The Coaching Clubhouse

Adrian Last

The Coaching Clubhouse is a coaching and personal development podcast about making positive changes in life and work. Hosted by executive leader and ICF-accredited coach Adrian Last, each episode features an informal and engaging conversation exploring the ideas, experiences and questions that can help us understand ourselves better and move forward. Guests include coaches, leaders, entrepreneurs and people with interesting perspectives on personal growth, leadership, careers, mindset, confidence, resilience, habits, wellbeing and change. Some episodes explore coaching techniques and what actually happens in coaching; others use a guest's own story as the starting point for a wider conversation about the challenges many of us experience in our careers and everyday lives. Episodes are deliberately short - usually around 20–30 minutes - with practical ideas and questions you can take away and apply for yourself. And you'll find shorter 2-5 minute clips from each episode that take the key themes and turn them into bitesize 'Extra Shots'. If you're interested in coaching, personal development, leadership or simply having better conversations about life and work, come and join us in The Coaching Clubhouse. Hosted on Acast. How to Stop Drifting Through Life: Discipline, Accountability & Intentional Living | Marty Hofmann

How do you stop drifting through life and become more intentional about the things that really matter? In this episode of The Coaching Clubhouse, Adrian Last talks to Kill Complacency author, entrepreneur and podcaster Marty Hofmann about discipline, accountability, habits and intentional living. Marty believes complacency isn't necessarily about being lazy or doing nothing. You can be incredibly busy, successful and ambitious — while still drifting away from your relationships, health, friendships or the other things that matter to you. They explore the difference between contentment and complacency, how to create better work-life balance, Marty's Seven Fs framework, why fun sometimes needs to be intentional, and how discipline becomes easier when a behaviour becomes part of your identity. From a coaching perspective, they also explore accountability, whether we can recognise our own blind spots, and what to do when we know something in our life needs to change. Marty's practical starting point is refreshingly simple: name it and track it. In this episode: 00:00 Introduction 01:13 What does complacency really look like? 04:02 Providing for your family vs being present 07:32 Complacency vs contentment: what's wrong with being comfortable? 11:25 The Seven Fs: building a more balanced life 14:37 Why fun needs to be intentional 16:16 How to build discipline that lasts 18:19 Accountability: why doing it alone is difficult 21:40 How do you recognise when you're drifting? 24:43 Where Marty still struggles with complacency 26:31 Feeling stuck? Name it and track it 28:08 The promise Marty is making to himself Find out more about Marty, Kill Complacency and his podcast at killcomplacency.com About The Coaching Clubhouse The Coaching Clubhouse is a coaching and personal development podcast hosted by Adrian Last, featuring informal conversations about coaching, leadership, careers, mindset and making positive changes in life and work. Chris Goldson: Coaching confidence and rescuing brilliant people from being beige

What stops brilliant people from speaking up? For many of us, it isn't a lack of knowledge or expertise. It's confidence. More specifically, it's the story we've been telling ourselves for years. In this episode of The Coaching Clubhouse, Adrian Last sits down with presentation coach and qualified coach Chris Goldson to explore how coaching transformed the way he helps leaders, presenters and teams communicate. Chris spent more than 30 years helping organisations tell compelling stories for brands including the BBC, Virgin Radio, Absolute Radio and ITV. But it was learning to coach that fundamentally changed his approach—not by teaching people what to say, but by helping them discover what was stopping them saying it in the first place. Together they discuss: • Why coaching is different from teaching • The surprising reason most presentation nerves have nothing to do with presentation skills • The stories we tell ourselves that hold us back • How great questions create confidence • Why curiosity beats having all the answers • Chris's philosophy of "rescuing brilliant people from being beige." Whether you're leading meetings, pitching ideas, speaking on stage or simply trying to contribute more confidently at work, this conversation is full of practical insights that every leader can apply.
