    Have You Tried Liking Sports?

    UConn men’s basketball beat Butler and Georgetown after losing to St. John’s, but it’s still not good enough, according to some Husky fans. If you’ve been tracking the discourse after UConn’s 79-75 win over Georgetown on Saturday, the environment at games is bad, the team isn’t great enough, and a laundry list of other complaints follows. Here at The UConn Fast Break Podcast, we refuse to give in to this negativity. This is already one of the program’s most successful seasons and part of a four-year run of excellence that UConn has never seen, if it can avoid an NCAA Tournament upset. The assembled squad is pretty good, only two years removed from consecutive titles, during a time when everything we know about team-building is evolving. In this episode, we spend about 45 minutes breaking down the St. John’s, Butler, and Georgetown performances and the highlights and concerns stewing on the court. Then we indulge in some commentary on the online discourse surrounding this year’s team, including attendance, fan fervor, and managing expectations. The Huskies have $2 Beer Night vs. Creighton on Wednesday before a big road date with Villanova on Saturday. Then they host St. John’s and Seton Hall before ending the season at Marquette, and then we have the Big East Tournament. Great times ahead! This is a public episode.     As Big East play ramps up, UConn has survived a few close calls. In this episode, we discuss the Providence and Seton Hall games, and also interview Andy Katz! The national college hoops reporter was on the sidelines for the broadcast of the Huskies’ win over Seton Hall and shared his thoughts on their season thus far. You can also catch the Katz interview on our YouTube channel. Editor’s Note: This podcast was originally scheduled to be released before the Georgetown game, but technical issues got in the way. We cut our preview of that matchup from the episode, but still ran through the highs and lows of two interesting games and ended with an early look at Villanova.     It's Crowded Up Here

    The Huskies are 9-1 ahead of their final non-conference game. They’ve racked up four wins over ranked opponents, representing some of the top squads in the nation, with their lone loss coming by four points to the No. 1 team in the country at home, with two key players out. Those two players are back, or close, and we’re just starting to see what this Husky team can be. Their stars led the way over the Gators in MSG on Tuesday night, while new guys like Braylon Mullins, Eric Reibe, and Malachi Smith showed off what they bring to the table. It’s an exciting prospect to know that Dan Hurley has the Huskies rolling once again. This year, though, the competition around the country may be deeper at the top.
