    Welcome to the third installment of my new podcast series! Engaging with users of our RealData investment analysis software made me realize that not everyone had a complete understanding of how to evaluate an income property investment, or how key metrics could be used to make good decisions. That led me to publish online articles -- what we would call blog posts today -- on topics that I hoped would help people better understand the investment process. But quite unexpectedly, these articles launched me on new and exciting paths as an author, professor, and online course developer.  Fast forward, and as of this writing more than 175,000 people have read my books, and hundreds of bright, dynamic students have taken (should I say endured?) my classes at Columbia. Hundreds more of have taken my online video course. I guess it's obvious that I enjoy teaching, sharing what I know, and engaging with those who want to make real estate investing part of their path forward.     Getting Started

    I’m sure that folks who have read my books or taken my courses or used RealData’s software know I’m a numbers guy, and focus on metrics and analytics in just about everything I write or post. But I want to do something different today. I hear a lot of folks say they want to know, from a simple and practical point of view, just how can they can get started in real estate investing. I decided that instead of getting all theoretical about this, I would talk about how I got started. There’s certainly no one-size-fits-all way to get into real estate investing, but perhaps what I did way back when – which wasn’t particularly unusual – might serve as an idea-starter for folks who are just thinking about getting into real estate investing.
