HOA from Hell · Hold the Fort (2025) with Ardbeg Wee Beastie Single Malt Scotch

Welcome back to Midnight Movie Distillery where we watch the movies you've heard about… and drink the whiskey that helps us survive our neighbors. Tonight we're reviewing Hold the Fort — William Bagley's 74-minute suburban horror-comedy that premiered at Fantasia 2025 and had every genre-press outlet using words like "silly fun" and "punches above its weight." Lucas and Jenny move into "Gruber Hills," a copy-and-paste housing development, and discover their HOA has a rather more literal definition of "keeping out the wrong element." When a hellmouth opens under the manicured lawns, the community has to fight off a fighting-game-style parade of monsters — each wave escalating in threat level — through the night. Cabin in the Woods meets Attack the Block meets Grabbers. Tight, unpretentious, and knows exactly what it's trying to be. Paired with it: Ardbeg Wee Beastie — an Islay Scotch aged five years, released as an entry point to the smoky peated end of the Ardbeg lineup. All three of us went the same way on this pour, which doesn't happen often on this show. So pour yourself something strong… don't take issue with your neighbor's mailbox height regulations… and let's see if Bagley's siege comedy holds the fort or gets overrun. ▬ Contents of this video ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ 00:00 - Intro 01:30 - Alcohol Review 09:10 - Alcohol Barrel Rating 20:08 - Movie Review 21:38 - Movie Barrel Rating 38:45 - Outro ▬ Midnight Movie Distillery — watch it, drink it, rate it ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ All our horror + whiskey reviews: midnightmoviedistillery.com #midnightmoviedistillery #podcaster #podcasts #horrorpodcast #horrorjunkie #horrormovie #horrorfan #horror #horrormovies #2025horror #holdthefort #williambagley #fantasiafest #hoa #suburbanhorror #cabininthewoods #attacktheblock #grabbers #chrismayers #haleyleary #horrorcomedy #whiskey #whisky #whiskeylife #whiskeytasting #scotch #scotchwhisky #islayscotch #islay #peatedscotch #ardbeg #ardbegweebeastie

Do You Read Sutter Cane? · In the Mouth of Madness (1994) with True Story Bourbon Whiskey

Welcome back to Midnight Movie Distillery where we watch the movies you've heard about… and drink the whiskey that keeps us anchored to what's real. Tonight we're reviewing In the Mouth of Madness — the third and final film in John Carpenter's self-described "Apocalypse Trilogy," after The Thing (1982) and Prince of Darkness (1987). Sam Neill plays an insurance investigator hired to find bestselling horror novelist Sutter Cane, who has disappeared along with the manuscript of his final book. Trent finds Cane in Hobb's End, a town that doesn't appear on any map because it's a setting from one of Cane's novels. Reality starts behaving like the pages of a Cane book. And then reality IS one. Screenplay by Michael De Luca, who at the time was president of New Line Cinema — a horror novel about a horror author, written by a movie executive, playing a movie executive as the villain. Paired with it: True Story Bourbon Whiskey — a small-batch Kentucky pour with the same kind of unassuming reputation that Carpenter's late films had before critics circled back. So pour yourself something strong… don't finish any book that starts rewriting the reader… and let's see how a 1994 flop grew into a Carpenter high point. ▬ Contents of this video ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ 00:00 - Intro 01:50 - Alcohol Review 09:40 - Alcohol Barrel Rating 15:48 - Movie Review 18:04 - Movie Barrel Rating 36:55 - Outro 39:44 - Outro 2 ▬ Midnight Movie Distillery — watch it, drink it, rate it ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ All our horror + whiskey reviews: midnightmoviedistillery.com #midnightmoviedistillery #podcaster #podcasts #horrorpodcast #horrorjunkie #horrormovie #horrorfan #horror #horrormovies #classichorror #90shorror #inthemouthofmadness #johncarpenter #thething #princeofdarkness #apocalypsetrilogy #samneill #jurgenprochnow #davidwarner #charltonheston #hplovecraft #cosmichorror #lovecraftian #michaeldeluca #newlinecinema #whiskey #whisky #whiskeylife #whiskeytasting #bourbon #bourbonreview #truestorybourbon #kentuckybourbon

Deadites On Fire · Evil Dead Burn (2026) with Bulleit Mesquite & Buzzard's Roost Double Oak

Welcome back to Midnight Movie Distillery where we watch the movies you've heard about… and drink the whiskey that helps us survive them. Tonight we're reviewing Evil Dead Burn — the sixth film in Sam Raimi's franchise, first from French filmmaker Sébastien Vaniček (Infested), and by consensus the most brutal, most claustrophobic, most mean-spirited Deadite entry to date. Alice, freshly widowed, moves in with her husband's estranged family — descendants of a leading demonic-possession researcher. When her in-laws start transforming one by one into Deadites that feed on fear, she discovers that "til death do us part" was more binding than she signed up for. Weaponizes an increasingly ludicrous household inventory — corkscrews, fountain pens, dishwashers, shower curtains, fish hooks — in devilishly gnarly ways. Cameo callback to Alyssa Sutherland's Ellie from Evil Dead Rise. IndieWire called it "the single strangest Deadite movie to date." Paired with two bourbons tonight — a first for the show. Bulleit's Mesquite Smoked Malt (a bold, unusual take on the classic Bulleit profile) up front, then Buzzard's Roost Signature Double Oak (small-batch Kentucky, twice-oaked for depth) as the second round. Two bourbons because one felt insufficient for what this movie put us through. We found common ground on the pours; the movie is where we parted ways. So pour yourself something strong… don't open the basement door… and let's see whether Vaniček earns his place in the franchise. ▬ Contents of this video ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ 00:00 - Intro 01:08 - Alcohol Review (Bulleit Mesquite) 06:45 - Alcohol Barrel Rating (Bulleit Mesquite) 19:20 - Alcohol Barrel Rating (Buzzard's Roost) 23:25 - Movie Review 25:30 - Movie Barrel Rating 53:55 - Outro ▬ Midnight Movie Distillery — watch it, drink it, rate it ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ All our horror + whiskey reviews: midnightmoviedistillery.com #midnightmoviedistillery #podcaster #podcasts #horrorpodcast #horrorjunkie #horrormovie #horrorfan #horror #horrormovies #2026horror #evildead #evildeadburn #evildeadfranchise #sebastienvanicek #infested #samraimi #brucecampbell #leecronin #deadites #alyssasutherland #whiskey #whisky #whiskeylife #whiskeytasting #bourbon #bourbonreview #bulleit #bulleitmesquite #buzzardsroost #kentuckybourbon

Wedding Bait · Chum (2026) with The Big Smoke Islay Blended Malt Scotch

Welcome back to Midnight Movie Distillery where we watch the movies you've heard about… and drink the whiskey that carries us through them. Tonight we're reviewing Chum — a destination-wedding-in-Malta thriller where the yacht trip goes wrong in two directions at once: a shark in the water and a fisherman with an agenda closer to the boat than anyone realized. Sun-soaked vacation horror with two predators, one of which pays taxes. Alice Eve leads, IFC dumped it day-and-date with digital, and critics were not kind. Paired with it: The Big Smoke — an Islay-style blended malt Scotch aged in oak casks. Peaty, smoky, characterful — the pour did more work than the picture. So pour yourself something strong… stay off the boat if the wedding party is arguing… and let's see what we make of this one. ▬ Contents of this video ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ 00:00 - Intro 01:08 - Alcohol Review 10:10 - Alcohol Barrel Rating 25:05 - Movie Review 28:30 - Movie Barrel Rating 49:35 - Outro ▬ Midnight Movie Distillery — watch it, drink it, rate it ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ All our horror + whiskey reviews: midnightmoviedistillery.com #midnightmoviedistillery #podcaster #podcasts #horrorpodcast #horrorjunkie #horrormovie #horrorfan #horror #horrormovies #2026horror #chum #chummovie #sharkmovie #sharkhorror #aliceeve #malta #ifcfilms #jonathanzuck #whiskey #whisky #whiskeylife #whiskeytasting #scotch #scotchwhisky #islayscotch #islay #peatedscotch #thebigsmoke #blendedmalt

The Corpse Cleanse · Saccharine (2026) with Bear Fight American Single Malt Whisky

Welcome back to Midnight Movie Distillery where we watch the movies you've heard about… and drink the whiskey that helps us process what we just saw. Tonight we're reviewing Saccharine — Natalie Erika James (the writer-director of Relic) doing supernatural body-horror about Ozempic-era diet culture. A lovelorn Australian medical student takes ashes from a cadaver her gross-anatomy class has nicknamed "Big Bertha," turns them into pills, and starts losing weight rapidly. The ghost of the woman she's eating notices. Sundance Midnight premiere, IFC + Shudder pickup. Paired with it: Bear Fight American Single Malt Whisky — a blend of four American single malts distilled by four different craft distillers. So pour yourself something strong… don't take any pills you can't identify… and let's see whether the metaphor lands or overreaches. ▬ Contents of this video ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ 00:00 - Intro 01:00 - Alcohol Review 08:10 - Alcohol Barrel Rating 23:40 - Movie Review 26:40 - Movie Barrel Rating 43:56 - Outro ▬ Midnight Movie Distillery — watch it, drink it, rate it ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ All our horror + whiskey reviews: midnightmoviedistillery.com #midnightmoviedistillery #podcaster #podcasts #horrorpodcast #horrorjunkie #horrormovie #horrorfan #horror #horrormovies #2026horror #saccharine #saccharinefilm #natalieerikajames #relic #bodyhorror #shudder #ifcfilms #midorifrancis #daniellemacdonald #whiskey #whisky #whiskeylife #whiskeytasting #singlemalt #americansinglemalt #bearfight #craftwhiskey

Yellow Walls. Bad Vibes · Backrooms (2026) with Russell's Reserve Bourbon Single Barrel

Welcome back to Midnight Movie Distillery where we watch the movies you've heard about… and drink the whiskey that helps us argue about them. Tonight we're reviewing Backrooms — A24's adaptation of Kane Parsons' viral YouTube liminal-space horror series. A furniture-store owner opens a door in his basement that leads to an endless dimension of yellow-carpeted office rooms; his therapist follows him in when he goes missing. Kane Parsons was 16 when he started the Backrooms creepypasta on YouTube, 20 when he directed this feature, and just became the youngest filmmaker to open at #1 at the US box office. A24's highest grosser ever, and they even released an extended "Everything Must Go" cut. Paired with it: Russell's Reserve Bourbon Single Barrel — a hand-selected pull from Wild Turkey's cask program. Not everyone was on the same page about the movie. The pour brought us closer to agreement. So pour yourself something strong… don't wander through any doors you can't come back through… and let's see whether the yellow rooms live up to the hype. ▬ Contents of this video ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ 00:00 - Intro 02:00 - Alcohol Review 17:00 - Alcohol Barrel Rating 30:48 - Movie Review 32:45 - Movie Barrel Rating 1:08:00 - Outro ▬ Midnight Movie Distillery — watch it, drink it, rate it ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ All our horror + whiskey reviews: midnightmoviedistillery.com #midnightmoviedistillery #podcaster #podcasts #horrorpodcast #horrorjunkie #horrormovie #horrorfan #horror #horrormovies #2026horror #backrooms #backroomsmovie #kaneparsons #kanepixels #a24 #liminalspaces #chiwetelejiofor #renatereinsve #markduplass #whiskey #whisky #whiskeylife #whiskeytasting #bourbon #bourbonreview #russellsreserve #singlebarrel #wildturkey #kentuckybourbon

TV's Tiniest Terror · Trilogy of Terror (1975) with Widow Jane Decadence

Welcome back to Midnight Movie Distillery where we watch the movies you've heard about… and drink the whiskey that helps us appreciate where horror came from. Tonight we're reviewing Trilogy of Terror — Dan Curtis's 1975 made-for-TV anthology, three Richard Matheson stories, all starring Karen Black, all aired on ABC as a Movie of the Week. Two segments you may not remember. One segment you absolutely do: "Amelia," a woman alone in her apartment trying to survive a Zuni fetish doll that has come to life. Fifty-one years later, that ten-inch knife-wielding warrior is still one of the most-imitated villains in horror — even if the rest of the movie has aged less gracefully. Paired with it: Widow Jane Decadence Bourbon Finished in Maple Syrup Casks — a bourbon that turned a niche finish into something we kept coming back to in the glass. So pour yourself something strong… check that the gold chain is still on the doll… and let's see whether 1975 horror still earns its place on the shelf. ▬ Contents of this video ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ 00:00 - Intro 02:30 - Alcohol Review 09:55 - Alcohol Barrel Rating 27:25 - Movie Review 29:16 - Movie Barrel Rating 59:25 - Outro ▬ Midnight Movie Distillery — watch it, drink it, rate it ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ All our horror + whiskey reviews: midnightmoviedistillery.com #midnightmoviedistillery #podcaster #podcasts #horrorpodcast #horrorjunkie #horrormovie #horrorfan #horror #horrormovies #classichorror #70shorror #trilogyofterror #dancurtis #darkshadows #richardmatheson #karenblack #zunidoll #amelia #abcmovieoftheweek #anthologyhorror #whiskey #whisky #whiskeylife #whiskeytasting #bourbon #bourbonreview #widowjane #widowjanedecadence #maplebourbon #brooklynbourbon

Couples Retreat from Hell · Over Your Dead Body (2026) with Widow Jane 10yr

Welcome back to Midnight Movie Distillery where we watch the movies you've heard about… and drink the whiskey that helps us figure out whose side we're on. Tonight we're reviewing Over Your Dead Body — Jorma Taccone's English-language remake of Tommy Wirkola's Norwegian black-comedy The Trip (2021). Jason Segel and Samara Weaving as a married couple at a remote lakeside cabin for a "reconnection weekend." Both of them are secretly planning to murder the other. Then the cabin gets uninvited guests. Lonely Island director, BriTANick writers — the whole filmmaking team is comedy people bending toward genre. Paired with it: Widow Jane 10 Year Bourbon — a Brooklyn-distilled pour that ended up being one we mostly agreed on, which doesn't always happen on this show. So pour yourself something strong… mistrust your spouse a little… and let's see who makes it out of this one alive. ▬ Contents of this video ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ 00:00 - Intro 01:17 - Alcohol Review 08:35 - Alcohol Barrel Rating 18:51 - Movie Review 21:10 - Movie Barrel Rating 38:57 - Outro ▬ Midnight Movie Distillery — watch it, drink it, rate it ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ All our horror + whiskey reviews: midnightmoviedistillery.com #midnightmoviedistillery #podcaster #podcasts #horrorpodcast #horrorjunkie #horrormovie #horrorfan #horror #horrormovies #2026horror #overyourdeadbody #jormataccone #lonelyisland #thetrip2021 #tommywirkola #deadsnow #jasonsegel #samaraweaving #readyornot #timothyolyphant #juliettelewis #whiskey #whisky #whiskeylife #whiskeytasting #bourbon #bourbonreview #widowjane #widowjane10 #brooklynbourbon #craftbourbon
