    Marriage and Divorce // RELATE (Matthew 19:3-12)

    🗓️ 20 September 2026. 🎙️ Speaker: Nic Cassar. When the Pharisees question Jesus about divorce, he answers by first painting a vision of marriage. Rounding out our Relate series, Nic unpacks five biblical themes: marriage is all in rather than half in, a covenant rather than a contract, self giving rather than self actualising, complementary rather than competitive, and about sanctification rather than salvation. Turning to divorce, he is honest that God hates the breaking of covenant yet permits it in a broken world, and clear that sustained harm, abuse and neglect are never to be brushed aside on a technicality. Wherever you find yourself, no one is beyond redemption and healing in Christ. They work through Jesus' words in Matthew 19, showing how the Pharisees' "any and every reason" question reflects a flippant view of divorce common in that culture, and how Jesus responds by first raising the value of marriage rather than lowering it. Turning to Paul in 1 Corinthians 7, they explore the exception of abandonment and what it means that some churches have wrongly kept people in situations of sustained abuse and neglect on a technicality. Nathan shares openly from his own experience of a marriage that ended, and the conversation lands on two truths worth holding onto: God knows what separation feels like, and no one is beyond redemption.     🗓️13 September 2026. 🎙️Speaker: Dianne Marshall Conflict touches all of us, in families, workplaces, churches and often most painfully within our own hearts. Di Marshall, part of Belair's global mission team with SIM, and a trained peacemaker and mediator, offers four pictures to work with: the storm of conflict itself, the wind of hidden opportunity, the currents of desire running beneath the surface, and the harbour of God's wisdom. Drawing on James 3 & 4, she shows that not all conflict is bad and that our response makes all the difference, opening the way to glorify God, serve others and grow more like Christ. Jesus blessed the peacemakers, not the peacekeepers, and this message is a gentle, courageous call to take one peacemaking step this week.     Forgiveness // RELATE (Matthew 18:21–35; Micah 7:18–20)

    🗓️ 6 September 2026. 🎙️ Speaker: Nick Varady-Szabo.  We have all been hurt, and we have all hurt someone else, which makes forgiveness one of the costliest things we ever wrestle with. Nick works through three threads running across Scripture: God is first and foremost a forgiving God, repentance and honest confession go hand in hand with forgiveness, and we forgive others in light of how much we have been forgiven. Sex is one of the most powerful and most complicated parts of being human, and the church has not always known how to talk about it well.     🗓️ 3 September 2024. 🎙️ Nic Cassar, Claire Landers, and Sarah McCutcheon. In this re-released episode, we continue our Relate series. Nic & Claire sat down with Sarah McCutcheon, author of a book on singleness, for an honest and warm conversation about what it really means to be single in the church. Drawing on real, anonymous comments from our own community, they name the isolation, pressure, and unintended assumptions that single people so often carry, and gently push back on the idea that the opposite of married is alone. Looking to the example of Jesus and Paul, both single, and to Jesus' teaching on eunuchs and Paul's words on undivided devotion, they explore how singleness is no less spiritual than marriage and can be a season of rich relationship, mission, and freedom. The conversation lands on three simple invitations: for the church to be a genuine spiritual family, for single people to guard their hearts and know they are already fully loved by God, and for all of us to look to Jesus, who shows us a fulfilled and deeply relational life.
