Ep 196: God With You In The Fire - Joseph In Genesis 39 (Part 3)

Send us Fan Mail "Today, we continue our deeper dive into Genesis 39, where we see Joseph descend into slavery and then into prison. Did you know that the same God who was with Joseph in his difficulty is with you in Christ?" We dig into Genesis 39 and track how Joseph stays faithful in Egypt while everything around him pushes compromise. We walk through God’s presence in suffering, a hard reset on what “prosperity” means, and the kind of integrity that holds up under daily pressure. • Genesis 38 as an intentional contrast between Judah’s compromise and Joseph’s refusal to blend in • God’s presence with Joseph as the thread that runs through slavery, uncertainty, and progress • Romans 8:28 as a lens for reading Joseph’s story and our own hardships • Prosperity redefined as God with us rather than stuff, status, or comfort • Faithfulness producing favor, steady work, and visible blessing in a difficult environment • Temptation as repeated pressure, not a one-time moment • Practicing God’s presence as a real-world strategy for resisting sin • Integrity as being whole, the same person when no one is around • Wisdom about boundaries, isolation, and knowing when to run If you have any prayer requests, just reach out, shoot us an email, a text, or Request Prayer Here, and we will lift you up in prayer. Ep 195: Envy And The Beloved Son - Joseph In Genesis 37 (Part 2)

Send us Fan Mail "Do you know that the Bible is the Word and foundation for Plays on Word? Today we continue examining the text behind the Genesis 'JOE' play. How can the Word of God be a foundation for YOUR life?" We slow down Genesis 37 and trace how envy fuels Joseph’s rejection, betrayal, and sale into slavery while Scripture quietly sets up parallels to Jesus. We connect the story’s “small details” to big theology, then land on practical courage for anyone who knows what it feels like to be mistreated for doing right. • Matthew 27 envy as the motive behind rejecting Jesus • Genesis 37 dream interpretation and why Jacob reacts strongly • Joseph sent by a loving father as a picture of the Father sending the Son • Why Shechem and Dothan matter for close Bible study • The brothers’ conspiracy, the pit, and the theme of rejection • Mark 12 parable of the tenants and the rejected cornerstone • Midianites and Ishmaelites traced back to Abraham’s family line • Silver, deception, and the bloodied robe that devastates Jacob • Hebrews encouragement to draw near for mercy and grace If you have any prayer requests, just reach out, shoot us an email, a text, or Request Prayer Here, and we will lift you up in prayer. Ep 194: Family Dysfunction Into Redemption - Joseph In Genesis 37 (Part 1)

Send us Fan Mail "Today on Plays on Word Radio, we take a look at the text behind the Genesis 'JOE' play – Genesis 37-50. Have you ever examined the Word behind Plays on Word?" Joseph’s story opens as a continuous Genesis mini-series, and we slow down to see why his life becomes one of the clearest Old Testament pictures pointing to Jesus. We trace how favoritism, status, and dreams ignite hatred in a broken family while God’s sovereignty quietly sets the direction of everything. • Why Joseph stands out as one of the only figures besides Jesus with no sin recorded in the text • The Genesis “these are the generations of” structure and why Joseph appears immediately under Jacob’s heading • Jacob’s long, messy family timeline leading into Genesis 37 • How favoritism fuels dysfunction and multiplies resentment • Why the “robe of many colors” likely signals authority and privilege more than color • Joseph’s dreams as a flashpoint for rejection and jealousy • Typology connecting Joseph’s rejection to Jesus being hated for His words • The Revelation 12 connection some scholars see in the sun, moon, and stars imagery Please click on the underlined links throughout. Ep 193: From Heroin To Hope

Send us Fan Mail "What happens when a desperate prayer at 1 a.m. becomes the beginning of a completely transformed life? Today, The Sassman’s share the raw story of Larry’s journey through heroin addiction and alcoholism—and the moment he cried out, “Lord, if you’re there…” What followed was an encounter he describes not as self-control, but as rescue." We sit down with Larry and Becky Sassman to remember Pastor Shaw, talk honestly about change, and share what it looks like to keep serving after loss. Larry tells the story of addiction, an unpolished 1 a.m. prayer, and the moment his desires shifted toward Jesus for good. • Remembering Pastor Shaw and the impact of his long ministry • The challenge of stepping into weekly preaching and verse-by-verse Bible teaching • Trusting the Holy Spirit to bring depth even in hard passages • Larry’s testimony of drug use, heroin, alcoholism, and sudden deliverance • The difference between managing behavior and having desires transformed • Rehab, AA, and why “higher power” language matters • Becky’s childhood salvation, later baptism experience, and early mission trips • Local church life in Leonardo, New Jersey, including service times and community events Please click on the underlined links throughout. Ep 192: Psalm 139 And The Difference Between Knowing God And Knowing About Him

Send us Fan Mail "Today on Plays on Word Radio, we explore Psalm 139, discovering God’s intimate knowledge, personal thoughts, and purpose for us. Are you truly knowing God, or simply knowing about Him?" We slow down in Psalm 139 and let it hit us as personal truth: God searches us, knows us, and has more thoughts toward us than we can count. We also challenge the gap between knowing facts about God and living in a real relationship with Him through the Word and prayer. • Gearing up for the Genesis 'JOE' tour and expanded teaching beyond the play • Honoring Lydia DeRosa and Eddison Sainsbury and reflecting on longing for glory • Explaining the difference between knowing about God and knowing Him • Using the president analogy to show what relationship really means • Using the Kai Greene and Flex Wheeler story to expose false familiarity • Inviting listeners to reach out to God for a right relationship • Teaching how God speaks through Scripture and we respond through prayer • Reading Psalm 139 and highlighting God’s nearness and complete knowledge • Emphasizing God’s care in the womb and the value of human life • Ending with David’s prayer for God to search the heart and lead us  Please click on the underlined links throughout. Ep 191: Breakfast With The Risen Jesus ('PETE' Part 2)

Send us Fan Mail "Today on Plays on Word Radio, we step back into Peter’s story through 'PETE' (https://www.playsonword.org/pete),' exploring Jesus’ resurrection and commission to the disciples. Have you considered His commission to you as a follower?" We bring the second half of our broadcast from the 'PETE' play back to life, tracing Jesus’ resurrection appearances from the locked upper room to breakfast by the Sea of Galilee. We also slow down to make the gospel plain and give a direct path to real assurance of salvation that rests on what Christ has done. • The disciples’ shock as they announce Jesus is alive • Jesus opening the Scriptures and making the gospel click • Thomas demanding proof and meeting the risen Christ • Peter returning to fishing and the miracle catch • Breakfast on the shore and Peter’s three questions • “Follow me” and staying focused on your own call • The Great Commission and the Mount of Olives scene • Worship and praise as a response to the resurrection • The difference between church attendance and true faith • A clear invitation to pray for forgiveness and new life "If you're not sure, if you're not sure, you can BE sure before you walk out underneath that exit sign."  Please click on the underlined links throughout. Send us Fan Mail "Today On Plays on Word Radio, we step into Peter’s story through 'PETE,' exploring Jesus’ Last Supper, Gethsemane, betrayal, denial, crucifixion, and resurrection. How does Peter’s restoration speak to you?" We walk back into Peter’s memory of the Last Supper, the garden, the arrest, and the moment he denies Jesus and breaks under the weight of it. We also follow the story through the cross, the sealed tomb, the empty grave, the Emmaus road, and Jesus standing among us with real peace. • Returning to the 'PETE' play and why it matters now • Jesus washing feet as the model for serving one another • Betrayal named at the table and Judas leaving into the night • The bread and cup as the new covenant • The promise of the Holy Spirit as Counselor and Spirit of truth • Gethsemane sorrow, repeated prayer, and the disciples falling asleep • The arrest, the sword, and Jesus healing Malchus • Peter warming by the fire and denying Jesus three times • Crucifixion, burial, and the grief of the darkest Sabbath • The empty tomb, folded grave clothes, and the question of what happened • Emmaus, hearts burning, and recognizing Jesus in the breaking of bread • Jesus appearing in the room, speaking peace, and eating fish. Ep 189: Envy Or Contentment

Send us Fan Mail "Envy quietly steals joy, distorts God’s goodness, and damages relationships. Scripture exposes its danger through Rachel, Leah, Saul, and others, while teaching contentment, gratitude, and trust in God’s provision. Are you comparing anything in your life with others instead of recognizing God’s goodness?" We walk through how envy works in the human heart and why Scripture treats it as a serious spiritual danger, not a small personality issue. We also build a practical path toward contentment in Christ through Genesis, Paul’s letters, Proverbs, and a simple gratitude challenge when life is hard. • Transitioning into the Genesis 'JOE' season and why dramatized Scripture still carries real spiritual power • Expository preaching as a way to let the Word set the agenda and confront hard topics • Rachel and Leah as a clear picture of envy, jealousy, and discontent inside a family • Biblical examples of envy in Cain and Abel, Saul and David, and the Pharisees toward Jesus • Jealousy versus envy and why they are closely related but not identical • Envy versus admiration and how to check what is happening in our hearts • Contentment as “great gain” and why desire for riches becomes a snare • Money as a tool and the danger of letting money have us • Proverbs 30 on neither poverty nor riches and the spiritual risks of having too much • Thanking God in trials because He is with us even when feelings say otherwise  Please click on the underlined links throughout.  If you want to get the devotion mentioned, click underlined link below: 📬 Truth to Carry Through Your Day — Daily Devotion Sign-Up! 📖  Click Here!  Genesis 'JOE' @ Calvary Chapel Southport — https://playsonword.networkforgood.com/events/105117-26-genesis-joe-11-14-6-30pm-sat-show-1-man-biblical-play-calvary-chapel-southport-oak-island-moose-lodge-banquet-hall-nc To find out more, check out our website at playsonword.org.
