World Vision International Nepal's Nepal Innovation Lab (NLab) have initiated a podcast series called "Stories of Innovation" to showcase some of the promising innovations in Nepal - as innovation has expanded beyond the Silicon Valley and there are so many powerful stories to be told by the local leaders in the space of innovation. The target audience for this podcast series are young professionals, innovators, humanitarians, social entrepreneurs and philanthropists who are keen to solve some of the most pressing challenges of our time.

    Episode 10: Putting Somalia in the Global Start-up Map | Nishant Das, Katrin Calledo

    In this episode of Stories of Innovation, Nishant Das and Katrin Calledo dwells upon fostering innovations in a fragile setting and their unique experiences of local eco-system mapping to spotlight Somalia in the global innovation map.  Nishant from Somali Response Innovation Lab shares his experiences around partnering with both traditional and non-traditional actors to stimulate innovation processes in such a challenging yet unique settings. Similarly, Katrin from Start-Up Blink provides insight around the process of mapping different eco-system across the world and how countries and cities are ranked. Both share their stories of unique collaborative efforts around eco-system mapping that resulted Somalia being ranked as the Top 100 Most Innovative Country for Start-Ups debuting at the 95th position in 2019 - providing a completely different picture of Somalia. Nishant Das is Chief of Party at Somali Resilience Program (SomREP), a consortium hosted under World Vision Somalia. By academic background, he is an Industrial Designer with an MBA in Economic Development who transitioned to the humanitarian sector, working across North America, Asia, the Pacific and Africa. He is the former Somali Response Innovation Lab Lead and now spearheads the SomREP, a multi-NGO consortium that hosts Response Innovation Lab in Somalia. Katrin Calledo is the Behavioral Economist with a demonstrated history of working in digital marketing and start-up companies. She is currently working as the Partnerships Manager and Product Manager at StartupBlink, a global organisation that ranks start-up eco-system around the world.     Episode 08: Leading Innovation in Complex Humanitarian Settings | Max Vieille

    In this episode of Stories of Innovation, Max Vieille shares how Response Innovation Lab (RIL) fosters innovation in humanitarian system by working as a matchmaker between response implementers and local innovators.    The episode highlights how RIL is working on to strengthen response-level humanitarian innovation ecosystems to be more inclusive, collaborative, and effective.  Max Vieille currently leads the Global Response Innovation Lab initiative, a collaboration of leading humanitarian NGOs that operates a network of field-based innovation support platforms.    Prior to helping found RIL, he worked in various capacities for a number of humanitarian and development organizations and projects, including AIDSRelief, UNICEF and Save the Children, with extensive experience in the Caribbean and East & Southern Africa. Hamrobazar is visited by around 800,000 unique visitors monthly who use the site for buying and selling purpose. Rohit is the founder of Food Mario, a company that provides platform for home-based chefs to sell food online. He was listed in Forbes 30 Under 30 - Asia - Social Entrepreneurs (2020). Before starting Dolma Impact Fund, Tim Professor Gocher worked led important portfolios at Deloitte Corporate Finance in London, J.P. Morgan in New York, and energy giant E. On. As an entrepreneur, he has started, scaled, and sold two successful technology businesses. He is Honorary Professor of Sustainable Business at The University of Nottingham and Guest Lecturer at London Business School where he gained his MBA.
