Prior to obtaining her medical degree, she completed her degree in pharmacy and practiced as a community pharmacist while in medical school. Outside of residency, Sara enjoys spending time with family and friends, being outdoors, and dreaming of one day having her own outdoor brick oven to bake bread in. Dr. Bailey is an anesthesiologist and associate professor at Dalhousie University. He completed undergraduate training and medical school at the University of Saskatchewan before completing his anesthesia residency, masters in epidemiology and regional anesthesia fellowship at Dalhousie University. His clinical and research interests include acute pain, regional anesthesia, and healthcare in austere settings. Dr. Bailey is the Medical Director for Global Health and Community Engagement in the Department of Anesthesia and the Rwanda Lead for the Canadian Anesthesiologists’ Society International Education Foundation (CASIEF). He is a Vital Anaesthesia Simulation Training (VAST) instructor and co-author of VAST Wellbeing. His microgravity research has been featured on CBC News, CBC Information Morning, and the "Block it like it’s hot" podcast. He was the recipient of the Su Ganapathy Regional Anesthesia Research Award in 2025. He has received the Resident Advocate of the Year Award in 2020, the Clinical Teacher of the Year Award in 2021, and the Daily Evaluation Certificate of Appreciation in 2022. He subsequently attended medical school and Orthopaedic Surgery residency, at the University of Toronto. Join us for grand rounds this week where Dr. Martin Pusic, a Harvard Medical School professor, pediatric emergency medicine physician at the Boston Children's Hospital, and Scholar in Residence at the Brigham Education Institute, discusses AI in the context of medical education. Dr. Pusic is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics and Emergency Medicine in the Harvard Medical School, a practicing Pediatric Emergency Medicine physician at the Boston Children’s Hospital, and Scholar in Residence at the Brigham Education Institute. He recently became Director of the Research and Education Foundation at the American Board of Medical Specialties where he encourages scholarly approaches to certification of medical expertise. He is also a core faculty member of the Harvard Macy Institute where he teaches on the intersection of educational technology and Health Professions Education. He is a scholar in the field of medical expertise with his research focusing on the collection and analysis of learning analytic data to nurture and certify expertise development across healthcare specialties. Dr. Pusic obtained his medical degree from the University of British Columbia, a fellowship in pediatric emergency medicine at McGill, and his Masters (Informatics) and PhD (Human Cognition) from Columbia University. He is a Past President of the Society of Directors of Research in Medical Education, Chair of the American Heart Association’s Education Science & Programs Subcommittee and has been Co-Chair of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Medical Education Research Grant Committee. There is a new wave of innovation in Health Professions Education. Artificial intelligence, precision education, and learning analytics are terms that have come to the vanguard recently. In this keynote, we will explore what its implications are for Health Professions Education. We will discuss data-driven approaches to individualizing education. And the implications for the Educator-Learner alliance. This, of course, has not been sorted out! But what we can do is draw on our experience of adapting to technology in the past to establish some useful approaches.
