Ep. 89 | The Truth About Gear Reviews with Sean Curtis

This week on the Tejas Hunt Club Podcast, Meagan sits down with Sean Curtis, Content Producer and Lead Review Analyst for Pew Pew Tactical. Sean spent 22 and a half years in Colorado law enforcement, going from reserve deputy to patrol commander before moving to a district attorney's office as an investigator. Along the way he was an EMT, an assistant fire marshal on a wildland team, and ran search and rescue, which is where a lot of his outdoor knowledge comes from. He started writing on nights and weekends, went full time with Pew Pew Tactical in 2021, and moved his family to Texas to do it. With Tejas Hunt Club now holding our FFL/SOT, we wanted to bring in people who know firearms and gear from the inside. Sean talks about what search and rescue taught him about preparedness, why a lighter in your pocket has saved more hunters than a pack full of gear, and how Pew Pew Tactical actually approaches product reviews. We also get into the realities of building firearms content on YouTube, the affiliate side of the business, and where the hunting market fits into all of it. In this episode, we cover: Sean's path from law enforcement and search and rescue into the outdoor media industryPreparedness lessons from years of search and rescue calls, and the small kit that makes the differenceHow Pew Pew Tactical selects, tests, and reviews firearms, and why they don't run negative reviewsBuilding firearms content on YouTube and the challenges the platform createsAffiliate marketing in the gun industry and why POMA relationships matterBolt guns, AR hunting calibers, and the rifle Sean built himself This one goes past gear reviews. It's about staying ready, doing the work honestly, and building something real in a crowded industry. 📍 Guest: Sean Curtis, Content Producer and Lead Review Analyst, Pew Pew Tactical 🎯 Connected at: POMA Summit 🦌 Focus: Firearms reviews, preparedness, outdoor media and affiliate marketing 👇 Comment below: What's the one thing you always keep in your pocket in the field? 💬 LIKE, COMMENT, and SUBSCRIBE for more hunting stories, conservation conversations, and real outdoor life from Tejas Hunt Club. 🔗 Learn More About Pew Pew Tactical: Website: https://www.pewpewtactical.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/pewpewtactical/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@PewPewTactical 🌐 Tejas Hunt Club: https://tejashuntclub.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/tejashuntclub/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/barmcmedia/ #PewPewTactical #FirearmsReview #Preparedness #OutdoorIndustry #POMASummit #GetOutside #HuntingPodcast #TejasHuntClub #BuildTheTradition

Ep. 87 | Empowering Women in the Field with Próis Hunting Apparel

This week on the Tejas Hunt Club Podcast, we sit down with Jennifer Dums, Wisconsin/Minnesota Regional Coordinator and Scheels representative for Próis Hunting and Field Apparel. Recorded on location at the POMA Summit, this conversation dives into the world of women's hunting gear and the community built around it. Próis has spent years designing high-performance apparel specifically for women who hunt, and Jennifer's role puts her right at the intersection of the brand, its retail partners, and the women who wear the gear in the field. Jennifer talks about what it means to represent a brand built for women, by women, in an industry that hasn't always designed with them in mind. From working the floor at Scheels to organizing women's hunts across her region, she's focused on getting more women into the field and making sure they have gear that actually fits and performs. Conversations like this one, happening at industry events like the POMA Summit, are part of what keeps that momentum going. In this episode, we cover: Jennifer's role as Próis regional coordinator and Scheels repWhat sets Próis apart as a women's-specific hunting apparel brandBuilding relationships between the brand, retailers, and the women who huntWhat it's like connecting business and community at events like the POMA SummitThis is about more than gear. Ep. 85 | Concealed Carry Isn’t just a Checkbox — Todd Springer of Citizen Defense

Brandon sits down with Todd Springer, founder of Citizen Defense out of College Station, TX,  to talk about what real concealed carry preparedness actually looks like — and why a permit alone isn’t enough. We get into: Why only about 1% of concealed carriers ever pursue training beyond the state minimum, and what that gap actually costs you in a real situationThe responsibility that comes with carrying a firearm and the mindset shift from “I have a permit” to “I’m actually prepared”Citizen Defense’s performance-based coaching approach — learning to read what your firearm is telling you, diagnose mistakes in real time, and correct them on your own instead of just repeating drillsBuilding practical skills, situational awareness, legal knowledge, and mental preparedness as one complete package, not separate boxes to checkTodd’s background as a Rangemaster-certified instructor, NRA Certified CCW and pistol instructor, and Texas LTC instructor, plus his competition experience in USPSA and Steel ChallengeWhy Citizen Defense’s mission comes down to one idea: stronger individuals build a stronger, safer communityIf you carry — or you’re on the fence about getting more training — this is the episode that reframes training as an ongoing commitment, not a one-and-done box to check Guest/Brand mention log: Todd Springer (founder/instructor, guest) — Citizen Defense Show Links: Citizen Defense website: citizendefense.netCitizen Defense Instagram: instagram.com/citizen_defense • • Citizen Defense YouTube: youtube.com/channel/UCDWRAhdM9i2xl8T4ZFuwD8g
