    Episode 24: C.R.E.A.M.

Today Courtney, Devin, and Kelly serve up some wisdom on our tumultuous love affair with money. Money and friendships - are we getting better at talking about cash or are we still awkwardly silent? Do you share your salary with friends? We call b******t on the idea that talking about money is rude. In fact, part of what makes our friendship so great is that we can, do and CELEBRATE money with each other. Money is like that rollercoaster you didn't ask to ride, and we're here to dissect your financial feels. On a scale of 1 to 10, how's your emotional bank account? Are you a money avoider, worshiper, vigilant saver, or a status chaser? We share where we fall on that scale and what type of money archetypes we identify with. Speaking of earnings, did you know women are still earning 77 cents for every dollar those White men snatch up? Yeah, it's 2023, and we're still playing catch-up. How's that "don't discuss salary or money" rule working out for women and minorities? Spoiler alert: not great. Time to break some glass ceilings and make some noise. And when it comes to relationships, it’s another level of cash management. Are you a saver? Is your partner a spender? We've all been there. We all value making our OWN money. Ever had to rely on your partner's income? So, what makes your vagina hurt the most about women and money? Dive into this emotional rollercoaster, ladies. It's a wild ride, but together, we might just conquer it. Episode 23: Old School Hours vs. New Parent Work Schedules

In this episode, we’re talking about the hard reality of American school schedules and why it sucks, especially for working parents. Imagine the sigh of relief from working parents if school and work schedules actually played nice together? Let's start by taking a little trip down memory lane. Public schooling in the USA has been around for a hot minute, just over a century, to be precise. But when it comes to desegregation, well, that took its sweet time – a whole 60 years! Can you believe it? We're looking at you, 19th-century school reformers, for the birth of that '9 to 5' workday concept. Apparently, they thought parents had zero kids to look after during those hours. What were they smoking? Fast forward to today, and American students are spending a solid six and a half hours in school, five days a week. But here's the kicker – two-thirds of moms are now juggling full-time jobs. And fewer than half of public schools offer any kind of after-school programs. Say what? Now, let's jet-set internationally. In Finland, those lucky elementary students get a whopping 75 minutes of recess, while our American kiddos have to make do with a measly 27 minutes. The Finnish philosophy? Kids won't learn if they don't play, even if it's colder than a polar bear's toenails. Across the pond in the UK, high schools are kicking off later in the day. One London school even said, "Screw it," and started at 10 a.m. because research says students learn better when they're not sleepwalking. But hold onto your hats – the sleep saga continues in the good ol' U.S. of A. with early school start times that are about as compatible with teenagers' biological clocks as a cat at a dog show. And let's not even talk about the colossal elephant in the room – childcare costs. They've become a financial heavyweight for American families, sometimes even outstripping the cost of college tuition. Yikes! Now, what's the remedy, you ask? We've got some ideas. Picture schools getting cozy with the community, creating a school day that's longer and happier than a kid in a candy store. We're talking peer-to-peer learning, epic lunch breaks, field trips, and teachers clocking in at different times. Listen as we discuss our personal situations with our kids and how we’re making it all work with the current state of affairs. But we also want to hear from you: How's your kid's school schedule looking nowadays? Can you picture a 5 p.m. school day? It's like finding a unicorn, right? And what if we flipped the script on the traditional workday? Stay stressed and sexy, friends. 🎙️💃🔥 Links to things we talk about: https://www.rd.com/list/school-days-around-the-world/ https://www.theatlantic.com/family/archive/2018/09/school-day-parents/569401/ https://www.womenofinfluence.ca/2022/04/14/why-our-working-hours-should-match-our-kids-school-schedules/ https://youtu.be/of1kDYFJIVU Hang with us: Visit our Website Share an anonymous Vagina Scary Follow us on Insta (and DM us your thoughts, feelings and opinions!) Episode 22: Workin’ Moms on Netflix is My Life

Mom guilt, you say? Join the club. Except our take on that is a bit different than you may think. The hit series on Netflix, “Workin’ Moms” presents all kinds of motherhood-related themes, and today we use the show as the backdrop for a discussion around working-mom struggles, mom guilt, rage and more. We start by looking back at how TV moms have transformed from one-dimensional stereotypes into characters that truly resonate with us. This evolution sets the stage for "Workin Moms," a dark comedy that fearlessly lays bare the struggles women face while juggling careers and motherhood. We focus mostly on the show's sixth season, bursting with relatable themes – think navigating stepchild dynamics, trusting our maternal instincts, handling workplace tensions, and even wrestling with anger management like Anne. And then there's Kate, caught in the internal tug-of-war between work, kids and self-fulfillment. It's a struggle we all know too well. Catherine Reitman's quote, "I don't say I have to go to work, I say I get to go to work," struck a chord with us. It prompted introspection on how we handle those inevitable pangs of mom guilt. If you're a "Workin’ Moms" fan or someone threading the delicate path between career and motherhood, this one’s for you.
