#59 - Dr. Kenny Tello - Navigating Change: How to Face the Challenge Through Your Mindset and Choices

This month’s episode of the Orlando Health Well-Being Podcast features Dr. Kenny Tello, Corporate Director of Team Member Well-Being, and Kayla Watson, Well-Being Coach, as they explore how to navigate life’s changes. You’ll learn about different types of change, what makes change so challenging, areas that may be keeping you stuck, and small choices you can make to help you adapt and thrive.   If you enjoyed this episode, you may also enjoy #58 Taking Ownership of HOW You Show Up for Yourself and Others in High-Stress Situations or #39 Creating Lasting Change. Guiding Questions: 1. In this episode, Kenny mentioned that most change can be categorized into two buckets: chosen change and happening change. What do you notice about yourself when you encounter these different types of change? 2. Regardless of the type of change you may be facing, you always have a choice -- you can choose how you will respond to the change. What are some small choices you can make to support your well-being, even in the midst of change? 3. Kayla mentioned that loosening your grip and living life with a mindset of "open hands" can help you navigate change. Practically speaking, how can you apply this mindset to your circumstances? Are there some things that you can let go of right now? 4. At times, the outcome of change may not be what's most important, but rather who you are becoming in the process. In this season of change, who do you want to become?

This episode features Bob Levesque, LCSW,  Dorcas Cepeda, LMHC, Jasmine Metellus, LMHC, and Maggy Mead, LMHC, who are psychotherapists within the Team Member Assistance Program at Orlando Health.  This panel explores the concept of connection and the vital role it plays in all relationships, especially in families.  Learn what connection is, how to strengthen family relationships no matter the type of family, and what can encourage the learning of the soft skills of cooperation, discipline, and working together that translate to the work space. If you enjoyed this episode, you may also want to check out episode #26 Bob Levesque - Improving our Connections, #32 Dorcas Cepeda - Healthy Boundaries, or #36 Jasmine Metellus - Self-Care. Guiding Questions: 1. Our panel highlighted the importance of psychological safety within families and how daily habits such as sharing dinner together implies safety.   What are some daily habits that come to mind that build psychological safety with family members? 2. Family connections are often built from small bits of interactions.  What are some opportunities throughout the week that can create a micro-connection of 5-10 minutes with a family member?  3. Our panel suggested asking open-ended questions such as “Can you give me a high point and a low point of your day?”  Instead of asking a ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ question of your child, what open-ended question could you ask to start a conversation?
