    Godzilla (1954) - HHF4M1

    HALLOWEEN HUMPFEST IS BACK and we’re in the fourth year! “HUMPFEST” derives from when we were called “MOVIEHUMPERS” and this theme, along with “Movies Are Gay” is our most consistent. We’re doing the whole month classic style which means each day of the weekday covers a Horror sub-genre and Mondays are devoted the kaiju type. Mondays are called HERE THERE BE MONSTER MONDAYS and our first Monday in October kicks off with a discussion on the greatest of all the city destroying beast, the King of the Monsters, the original Kaiju. Of course we’re talkin’ GODZILLA, specifically the 1954 film by Ishirō Honda that kicked off the international phenomenon. What a treat to sit through this groundbreaking flick after probably not watching a Godzilla movie since we were children. It may be a man in a rubber suit, maybe the eyes look funny, but the foreboding dread and scope of destruction are captured amazingly. Not to mention the scale models and old school practical effects that are more and more becoming a thing of the past. Through the context of film history, Godzilla holds up nice so hit play on this episode and hear what else we got to say about it. This ep is kinda loosey goosey and a good amount of fun.     Every Friday for HALLOWEEN HUMPFEST 4 is devoted to the freaks with a franchise. Yes, we’re going over a whole series of movies and boy golly talk about peaks and valleys in this year’s franchise choice. You might get whiplash but at least we start off killer. THE EXORCIST is every Friday and today breaks it in with the original EXORCIST film from 1973. One of the most talked about movies of all time. A real game changer. We don’t split hairs as much as talk about our favorite moments, give some crazy facts behind the scenes and reflect on the legacy of the classic film. The episode features a possessed David Letterman and Paul Simon’s disembodied spirit. That’s called “clickbait”, kids. Write it down.     House on Haunted Hill (1958) - HHF4Th1

    YEAR FOUR OF HALLOWEEN HUMPFEST BEGINS! We’re kicking this monthlong cavalcade of daily themed horror just right with a guy we’ve taken too long to get to. The horror queen…er, King himself…VINCENT PRICE. In our youth, Vincent Price was a narrative voice more than anything but now we finally sit down with five of his films, each Thursday this month, and what a good time at the movies that turned out to be. We’ll encompass three decades of the Master of the Macabre starting with this hit horror classic from 1958, “HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL”. This is an early adaptation of a story that keeps coming back around throughout the generations. Everybody has to stay in a haunted house if they want 10 grand, but it’s not just a haunted place where people were killed in bizarre ways, it’s the perfect setting for the fall of an amazing marriage. Truly, they had so much in common. They should have just died together. All of our Vincent Price selections are on Amazon Prime and even better than that some of them are free to watch online.     New Jersey on Film - Nothing But Trouble (1991) + Ghost Towns of the Garden State

    Finally, we wrap up New Jersey for our AINT THAT AMERICA series and things got shuffled around a little bit before we decided last minute to switch to this oddball ass movie. We scrapped “Jersey Girl” and then “Paterson” for a little less North Jersey representation but truth be told the geography is haywire in the 1991 Dan Aykroyd film ‘NOTHING BUT TROUBLE” starring him, Chevy Chase, Demi Moore and John Candy. If you’ve ever seen this movie then you may never forget it but not for all the right reasons. It’s hard to explain. Go see it and then hear us talk about it and much more as we say farewell to New Jersey with a tour of its ghost towns. Where would Valkenvania be in New Jersey if it were real?     New Jersey on Film - The Wrestler (2008) + Randy the Ram's Obituary

    We’re at our penultimate New Jersey selection for our AINT THAT AMERICA series and surely we can get sadder, right? We’re heading to Asbury Park and all over Jersey from Rahway down to Wilmington, Delaware. The best city to die in bar none. As far as we can tell the 2008 film “The Wrestler” starring Mickey Rourke is Darren Aronofsky’s best movie but we’re far from experts. But pro-wrestling? That’s in the wheelhouse, brother. I gig for this shit. I put it over.
