The first edition took place in Mexico City from September 28th-30th, 2022. The event welcomed 500 participants, and consisted of 23 panels and more than 75 speakers. Key generators of proposals for the region presented their ideas and recommendations to strengthen its integration.     No Scrubs: Raising the Standard for North American Security

    Hosted by the Mexico Program at the Inter-American Dialogue For decades, issues such as trade, migration, and security were often addressed as separate policy domains. Today, those lines have blurred. Economic competitiveness, supply chain resilience, migration management, and public safety are now inextricably linked, making security a central pillar of the U.S.–Mexico relationship and the broader North American agenda. This panel examined the extensive and evolving security cooperation between the United States and Mexico to address shared challenges, including transnational organized crime, human smuggling, drug and arms trafficking, border security, illicit trade, fuel theft, cyber threats, and other cross-border risks. It explored how bilateral collaboration has expanded beyond traditional law enforcement to encompass economic security, infrastructure protection, supply chain resilience, and regional prosperity. Canada, Mexico, and the United States must work together to strengthen economic security, energy security, citizen security, and national security. At its core, this panel is about understanding security not as a standalone issue, but as the foundation for a more resilient, competitive, and prosperous North America.     Hosted by the Adam Smith Center for Freedom at Florida International University Carlos Díaz-Rosillo offered a closer look at the United States in the Trump era, unpacking a strategy that can often appear unpredictable or disconnected at first glance. He explored how, beneath the headlines and seemingly contradictory moves, there is a clear logic at work—each decision part of a broader strategy shaped by Trump’s political priorities, economic goals, and vision for America’s role in the world. He then joined Enrique Perret for a conversation that brought the discussion closer to home, addressing some of the key questions and concerns people in Mexico have about the United States and what the Trump era means for the future of the bilateral relationship.
