run through the assistive technology and AI news that actually matters to blind and low vision people, and I keep it short. This week: DiGiCo built a prototype that gives a digital mixing console a voice, and I explain why that one matters more than it sounds. A new text to speech engine brings neural voices to VoiceOver, and the classics are back. Four things happened in Braille at once. Three small Windows tools got meaningfully better. ACB wrapped its convention, and one of the sponsors should get your attention. Double Tap ran two episodes that say the mood is turning on AI, and I sit with that for a minute. Somebody pointed AI at documentation nobody funded and got something usable out the back. Plus games, and a handful of odds and ends. The Blind Kind go back in time, Kevin Reeves and Christina Campbell bring Sonic Synergy

What happens when you throw a blind podcaster, a musician with a new lease on life, and a crew that thrives on beautiful chaos into the same room? You get this episode. Christina Campbell and Kevin Reeves from the incredible radio show Sonic Synergy join the studio, and we go everywhere. Kevin opens up about his shift in perspective — playing music for venues, raising money for nonprofits, and finding purpose in the work that feeds the soul instead of just the ego. We get raw about mental health, and I mean raw. I take it back to when I was a drunken idiot making choices I'm not proud of, and Kevin shares his experience with gnarly vertigo that knocked him on his ass and rewired the way he sees the world. Those moments broke us down, but they also built something real. We talk about the growth since 2018, how Covid stripped away the noise and forced us to confront what actually matters — people. Real connection. Showing up for each other when it's hard. And then we get into something that doesn't get talked about enough — discrimination within blind culture. The inner hierarchy, the judgment, the ways we tear each other down when we should be building each other up. We dig into how we can do better, be better, and actually support one another. This one's got laughs, gut punches, and a whole lot of heart. Don't skip it. Building AI That Lives on Your Phone with Taylor Arndt

Today on The Tony Gebhard Show, we sit down with Taylor Arndt — blind developer, accessibility specialist, and COO of Techopolis Online Solutions. Taylor and her co-founder Michael Doise are a two-person indie team building Perspective Intelligence, an AI assistant that runs entirely on your device with no cloud, no servers, and no internet required. From live vision features like scene description and text recognition (completely free) to voice mode, audio transcription, and the brand new Tool Agents in version 1.6, this app is changing the game for blind and low-vision users. Taylor shares her journey from growing up blind in small-town Michigan, to teaching herself to code at 14, to shipping a full AI app on the App Store — all while navigating life as a blind and neurodivergent developer. We talk about privacy, accessibility-first design, building with ADHD, open-source tools, and why on-device AI matters more than most people realize. This is one you don't want to miss.
