Pt 1 | An Unbelievable Testimony of God’s Pursuit (feat. Kay Hiramine)

A Buddhist teenager, a secular leadership conference, and a moment that changed everything — this testimony is one you have to hear to believe. Today we're joined by Kay Hiramine, a man who has spent his life weaving relationships across more than 120 countries, and who carries one of the most remarkable testimonies we've ever heard on this podcast. Kay grew up in a Buddhist home in Southern California, the son of Japanese immigrants, practicing ancestral worship and feeling completely empty inside despite his outward success. By high school he was reading Nietzsche and Camus, sliding into narcissism, and dying on the inside while looking like he had it all together.  Then, at a totally secular leadership conference, something happened that none of the 13 teenagers in that small group cabin could explain. A presence. A voice. A light. And Kay walked out of that room a changed person, even though he didn't yet know the name of who he'd encountered.  What follows is a story of searching, heckling a Volkswagen-mechanic-turned-pastor who refused to give up on him, a Gideons Bible bought for a dollar, and a father who threatened him with a knife rather than let him become a Christian. It's raw, it's honest, and it's one of those stories that reminds you just how far God will go to bring someone home. Identity Over Achievement (feat. Ben Cooley)

What happens when you strip away everything you've achieved, everyone you know, and everything that makes you feel significant — and all that's left is just you and God? For Ben Cooley, that question stopped being theoretical. He lost his job, his platform, and his sense of identity all at once. And what he found on the other side was something he couldn't have found any other way. Ben co-founded an anti-slavery organization that reached 12 countries and helped over 100,000 children. He's a father of ten and one of the most honest guests we've ever had on this podcast. In this conversation he talks about belief — not as a concept but as the foundation everything else is built on. How you articulate it, how you rehearse it, how you celebrate it so it actually shapes your family and your organization instead of just looking good on a wall. He also talks about the lie that high performers are most susceptible to — that God's love is somehow connected to what you produce. And he shares the single most important shift he's made in understanding the difference between being a human doing and a human being. Life is meant to be enjoyed, not endured. This conversation will remind you why — and point you back to the One who made it that way.  Join us online! 🧡 askaboutmyfaith.com  💙 facebook.com/askaboutmyfaith  💜 instagram.com/askaboutmyfaith Wherever you are in your faith journey, you’re welcome here! Pt 1 | Fatherhood Built on Belief (feat. Jeff Zaugg & Ben Cooley)

What if the most important thing you can do as a dad has nothing to do with how much you provide — and everything to do with how present you are?  Father's Day is right around the corner, and we're doing something a little different. Today Dan sits down with two men who are thinking deeply about what it means to be a great dad — Jeff Zaugg, founder of Dad Awesome and father to four girls, and Ben Cooley, co-founder of an anti-slavery organization and father to a blended family of ten kids.  This conversation is honest, funny, and surprisingly profound. Jeff shares what happened when he opened a feedback loop with his daughters and one of them told him something that broke his heart wide open. Ben shares what it looks like to parent out of his own healing — and why the greatest fathering shift he ever made was stopping trying to be the big brother in the parable and starting to be the father on the porch, ready to run.  We talk about the questions that actually get your kids past a simple "fine," why sitting in the hard stuff with your children might be the most powerful thing you ever do, and what it looks like to build rhythms in your home that point your family toward Jesus — even when you're only hitting them 70% of the time.  Heart toward heaven. Heart toward home. That's where it starts.  Join us online! 🧡 askaboutmyfaith.com  💙 facebook.com/askaboutmyfaith  💜 instagram.com/askaboutmyfaith Wherever you are in your faith journey, you’re welcome here! Pt 2 | You Cannot Embrace Your Mission Without Humility (feat. Thann Bennett)

What if the mission God gave you was never meant to build your reputation — but to reflect His? In part two with Thann Bennett, we pick right back up where we left off — and the conversation just keeps getting better. Thann is the author of My Fame, His Fame, co-founder of A Fearless Life ministry, and a man God asked to turn around and face the people instead of the systems.  We talk about humility and why it's not the opposite of strength — it actually requires it. We get into The Equipped, Thann's weekly podcast built around truth and beauty, and why bracketing hard news stories with those two things is one of the most practical ways to stay grounded as a Jesus follower in a noisy world.  Thann also shares the story behind A Fearless Life — a nonprofit he and his wife founded to find and fund a family for every adoption-eligible foster child in America. And he walks us through a moment in a secular foster care training where a neuroscience study about neglected children became one of the clearest pictures he's ever seen of why connection to a Creator isn't optional — it's everything.  And he reminds every listener what their kids and their calling and their corner of the world all have in common: they need someone who knows whose they are, who's willing to be strong and courageous, and who's ready to do the work. Pt 1 | Your Identity Is Not About You — It's About Him (feat. Thann Bennett)

Your identity in Christ was never meant to be about you. And that's actually the most freeing thing you'll ever hear.  That's the message Thann Bennett has been carrying for years — and in this conversation, he unpacks it in a way that is both deeply rooted in Scripture and completely practical for everyday life. Thann is the author of My Fame, His Fame, a speaker, former public policy leader, and co-founder of ministries serving foster and adoptive families. He grew up in a family shaped by a father who broke a generational curse — a man who lost both parents at age eight and chose a different legacy. And Thann has spent his life paying that forward. Today in part one, we dig into identity — what it means to be a child of the King, why the pressure lifts the moment you stop trying to build your own name, and why the mission God calls you to can never be fully walked out without the foundation of belief underneath it. We also talk about obedience — the decade-long argument Thann had with God about writing, the April morning he finally said yes, and the nine weeks that changed everything.  It's not about you. It's about the One who formed you for Himself. And when that truth finally settles in — everything else starts to fall into place.  Join us online! 🧡 askaboutmyfaith.com  💙 facebook.com/askaboutmyfaith  💜 instagram.com/askaboutmyfaith Wherever you are in your faith journey, you’re welcome here!
