BONUS: The Sacred Day That Changed Everything, with Zadra Rose Ibañez

Send us Fan Mail Early in her career, Zadra Rose Ibañez asked for one day off. October 31st. Samhain, the Celtic New Year, and the day that mattered most to her. She was told no. Then she woke up sick and went into the office anyway. That small moment became the doorway to trusting her intuition, speaking up in leadership, and eventually leaving an 18-year nonprofit career to become a coach. In this special bonus episode, released on Samhain itself, Cynthia and Zadra explore how honouring one sacred day grew into a life of self-trust. They talk about why someone else's answer can feel safer than our own, the quiet ways we outsource our choices, and what it means to stop being one person at work and another at home. If you've spent years being who everyone else needs you to be, Zadra's question will stay with you: You know what you want. Will you let yourself have it? About Zadra Zadra Rose Ibañez is a mindset coach, speaker, and host of Keep Going with Zadra, a podcast about honouring your truest self. After starting her career in finance and spending 18 years in nonprofit gifted education, she became a coach. She now helps sustainability professionals, nonprofit leaders, and mission-driven people calmly save the world. What you'll take away Life-changing moments are usually small. One sick day taught Zadra she hadn't honoured what she needed. The thing isn't the point. Protecting Samhain was really practice in becoming someone who honours what's sacred to her.Intuition isn't illogical. Non-language doesn't mean non-logic.Code-switching costs energy. "I was myself in both places, but I wasn't my full self in any place."We outsource our authority. Someone else's answer feels safer because if they're wrong, it isn't our fault.A misstep isn't a verdict on you. When something doesn't land, ask: is it true that this means something about me?You can invent your certainty. Zadra made up her runway before leaping, then went to work making it true.Practices to try this week Set a daily alarm. When it goes off, say: "I call all parts of myself back to myself."Practise listening to your intuition when you don't need it, so it's there when you do.Decide the small things. The next time someone asks what you want for dinner, answer.Speak up in your next meeting as an experiment. Decide in advance it doesn't mean anything about you.Don't make someone else responsible for your decision. Say what you actually want.Take a walk with a voice memo, or open a journal, and ask: Where is only part of me allowed to the party? When you notice the times you didn't act, meet them with compassion, not criticism.Quote mentioned in the episode The quote Zadra reaches for about the bud is usually attributed to Anaïs Nin: "And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom." E198: Who Are You Beyond What You Do? Learning to See Your Own Worth

Send us Fan Mail If you can list everyone else’s strengths in seconds but freeze when someone names yours, you’re not broken, you’re patterned. I’m Cynthia Jamieson, and I’m pulling apart the quiet system so many of us live inside: measuring self-worth by output, usefulness, titles, and being the person everyone counts on. I share what decades in leadership and human resources taught me about identity and work, and I tell a personal story about my dad that still has me pause. When a role disappears, what happens to the way we see ourselves? We talk about how fear can run the show from backstage like a trapdoor, why “capable” can turn into captivity, and how overworking, people-pleasing, undercharging, and staying too long are often symptoms of one deeper belief: I have to earn my value. Then we get practical. I connect self-worth and self-trust, and I offer simple practices you can try this week: noticing where you dismiss yourself, asking “Who am I beyond what I do?”, borrowing trusted people’s eyes, and building evidence you can return to when doubt gets loud. I'm also inviting you to my small-group beta coaching space, The Unseen Path, created for highly capable people who sense a shift and want support seeing themselves clearly. E197: Capability Is Not Consent: What If the Lesson Isn’t to Keep Going?

Send us Fan Mail What if the lesson inside failure isn’t always to try harder? What if sometimes the lesson is that you’re complete? I recorded this episode on Canadian Thanksgiving, and in it I explore the difference between being capable of continuing and actually consenting to what continuing requires. One of my coaches, Stacey Boehman, inspired it with her Failure Gold episode. I look at what happens when highly capable people treat everything they can carry as something they should carry, and how to tell whether a choice to stay or go comes from self-trust or self-abandonment. In this episode, I share: Why gratitude is not an obligation to continueThe hidden “rules” I noticed after two weeks offline in Valencia and LisbonWhen capability becomes captivity, and when resilience disguises self-abandonmentThree anonymized coaching moments, including “I don’t think it’s anxiety. I think I’m exhausted.”External scorecards vs. internal scorecardsAn expanded look at The Decision Before the Decision: floor, exposure, runway, and exitHow I apply these four boundaries to this podcastQuestions to sit with when something hasn’t worked the way you hopedResources I mentioned Stacey Boehman, Failure GoldEpisode 189, The Decision Before the Decision: The Unseen Path The Unseen Path is my 12-week group experience for high-integrity leaders who can feel that something is complete, or becoming complete, even without a plan for what comes next. E196: How To Tell If Fear Signals Danger Or Growth

Send us Fan Mail Fear can sound like wisdom, especially when you’re competent, responsible, and used to holding it together. But fear isn’t automatically a red light and it also isn’t proof you should jump. I’m Cynthia, and I’m sharing the framework I use when I’m standing at a decision point myself: how to tell when fear is pointing to danger, when it’s revealing a real constraint, and when it’s simply the discomfort of doing something new. If you’re weighing a career change, a new leadership role, a boundary, a difficult conversation, or a creative idea you haven’t said out loud yet, this will help you hear yourself more clearly.  We talk about why high performers are so skilled at making fear sound “responsible” and how capability can quietly become captivity. I’ll walk you through practical examples, including financial fear for entrepreneurs and employees, and the difference between talking yourself out of something meaningful and talking yourself into something costly because you think courage always means yes. Then we build a simple risk container with four questions: what must I protect, what am I willing to risk, how long am I willing to try, and how will I know what to do next.  You’ll also learn PACT, my grounding practice for the moment fear spikes: Pause, Awareness, Choice, Trust. It’s not a formula that decides for you. It’s a way to stay connected to yourself so you can take the next honest step without demanding certainty. I also share details on my Unseen Path 12-week beta group for people at a threshold who want to stop circling the same questions alone.  If this helped, subscribe, share it with someone who’s at an edge, and leave a review so more people can find the show. E195: Who Are You When You Stop Producing

Send us Fan Mail A podcast episode arriving a week late shouldn’t feel like a moral failure, but for many of us it does, and that’s the clue. We catch the reflex that kicks in when we miss a beat: the sudden need to justify, over-explain, and prove we had a “good enough” reason. From there, we open up a bigger conversation about self-trust, rest, and the invisible rules that convince high integrity leaders that consistency is the same thing as worth. We also name the endurance trap: the belief that because you can carry something, you should. It’s not just overwork, it’s over-identifying with being helpful, reliable, and available until your capability turns into an obligation. We talk about the vulnerable quiet that can follow major milestones, the identity questions that surface when you stop producing, and why “capability is not consent” might be the most freeing boundary sentence you practise this year. Along the way, we explore presence as a way of living, not a reward you earn after your to-do list is done. If you’re craving change but don’t have a map, we unpack the space between impulsively blowing up your life and silently enduring what no longer fits: curiosity, experimentation, and one honest step at a time. You’ll also hear about Porch Light, a free, confidential, unrecorded gathering inside the Be the Light community, and The Unseen Path, a 12-week group experience designed to help you live your way toward clarity. E194: Do You Know How to Belong Without Being Useful?

Send us Fan Mail Episode 194: Do You Know How to Belong Without Being Useful? What is it costing you to have nowhere in your life where you are not required to be useful? In this episode of Uncharted & Unfiltered: A Journey Back to You, Cynthia explores why highly capable leaders often struggle to pause, protect their capacity, and act on what they already know. Through a personal decision to walk instead of run and two anonymized coaching conversations, she reveals why the block is not always a lack of information. Sometimes, it is a lack of space, language, safety, or permission. You’ll hear: Why changing your mind can be evidence that you are finally listeningHow the same pause can feel luxurious, unfamiliar, or unsafeWhy capable leaders interpret systemic overload as personal failureHow usefulness becomes the “rent” we believe we owe for belongingWhy insight alone cannot change what the body learned through experienceWhat it means to contribute without disappearingYour capability is not the problem. The goal is not to become less caring, generous, or useful. It is to become free enough to choose when, where, why, and for whom you use your gifts. E192: Stop Digging Up The Roots

Send us Fan Mail You know the moment: you set a boundary, send the email, start the hard conversation, then your brain demands immediate proof that it worked. You refresh the inbox, reread texts for tone, scan someone’s mood, and call it “being responsible” while your body feels anything but calm. We’re naming that pattern for what it is: digging up the roots before anything has time to grow. I share a recent coaching story that starts with an employee engagement survey and ends somewhere much deeper. The real issue is not the survey results, it is the hidden belief that we must manage other people’s feelings and protect ourselves from disappointment. From there, we break down one of the most useful distinctions in leadership development and self-trust: care versus control. Care prepares the soil by creating clarity, honesty, compassion, and safety. Control tries to force tomatoes to grow by chasing certainty and needing everyone to leave feeling a specific way. Then we shift into a cleaner, steadier way to lead: agency over responsibility. Agency keeps your focus on what you can control, your integrity, your listening, your contribution, and helps you release what was never yours to hold, like someone else’s reaction or choice. You’ll leave with a simple practice to build the muscle of trust: a 48-hour no-checking window that reduces anxiety, strengthens boundaries, and makes your leadership feel grounded. If this hits home, subscribe, share the episode with a friend who overchecks like you do, and leave a review so more people can find the path from control to self-trust.
