    By the turn of the century, secular historians and essayists rather than theologians and scientists were largely responsible for keeping alive the public perception of hostility between Christians and evolutionists. During the last third of the nineteenth century, two academicians from New York, John William Draper and Andrew Dickson White, wrote enormously popular but highly biased histories of the relationship between science and religion. Draper described his History of the Conflict Between Religion and Science as "a narrative of the conflict of two contending powers, the expansive force of the human intellect on one side, and the compression arising from traditionary faith and human interests on the other." White opened his Warfare of Science with the sentence, "I propose to present an outline of the great, sacred struggle for the liberty of science — a struggle which has lasted for so many centuries, and which yet continues." He later fleshed out this brief book into a massive, two-volume A History of the Warfare of Science with Theology in Christendom. These books recounted Roman Catholic attacks on Copernican astronomy, including the seventeenth-century trial of Galileo and execution of Giordano Bruno, and fostered the impression that religious critics of Darwinism threatened to rekindle the Inquisition. They neither reported the growing harmony between theologians and evolutionists nor noted that most great physical scientists of the period, from John Dalton and Michael Faraday to Lord Kelvin and James Clerk Maxwell, were devout Christians. Instead, as James Orr complained in The Fundamentals about these books, "Science and Christianity are pitted against each other. Their interests are held to be antagonistic." So wrote Edward Larson in his book Summer for the Gods. It’s a book about the famous 1925 Tennessee Monkey Trial between the formidable atheist lawyer, Clarence Darrow and the highly respected Williams Jenning Bryan who was oddly, a left wing Christian apologist. The public perception of those who know about the trial is that it was a trial over freedom of expression. Whether the Theory of Evolution should be allowed to be taught in public schools in Tennessee. But that wasn’t the point. It wasn’t science against Religion  … oh no, no, no. It was a far more important fight than that. It follows that the mechanism of random mutation and natural selection has not had enough time to generate or search but a minuscule fraction (one ten trillion trillion trillionth, to be precise) of the total number of possible nucleotide base or amino-acid sequences corresponding to a single protein fold. It is therefore overwhelmingly more likely than not that a random mutational search would have failed to produce even one new functional (information-rich) DNA sequence capable of coding for one new protein fold in the entire history of life on earth. Consequently, the hypothesis that such a random search succeeded is more likely to be false than true. And, of course, building new animals would require the creation of many new proteins and protein folds, not just one. It follows that the standard neo-Darwinism mechanism does not provide an adequate explanation for the origin of the genetic information necessary to produce the major innovations in biological form that have arisen in the history of life on earth. wrote Stephen Meyer in his book The Return of the God Hypothesis. So do Darwinism and Neo-Darwinism run out of time to be able to generate even just one new protein fold, let alone a whole new living form like the Nelson QScience Biology textbook tells Australian high school students is the absolutely proven science. Or have the mathematicians, physicists and computer scientists, not the intelligent design scientists, killed off Darwin’s Theory once and for all? Let’s look at the facts.     It’s entirely possible that you‘ve never heard of the French nobleman, Alexis de Tocqueville. The editors of the 2000 edition of Alexis’s famous book, Democracy in America, Harvey C Mansfield and Delba Winthrop, wrote: Alexis de Tocqueville was born on July 29, 1805, and died in his fifty-fourth year on April 16, 1859: not a long life, and one often afflicted with ill health. He was born a French aristocrat and lived as one; and he was also a liberal who both rejected the old regime of aristocracy and doubted the revolution that overturned it. An aristocratic liberal he was, and if we knew everything contained in that difficult combination, we could stop here. But since we do not, the formula will serve as a beginning. In thought as in life Tocqueville always held to freedom and to nobility, and his question, his concern was how to keep them together. Tocqueville was born into a very old Norman family named Clérel; one of his ancestors had fought in the company of William the Conqueror at the Battle of Hastings. Through marriage, negotiation and action at law, the Clérels acquired the fief of Tocqueville in Normandy, and in 1661 took that name. Alexis's grandfather was a chevalier; his father Hervé became a count in 1820. In 1793 Henré had married the granddaughter of Malesherbes, a great figure late in the Old Regime: botanist, correspondent of Jean-Jacques Rousseau, both minister and critic of Louis XVI, and courageous defender of the king at his trial in 1792-1793. Malesherbes and Hervé de Tocqueville were imprisoned during the Terror, the former guillotined together with a sister, a daughter, a son-in-law, and a granddaughter and her husband. Hervé was spared and released in 1794, his hair having turned snow white at the age of twenty-two. The editors wrote quite simply: “Democracy in America” is at once the best book ever written on democracy and the best book ever written on America. Part of what Tocqueville wrote is vitally important in explaining the crisis in science today, In particular in what passes as the science of Darwin’s Theory of The Origin of Species.     A 1999 booklet published by the National Academy describes Darwin's finches as "a particularly compelling example" of the origin of species. The booklet goes on to explain how the Grants and their colleagues showed "that a single year of drought on the islands can drive evolutionary changes in the finches," and that "if droughts occur about once every 10 years on the islands, a new species of finch might arise in only about 200 years." Jonathon Wells wrote in Icons of Evolution. This was surely dramatic vindication of Darwin’s Theory of Evolution. The National Academy of Sciences is America's premier science organization, commissioned by Congress in 1863 to advise the government on scientific matters.     Natural selection. Mutations. These are Darwin’s lynch pins. Without them working major changes to produce new species his Theory of Evolution would be worthless. Science tells us they don’t work. It tells us this from studying Darwin’s model for change. Selective breeding. Scientists know that there’s a limit to the number of changes that can be made to a species using selective breeding. John Lennox, in his book God’s Undertaker wrote: … the capacity for variation in the gene pool seems to run out quite early on in the process, a phenomenon called genetic homeostasis. There appears to be a barrier beyond which selective breeding will not pass because of the onset of sterility or exhaustion of genetic variability. If there are limits even to the amount of variation the most skilled breeders can achieve, the clear implication is that natural selection is likely to achieve very much less. It is not surprising that he argued that microevolution could not bear the weight that is often put upon it. Where does that lead us in the pursuit for truth in Darwin’s Theory of Evolution? Where does it leave our kids who are being taught Darwin’s Theory if it’s not true?     High school students in Australia are taught this in their biology textbooks. The one I’m using for these programmes is the textbook Nelson QScience Biology, Units 3 and 4 by Pam Borger and others. This is what it teaches: All species that have ever lived are related by descent. The theory of evolution explains the mechanisms that cause species to change over time. The characteristics of a species may change through microevolution in a short time frame. These changes are caused by natural selection some individuals in a population are better suited to the environment than others. Macroevolution is a result of major evolutionary changes over an extended time scale. As microevolutionary changes accumulate, new species of organisms arise. This quote is an unquestioning acceptance of Darwin’s Theory of Evolution, that every living thing on this planet came from the first, minute, simple, living thing. Is that science or is it a philosophical world view which hasn’t been proven? Let me explore that now.     On 6 August 2025, the Greenbot website posted this headline:   Grok spicy mode creates nude Taylor Swift videos from concert prompts.   The story read: Grok’s new “spicy mode” automatically generated explicit videos of Taylor Swift when a reporter asked for basic concert images, exposing major safety gaps in Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence … tool. The incident occurred within hours of Grok’s Imagine launch on August 4. Reporter Jess Weatherbed discovered the problem during her first test of the new video feature. Weatherbed requested images of “Taylor Swift celebrating Coachella with the boys.” Grok produced over 30 photos, several showing Swift in revealing clothes. When she selected the “spicy” mode to convert one image into video, the AI created footage of Swift removing her dress and dancing nearly nude. “The video promptly had Swift tear off her clothes and begin dancing in a thong for a largely indifferent AI-generated crowd,” Weatherbed wrote for The Verge. The spicy mode is one of four video options available to paying subscribers. Users can pick Custom, Normal, Fun, or Spicy settings to animate their images in 15 seconds. That was easy to do. Generating fake photographs in the 1950s and later in the service of promoting Charles Darwin and his theory, until around 2025 wasn’t so easy, but it was done for a high purpose –proving that Darwin’s Theory of Evolution was science. There was plenty of evidence that plants and animals vary, and that they struggle for survival. It was reasonable to conclude, by analogy with domestic breeding, that organisms with the most advantageous variations would survive and pass them on to their offspring.
