The Mirror Within | Facing You Truth, Self-Worth & The Choices That Shapes You.

Send us Fan Mail Why is it sometimes so difficult to face the truth about ourselves? In this episode of the Life’s Deceit Podcast, Jen sits down with Dr. Stephen Paul Edwards for an honest and thought-provoking conversation about self-worth, personal responsibility, fear, and the choices that shape who we become. We often spend so much time focusing on our circumstances, the people around us, and the things that have happened to us that we forget to look within. Sometimes, the hardest truths to confront are the ones we carry about ourselves. Fear, perfectionism, and the desire to appear strong or successful can keep us from acknowledging where we are struggling and what needs to change. Dr. Stephen Paul Edwards explores the importance of looking honestly at ourselves, questioning the beliefs we hold, and recognizing the role our choices play in our personal growth. Together, Jen and Dr. Edwards unpack why we sometimes place others on pedestals, how our perceptions of self-worth influence our lives, and why authenticity matters more than trying to appear as though we have everything figured out. This conversation invites you to look beyond the surface, take ownership of your choices, and consider what becomes possible when you stop avoiding the mirror within. In this episode, we explore: Why facing yourself can be one of the hardest parts of personal growth The difference between making excuses and taking responsibility for your choices How fear can keep you from discovering who you truly are The connection between self-worth, perfectionism, and the need for validation Why placing others on pedestals can affect how you see yourself The importance of authenticity and being honest about your struggles How self-awareness can become a starting point for meaningful change Season 4 of Life’s Deceit, Legacy by Choice, explores what it means to take an active role in shaping your life story rather than allowing old patterns, limiting beliefs, or past experiences to define your future. Because growth begins when we are willing to look within. And the choices we make today help shape the legacy we leave tomorrow. This is Part 1 of the conversation. I Survived Myself Until I Found My Way HOME. Dr. Jen Hewson

Send us Fan Mail What happens when you spend years surviving a life you were never meant to stay trapped inside? In this deeply personal episode of Life’s Deceit™, I sit down with Dr. Jen Hewson, author of Gut Instincts: Listening to the Gut — A Journey of Breaking, Healing, and Returning Home to God, for a conversation about trauma, survival, forgiveness, faith, and finding your way back to yourself. Dr. Jen takes us back to the little girl who learned far too early what it felt like to be unseen and unwanted. She opens up about growing up around alcoholism and abuse, running away as a teenager, searching for love and belonging, and the years she spent numbing what she had never learned how to heal. But this conversation is not only about what happened to her. It is about what happened inside of her because of it. We talk about the moment survival stops protecting you and starts imprisoning you. We unpack radical forgiveness, the emotions we bury, the ways unresolved pain can affect how we experience our bodies, and why healing sometimes requires us to revisit the parts of ourselves we thought we had already moved beyond. Dr. Jen also shares how her relationship with God transformed her understanding of her past, her mother, forgiveness, and ultimately herself. Her journey reminds us that healing is not a destination. There can always be another layer, another truth, another part of ourselves asking to be seen. This episode asks a difficult question: How much of the life you are living today was built by the version of you who was simply trying to survive yesterday? This is a conversation about breaking, healing, forgiving, becoming, and choosing what gets carried forward. Because sometimes finding your way home has nothing to do with a place. Sometimes, home is the person you were always meant to become. ASSAULTED IN UNIFORM | 20 YEARS LATER, SHE FOUND HER POWER | SN4 Episode29

Send us Fan Mail At just 19 years old, Simone Swartz joined the military with dreams, purpose and a desire to serve. Her experience would take her through military sexual assault, harassment, isolation and years of living with PTSD before she fully understood what she was experiencing. In this powerful episode of Life’s Deceit™ Podcast, Simone shares her story with honesty and vulnerability. We talk about the assault, what happened afterward, the impact of trauma, shame, addiction, finding the right support, faith, service dogs and the decision to finally use her voice. Simone is now a veteran, author and mental health advocate. Through her book PTSD and What Helped Me and her advocacy for sexual assault survivors and service dogs, she is helping others understand that PTSD is treatable and that healing is possible. This conversation is difficult at times, but it is also a story about resilience, purpose and reclaiming the power that was there all along. Because sometimes legacy isn’t what happened to you. It’s what you choose to build after it.
