Why Marriages Fail: Divorce, Faith, Children & Starting Over | Barbara Umuhoza

Why do marriages fail, and can you truly rebuild your life after divorce?  This week on The Long Form Podcast, Barbara Umuhoza, CEO of the Rwanda Bar Association, Christian leader at Zion Temple, author and mother of two boys, shares her deeply personal experience of divorce after ten years of marriage.  Drawing from her book, The Comeback: Surviving Divorce & Thriving After, Barbara discusses heartbreak, shame, faith, single motherhood, choosing the right spouse, and the lessons she wishes she had understood before marriage. We explore Rwanda's rising divorce cases, the emotional impact of separation on children, the pressures of divorce within Christian communities, and whether unhappy couples should stay together or walk away.  Would Barbara ever marry again? Can divorced parents raise children who still believe in marriage? And what happens when the God you prayed to doesn't save the marriage you fought to keep? What is really happening in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, and how much of what we hear about the Congo war reflects the reality on the ground?  This week on The Long Form Podcast, Dr. Bojana Coulibaly, a researcher in critical discourse and conflict analysis at the Kivu Research Institute in Goma, joins us for a conversation about AFC/M23, Rwanda, and the competing narratives shaping international understanding of the conflict.  Drawing on her visits to M23-controlled territory, including Goma and recruitment centres, Dr. Coulibaly discusses daily life under rebel control, why young people join armed movements, the role of women in AFC/M23, and the importance of Rubaya's mineral resources.  We also examine propaganda, the language of war, the relationship between Rwanda and the DRC, and the political narratives surrounding the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. Who controls the story of the Congo war, and what are we missing?
