Follow Thou Me: Trusting God With What We Cannot Know

This sermon explores the theme of divine withholding -- the truth that God has intentionally kept certain things from human knowledge, and that this is not a cause for anxiety but an invitation to deeper trust. The pastor walks through several categories of things believers are not meant to know, including the timing of Christ's return, another believer's calling, the shape of tomorrow, the motives of others' hearts, and the reason for personal suffering. Rather than treating this unknowing as a deficit, the sermon frames it as a call to intimacy with God. The answer to every unanswerable question is not more information -- it is a closer walk with the one who holds all answers. The repeated command of Christ to Peter, "Follow thou me," serves as the sermon's anchor and its practical conclusion: believers are not called to decode the hidden things, but to obey the last clear command they were given and keep moving toward Christ.

What We Are Not Meant to Know: Faith Beyond the Unanswered

Drawing from John 21, this sermon explores the biblical principle that God intentionally withholds certain knowledge from believers, not as a deprivation, but as an invitation to deeper faith and obedience. Just as Jesus redirected Peter's curiosity about John's fate with the simple command to "follow me," God consistently calls his people to trust and serve him without requiring full disclosure of his plans. The sermon identifies ten categories of knowledge that God reserves for himself, arguing that uncertainty in these areas should not hinder a believer's commitment to follow Christ. The pastor emphasizes that prayer is not a mechanism to change God's will but a discipline that aligns the believer with it, and that true faith means trusting the one who knows all things rather than demanding answers before moving forward.

Restored and Recommissioned: Christ's Call to Peter and the Responsibility of Shepherding

In this message, the pastor examines the seventh post-resurrection appearance of Christ, found in John 21, focusing on Jesus' threefold questioning of Peter and the commands that followed each response. Drawing on the distinction between Greek verbs used in the passage, the sermon explores the layered responsibilities of a shepherd: feeding young believers foundational doctrine, tending to the mature flock through protection and strategy, and applying corrective discipline when necessary. The pastor connects Peter's restoration to a broader truth about God's character -- that He does not discard those who have failed Him, but instead meets them at the very place of their failure, restores them, and recommissions them for service. The sermon calls every believer to examine the sincerity of their love for God and to respond to the same invitation Christ gave Peter: Follow me.

Restoration, Humility, and the Love That Only God Can Produce

Continuing a study through John 21, this sermon examines the three questions Jesus posed to Peter during his restoration, focusing on the distinction between agape love and phileo love. The pastor emphasizes that Peter's honest, humble answers reveal a foundational truth of the Christian life: no believer can produce the sacrificial, selfless love God requires through personal effort or willpower alone. Jesus repeatedly called Peter by his birth name, Simon son of Jonas, to remind him of his human origin and his inability to please God apart from divine power. The godly sorrow Peter experienced through this repeated questioning was not punishment but a necessary process of repentance and restoration. The sermon calls believers to stop striving in the flesh and instead yield to the Holy Spirit, who alone can produce genuine spiritual fruit and lasting ministry.

Do You Love Me? The Restoration of Peter

This sermon, the seventh in a series of ten, examines the recommissioning of Peter in John 21, focusing on the intentional and probing conversation Jesus initiates with him by the shores of Galilee. Drawing on the significance of charcoal fires, the Greek distinctions between types of love, and the deliberate use of Peter's given name, the pastor explores how Jesus lovingly but firmly brings Peter face to face with his past failure in order to restore him to usefulness. The sermon emphasizes that genuine service to God requires humility, honest self-examination, and an acknowledgment of our own limitations. Just as Peter had to confront his three denials before he could be recommissioned, believers today must come to terms with their weaknesses and depend entirely on God's strength rather than their own.

Called Again: Finding Purpose Beyond Discouragement

Drawing from the account of Jesus appearing to His disciples on the shore after His resurrection, this sermon examines how discouragement can cause believers to abandon their God-given calling and return to familiar, self-reliant patterns. Using Peter's return to fishing as a central illustration, the pastor explores how Jesus graciously pursues His people a second time, not because of their abilities or contributions, but because of His sovereign purpose for them. The sermon emphasizes that God values availability over ability, that His direction and power are essential to fruitful ministry, and that no failure disqualifies a believer from being used by God. The message closes with an encouragement to seek God's will actively, wait on His timing, and trust that as long as there is breath, there is purpose.

From Doubt to Devotion: What Thomas Teaches Struggling Believers

This sermon explores the sixth post-resurrection appearance of Jesus Christ, focusing on the account of Thomas and the lessons his journey from doubt to faith offers believers today. The pastor recaps the first five appearances -- to Mary Magdalene, the myrrh-bearing women, Peter, the Emmaus Road disciples, and the gathered disciples -- noting that in each case Jesus transformed negative spiritual conditions: confusion became understanding, fear became courage, and sadness became joy. The sermon then turns to Thomas, who was absent from the Sunday night gathering and refused to believe the disciples' testimony without physical proof. Eight days later, Jesus appeared again and met Thomas exactly where he was, providing the evidence needed to move him from faithlessness to one of the most profound declarations of Christ's deity in all of Scripture: "My Lord and my God." The pastor draws on this account to challenge believers to be honest about their doubts, remain connected to the body of Christ, bring their questions directly to God, and trust the testimony of Scripture as sufficient evidence for faith. The sermon closes by tracing Thomas's legacy as a missionary to India, demonstrating that God can transform a doubter into a fruitful, faithful servant.
