S07E19 I don't have dreams!? I want to go to work and be good!?

OFFICE ROMANCE: Reviewed! Much like Proust’s madeleine (bear with me here) Christopher’s Huel meal really opened up an entire world of thought for us during the cold open today. Stay tuned for Christopher’s secret tidbit that might save you on a future delayed journey from Victoria station. Perhaps if Brett had included the differences in US and UK attitudes towards pints of ice water … one of us would have been more on board with today’s film! And to be fair to the makers of this film: we also don’t know if we are making a podcast or making fun of podcasts some days. It’s a fine line. For example, once upon a time we had a standard issue cold open segment. Now it's a behemoth! So much discourse before we even get to the 30 second game! On today’s world famous 30 second game (the cold open game during which, as those who are not new to this but true to this know best: we pitch a content-based improv game to the person we pitched the content to, during which they will be explaining what the podcast is all about … gosh we need a 30 second game for the 30 second game!) the fellas re-enacted the famous rom-com trope of the WAIT TAKE ME BACK scene at the end of a lot of our favourite rom coms, whether they’re AIRPORT based or AIRLINE SHE E O (shout out) based. So the boys did their rom com homage. And Jeffrey won back Christopher. At least thoroughly and romantically enough to get through the episode. We’ll see how the *will they won’t they* of it all progresses throughout the rest of season 7. Maybe one day we can do a season on clay Christopher. And hey. Maybe clay means Patreon. Who’s to know, eh?  As usual, a warning: so many spoilers! Watch Office Romance here: https://www.netflix.com/watch/81939823 More importantly, as mentioned on the podcast, watch Fish Jelly Film Reviews and their review of Office Romance: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dqTEcmvQX8k&t We didn’t mention it on the podcast but here is another fun YouTube review from StutterBox: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DJETOUUfyvI Oh f**k, Brett is still doing Films To Be Buried With! And it looks like the latest episodes have featured his Office Romance co-stars … and James Acaster! Oh Brett, can I resist your temptations as well as J.Lo did for like two scenes or what!?: https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/films-to-be-buried-with-with-brett-goldstein/id1408585620 This is Christopher’s hand-selected highlight from the crazy press tour Brett and J.Lo have been on for this film. Honestly, maybe I should have just watched a supercut of all the press tour snippets for the bang for your buck entertainment value these clips are clearly giving: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GDyh1gK9Rd8 As any good review of a British-adjacent comedy should, our review today got us thinking of Johnny English (2003): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lFmFwCRLsK4 And as any Johnny English/James Bond reference should, our review today then got us thinking of Get Smart (2008): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K9WNBO3szgQ Check out our website: cccappraisalhour.show Check out our e-mail: cccappraisalhour@gmail.com Check out our Twitter: twitter.com/cccappraisalpod Check out our YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@cccappraisalhour Check out our Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/cccahour Special FAVE MOMENT FROM THE POD RECORD note for VIP read-the-whole-show-notes-members only: When Christopher was all sad about losing the season before we even revealed the scores for today’s episode! Lol. Also the football team (sometimes a player carries a team like an actor carries a film) and penalty shoot out (Christopher felt like a goalkeeper facing down quite the deficit by the time of the score-reveals) metaphors went hard … perhaps an easter egg for the impending pitch … ?  SPOILERS BELOW FOR NEXT WEEK: https://www.netflix.com/watch/81771560 Hosted on Acast. S07E18 You’re a John Cusack guy watching Ferris Bueller’s Day Out going "Why Don’t I Like This"

FERRIS BUELLER’S DAY OFF: Reviewed!  We never have a week off at CCCAHHQ, let alone a day off! We’re out here grinding! Week in and week out. No long winded excuses and elaborate ruses needed! Just every Thursday … here for you. Audio. Pretty good. Thumbnail. Low budget. Show title. Lol. And show notes. Long.  Except for that one time I forgot to do shownotes (or was it two times … three?) and Christopher texted me a sad face emoji in the morning and I was all like “sorry I was asleep” or something. Not the most well-thought out plan there. I guess … life just came at me pretty fast! You know, I think I’m gonna recommend saying this famous line from F B’s D O to the camera of your life as often as possible. In a motivational-coach manifesting mantra kind of way. Interior monologues are great but let’s all try this together shall we, something we (especially one of us!) loves doing on the programme and advocating for generally: yapping and yapping! We’re a bunch of dapper yappers here ladies and gentleme. So let’s do it … three, two, one *turns to the camera and/or microphone*: “The CCCAH moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and listen once in a while, you could miss it." Now whether you are popping your Ferris cherry with Christopher or a Day Off veteran like Jeffrey, we have to remind you of something that has almost become a guaranteed given on every episode of the podcast … this is not a safe space for spoilers! We mainly do nothing but spoil, actually, come to think of it. We’re the SPOILER PODCAST!!! We hope this can align with and compliment your media consumption diet regardless. We are happy to be another set piece in your life, if you choose to stick with us today. And whether you’re at work or skiving, we hope you are enjoying lip syncing along with your favourite podcast theme song!  Watch Ferris Bueller’s Day Off here on ITV: https://www.itv.com/watch/ferris-buellers-day-off/2a5088/2a5088a0001 Roger Ebert wrote a review of this film. He is becoming a shownotes regular! I’m so happy the nature of our pitches has led to this … I bet it won’t last! Hah: https://www.rogerebert.com/reviews/ferris-buellers-day-off-1986 We are back on our extra curriculars this week too. There is a lot of optional homework and video essays, just like Jeffrey likes and Christopher feels low key ambivalent about! Let’s start with Jack Lawrence’s video “How To Live Without Regrets”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EchbDd_ijX8 Next up is Schloetz’s video “Don’t Miss Out On Your Own Life”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oeac9bnLTRU Then we have to get to the Cam of it all, the Cam man can, hey batter batter swing batter batter man … Cinemastix (who Christopher rates) made a video called “The moment you realize the main character is not actually the main character”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DaMimdNNnAw We also have John Hughes’ one and only audio commentary for this film. I would pay good money to watch Christopher live-react to listening to/watching this hehe: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WtbNhDI4j6M We also have a video compilation of some extra features from DVD releases: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ao-cVG6ZsAo And finally we have a Josh Gad hosted video in which the cast was reunited during Covid: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dOaa3Znh75w Check out our website: cccappraisalhour.show Check out our e-mail: cccappraisalhour@gmail.com Check out our Twitter: twitter.com/cccappraisalpod Check out our YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@cccappraisalhour Check out our Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/cccahour Special FAVE MOMENT FROM THE POD RECORD note for VIP read-the-whole-show-notes-members only: When Christopher revealed the last straw for his partner … cracked me up!  SPOILERS BELOW FOR NEXT WEEK: https://www.netflix.com/watch/81939823 Hosted on Acast. (500) Days of Summer: reviewed! *Richard McGonagle Voiceover voice* The boys had been enjoying doing their podcast for a couple of years by the time it got to episode 17 of Season 7 … it was a close call who would win. And as they say, it’s not a competition … but then again … *zoom in to see a bead of sweat running down Christopher’s face* … everything is! IT’S MOVIE SEASON BABY! None of these are SPECIALS and yet … every episode is SPECIAL in its own way, wouldn’t you say? We hope you enjoy 2 old men doing the WAIT, THIS ACTOR WAS IN WHAT FILM game for most of today’s opening. We’ll save you the trouble of screaming … yes, we were talking about the actor Dominic Sessa. And no, we didn’t name him lol. And thankfully, we don’t like all the same bizarro shit … or else this wouldn’t be that fun a pod, now would it? I would like to declare today’s episode a not-very-safe-space for spoilers. If you would like to experience this movie free of our RAMBLING TAKES clogging up your brainwaves: it is worth an initial spoiler-free watch before rejoining the chat/giving this ep a listen.  Here in the furnace of CCCAH coded fun-and-matey-banter, we hone our opinions as per. It’s like an opinion workshop sometimes, this podcast. We get into it. All of it. We hope you enjoy our tangents and manage to follow the two streams of consciousness at work. And don’t forget, for those of you considering following your dreams … what if your dream was running a greeting-card company like Vance (played by Clark Gregg). Or producing a little podcast? Don’t tell anyone you’re dreaming too big but also … don’t let anyone tell you you’re dreaming too small! Find a dream that works for you. Might be nice to dream a dream you can make come true! Keep dreaming and keep scheming! 500 days of Tom was more than enough for me but I fear 1,309 of the CCCAH might be enough for you guys too! *looks straight at the camera*   Watch 500 Days of Summer here: https://www.disneyplus.com/en-gb/play/00d02322-3b21-4663-ae22-c2c4a2db3f9f Watch the trailer for Tony: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k1MVnzd2aVc Watch the trailer for The Debut: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=clyzHmBx43E Watch In Defense of Tom - Video Essay - Celebrating 13 Years of (500) Days of Summer by wolf visuals: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tHxYKCxfOHM Watch The Problem with (500) Days of Summer by Ariana Alexis: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zZV12hRG848 Watch 3 Interpretations of Summer by Jesse Tribble: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=blsTV2Wv0s8 For the sake of balance, read Roger Ebert’s super favourable review here. Probably the only time the band Mumm-Ra has sparked joy for anyone in years! Ok lol that was harsh and unnecessary but forgive me, was just trying to make Christopher laugh again!  SPOILERS BELOW FOR NEXT WEEK:  https://www.itv.com/watch/ferris-buellers-day-off/2a5088/2a5088a0001 Hosted on Acast. DIRTY DANCING: Reviewed!  I can’t believe it but after another week of edging the listenership with aniticipation we’re here again for another week in the Cultural Content Consumption Appraisal Hour Universe (the CCCAHU) and we’re talking about how grateful you should all be for it! It’s like clockwork. Thursday mornings without a break EVER. “It’s Thursday and you know what that means” vibes for the indefinite future! You all won’t know how good you had it until Christopher and I are chatting shit about each other on our separate podcasts, The Rag Tag Rambling Gambling Groovy Booty Show with Jeffrey Bahlo and the Good Production Quality show with Christopher Anousis. But hey, until then, let’s stay present and appreciate where we are and acknowledge … that we are on a movie streak baby!  We are going from strength to strength in this summer of dance, drama and romance! We are reviewing Dirty Dancing today. A movie that is not from 1989. Or 1988. But … yep … you guessed it … Christopher’s 1987. Wow. Well, we’re eighties babies with nineties hearts I guess. So let’s keep the 2020s podcasting going. The reviewing. The side-bar swerving. The guessing. The scoring. The off-point accumulating. The pitching. The faff, the guff and the malarkey: the holy trinity of vibes that comes with yammering on and on with your bestie on a little-known podcast hiding in the vast unknown expanse of the internet for years on end. We love it. We hope you do too.  Watch Dirty Dancing here on ITV: https://www.itv.com/watch/dirty-dancing/10a3659 Read the Dirty Dancing Wikipedia page like Jeffrey did as if it’s a damn BOOK: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dirty_Dancing Listen to the Dirty Dancing soundtrack here. Only if (unlike Christopher) you’ve … had … the time of your life … and you owe it all to the CCCAH … ok not ALL, but SOME … and you’ve NEVER felt this way before … ok maybe not NEVER but definitely not ALL THE TIME or anything: https://music.apple.com/gb/album/dirty-dancing-original-motion-picture-soundtrack/254938499 We love Roger Ebert round these parts so let’s enjoy, for balance, Ebert being quite down on Dirty Dancing, to the tune of one star: https://www.rogerebert.com/reviews/dirty-dancing-1987 A more positive review from the time from Samuel G. Freedman of the New York Times: https://www.nytimes.com/1987/08/16/movies/film-dirty-dancing-rocks-to-an-innocent-beat.html Paul McCartney … how could you do this to us: https://www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/2026/jul/05/paul-mccartney-i-want-to-hold-your-hand-taylor-swift-wedding Madison Square Garden … how could you: https://pitchfork.com/story/madison-square-garden-disabled-its-surveillance-system-for-taylor-swifts-wedding/ A interview with the unsung goat behind Dirty Dancing (and many other dances) Kenny Ortega: https://www.insidedance.com/news-features/kenny-ortega-living-a-legacy/ Netflix made a docu-series called The Movies That Made Us and the very first episode covered the making of Dirty Dancing: https://www.netflix.com/watch/80994955 And for those who are only getting more *smitten* with, *curious* about and *excited* by the film … here is more behind the scenes footage from the making of the film: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OzZyTG5UB0w Check out our website: cccappraisalhour.show Check out our e-mail: cccappraisalhour@gmail.com Check out our Twitter: twitter.com/cccappraisalpod Check out our YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@cccappraisalhour Check out our Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/cccahour Special FAVE MOMENT FROM THE POD RECORD note for VIP read-the-whole-show-notes-members only: When we finally broke the news of Taylor Swift’s wedding! First podcast to do so, I think? No? Ok well still, we stand by the fact that no one has truly covered THE FALL OF T-SWIFT like we here at the CCCAH have. Late era Swift has been a depressing rollercoaster, lowest of keys.  SPOILERS BELOW FOR NEXT WEEK: https://www.disneyplus.com/en-gb/browse/entity-00d02322-3b21-4663-ae22-c2c4a2db3f9f Hosted on Acast. LEGALLY BLONDE: Reviewed!  Come one, come all! It’s time for the Cultural Content Consumption Appraisal Hour and our Legally Blonde era. We are finally about to be on fleek and slay and do all the things. And now, why do we have to go all the way back to our youths and 2001 to do these very 2020s things? Well, because …Legally Blonde is a core text. And we’re all about the core texts here on the CCCAH. It’s our all pink episode where we say goodbye to a long first half of the summer filled with sport and say hello to a long second half of the summer filled with fashion. We have a lot to learn there. Or at least one of us does. Keep your eyes peeled on the thumbnails for evidence of any growth in that area hehehe.  We are an educational programme, really. We are here to educate you and educate ourselves. We are here to get excited by the premise for a 30 second game and then get so carried away that we forget to mention how the scores work (I feel like that tidbit of information can be quite crucial for a new listener, to be quite honest with you). We are here for sidebars that last longer than the reviews, cold open that are creeping towards a sixth of the length of a full episode and SHAPELY score-guesses and score-actuals!   At the end of the day, it’s Thursday and you know what that means. It’s a perfect day. Nothing standing in my way. On this perfect day, where nothing can go wrong. It's the perfect day. Tomorrow's gonna come too soon. I could stay forever as I am. DEAR ENGLAND EPISODE 1: Reviewed!  We need a period of calm. It’s Thursday the 16th of July. You know what that means. That means England. Dear, sweet England of ours ... either world cup finalists once again. Or they’re absolute trash traitors who should be ashamed of themselves!!! Lol joking! But yes, we are recording in limbo. Betwixt and between world cup semi finals and finals. Once more unto the breach my dear friends type shit. Potentially the last ever episode (full stop!?) of the CCCAH covering the beautiful game! Well for the haters out there, I’m sure you’re delighted. But for those of you who have enjoyed this mini-run of tangentially football-related eps (which we could put into a little specialised playlist … a mini-series, if you will!) we hope you enjoy this one and give the show a chance and all. Let’s all band together for 1 last team talk, eh lads and lasses? Lions and lionesses. Let’s walk up to the penalty spot (everything is penalties, lowest of keys) and when we get there to press play on this episode let’s turn around and remember … whether this episode sucks … or is great … we’re all doing this together. That’s right. You’re hearing me correctly. This podcast is THE FAULT OF ALL OF US! Goddamn. Ok maybe that was no Christopher-in-the-thirty-second-game-in-the-eight-minute-cold-open-that-actually-had-stoppage-time but still … I think I Southgated the shit out of that.  Watch episode 1 of Dear England here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m002qkv1/dear-england-series-1-episode-1 Watch Gareth Southgate’s new documentary “Changing The Game for Young Men” which is probably better and more important than all the fictionalising plays and shows around the England run he stewarded, as great as those runs were: https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m002xk5y/gareth-southgate-changing-the-game-for-young-men Read this Guardian review of the show (Christopher did!) here: https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2026/may/24/dear-england-review-joseph-fienness-gareth-southgate-is-a-total-caricature-on-tv Read this Guardian review of the play (Jeffrey did!) here: https://www.theguardian.com/stage/2023/jun/20/dear-england-review-touching-funny-retelling-of-gareth-southgates-quiet-revolution AI Will Smith eating spaghetti! Need a website specifically to refute that shit) no hints, no nothing. And then we he did reveal it at the end … before the swerve … he got your boy SCURRREEDDD out here in the southernmost regions of Harrow. Might not recover from it tbh. BLACKBERRY: Reviewed!  Welcome to the show of shows! It’s Thursday the 9th of July so of course we’ll be live-reacting to the Egypt vs Argentina game from Tuesday the 7th of July and discussing a bit of England vs Mexico from Sunday the 5th of July! When you really deep it, we as a podcast are all things to all people. A football recap ramble, a half-hearted improvisatory game show, an excuse for two friends to catch up, and most importantly your one-stop shop to find out what is culturally relevant in our culturally fragmented wasteland that is the world we live in online and irl in 2026 … from two absolute hipster! Whether that’s a new album or a movie from 70 years ago!  And as they say in this very film we review today “men will no longer commute, they will communicate!” You’re darn tootin’! We don’t even commute to do the pod or maintain the friendship, at this point. It’s all just communication. It’s all just like those humans sat in their do-it-all-entertainment-set-up chairs at the end of Wall-E!  This week we are reviewing BlackBerry, a film directed by Matt Johnson in the year of our lord 2023. We have come such a long way since the year of the start-up-series 2022 (WeCrashed and Super Pumped) but now it is time to really talk about BlackBerry. Like, the time has come. The origin of the smartphone. The Canadian claim to fame! This is a special ep really, when you think about it, the CCCCAH! The quadruple C! The Canadian Cultural Content Consumption Appraisal Hour! We are also officially a Matt Johnson podcast now, so that’s good.  Watch the movie on DailyMotion because you are cool like that: https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x9z6yq4 Watch this really focused Matt Johnson (the Jim Balsillie version of Matt Johnson) interview with QTV: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=okb33-IJh50 Watch this really fun Matt Johnson (the Doug Fregin version of Matt Johnson) interview with Stavros Halkias: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7S8jbyExVPY Watch this really informative Matt Johnson (the Mike Lazaridis version of Matt Johnson) interview with Joel Talks About Movies: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zoZOa9xjM1g&t=14s The Guardian review of BlackBerry: https://www.theguardian.com/film/2023/oct/08/blackberry-review-smartphone-buy-opic-is-a-wild-ride Mark Kermode’s review of BlackBerry: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G-lT0firll4 Check out our website: cccappraisalhour.show Check out our e-mail: cccappraisalhour@gmail.com Check out our Twitter: twitter.com/cccappraisalpod Check out our YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@cccappraisalhour Check out our Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/cccahour Special FAVE MOMENT FROM THE POD RECORD note for VIP read-the-whole-show-notes-members only: When Christopher brought up how Penélope Cruz hasn’t aged a day. S00E23 ALBUMS ONLY CLUB Plan 75 By The Orchestra (For Now)

PLAN 75 BY THE ORCHESTRA (FOR NOW): Reviewed!  We swing back from our regularly scheduled programme to as special a special as we’ve done for a while. Why so special? Oh I don’t know. Let’s just say, this one will live long in the memory in terms of its placement on the calendar. Between the 25th of June and the 2nd of July, the podcast has been enjoying the summer. And we shall leave it at that.   It’s Thursday and you know what that means. But there is also a very specific and intricate mathematical formula for you to know that it means it’s a special episode rather than a regular one. Because so far it’s more often than quarterly and less often than monthly, and so it almost might seem like these pop up in your feed at random! But no. Trust us. There is both a rhyme and a reason to it. And the best bit is it’s not determined by an algorithm of any kind. It’s pure, unadulterated, intuitive and organic … vibes.  This week the podcast is reviewing the first EP by a new band called The Orchestra (For Now). Albums Only Club (we see you Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and we’re coming for your acronym!) is back for it’s third edition. Strap in music lovers because sometimes … you even get a break from the yapping and get to just listen to the music! Or … even during those moments, one of us is singing along to the music and making an ass of themselves.
