People of Pearland - Season 3, Episode 12 - Nicholas Palomo

Our next People of Pearland episode features Nicholas Palomo, Training Academy Director for the Pearland Police Department. He shares how a single call in 2020 shifted his path from motorcycle officer to full‑time trainer — a role he now pours his heart into. Palomo gives an inside look at why having our own academy matters, how cadets are shaped over nearly seven months, and what success looks like once they hit the field. He also talks about balancing teaching with being a dedicated dad, often bringing his daughter along for the journey.

People of Pearland - Season 3, Episode 9 - Chief Johnny Spires

"Both of them were very service-oriented. Don’t turn people away. Help everybody you can." That’s the legacy Johnny Spires was born into. Raised by young parents-- a father often overseas on Navy duty and a mother raising three young kids and helping her community til her last day-- Johnny was living a life of service long before he wore a Pearland Police badge. And now after 36 years of service to the City of Pearland, Pearland Police Chief Johnny Spires has retired.  But just before his retirement, Johnny joined us on the People of Pearland Podcast to reflect on his journey, sharing stories of his childhood, finding his home in Pearland and discovering his calling in a single criminal justice class and a starting wage of $10.50 an hour. Join us as we celebrate the career, leadership, and lasting impact of Chief Johnny Spires — and thank him for 36 years of service to Pearland. Listen here: pearlandtx.gov/popp
