Wilson Flying Diamond Ranch Pt. 1 of 2 with Jaclyn Wilson

In this episode of The Cattle Call, host Curtis Ohlde sits down with Jaclyn Wilson of Wilson Flying Diamond Ranch and Flying Diamond Beef on the Western Edge of the Nebraska Sandhills.  The ranch was homesteaded in 1888 making Jaclyn the fifth generation of Wilsons to live on the ranch.  In part 1 of this two-part episode, Jaclyn shares about the Ranch History, family coming from Holland and the importance of succession planning.  Jaclyn also shares how the ranch transitioned originally from Shorthorn cattle to Herefords then introducing Red Angus, South Devon and Simmental Genetics.  The cow herd, however, has stayed red in hide when most have gone black.  Something else the ranch has done that isn’t common for the region is carrying over feeders and running as yearlings.  Wilson Flying Diamond Ranch has a lot of International Travelers this year and a highlight for some of those travelers has been Topper a Longhorn Steer.

    Rennert Ranch with Kristian Rennert

In this episode of The Cattle Call, host Curtis Ohlde sits down with owner of the Rennert Ranch Kristian Rennert.  We experienced a little connection issue during the  interview as well as Curtis battling a cold and voice being off.  Kristian shares the story of starting out as a kid living in Denver, getting exposed to cattle and ranching through family and through his college years.  Also, shares his involvement in the Tarentaise breed early on.  He then shares starting out with his first couple of jobs to being a Field Man for the American International Charolais Association and finding a new home in Elm Creek, Nebraska.  As time passed he purchased a few cows until meeting his wife, getting married and growing more.  He then transitioned into the feed sales side before taking the leap to go out on his own having bull sales and going into the 3rd year of a female sale.

Kristian's wife Becky grew up in the Herford business in Illinois and was involved in working with various associations before working for DV Auctions and getting married.  Together they raise their son on the ranch as they build their Charolais Program.  December 3rd they will be having their 3rd female sale followed by annual bull sale in the spring.  For more information about the Rennert Ranch go to https://rennertranch.com/.
