    PENNOD 8: Erddig, Caergwrle, a Chilgwri

    Welcome to another international episode of Doctoriaid Cymraeg! Although all segments were recorded in the UK, our discussions take us to Hong Kong, where our special guest Israel Lai is originally from. We also, somewhat unexpectedly, found ourselves musing on the Germanic and Scandinavian languages, before wafting into modern noir crime fiction and drama – of the Nordic and Welsh varieties! Israel Lai is a fascinating and multi-talented musician, language enthusiast, podcaster, and all round lovelyhuman being. He’s also very modest and most amusing (watch out for his reason for learning Welsh and lots of other things besides!) I met up with him when he visited Wrexham and we had a lovely chat over in the part of Wrexham known as ‘Erddig’; this is where I grew up, which is why I have chosen it for my new nom de plume/stage name: Sara Erddig.     PENNOD 7: Cilgwri, Caergwrle, a Kuwait

    PENNOD 6 | Episode 6 - Owrtyn

This episode we’re in the Cross Foxes pub just outside Overton-on-Dee for a chat with Ceri Morgan - who grew up in these parts, learned Welsh as an adult, and then set up one of only a few Welsh conversation groups over the border in England.     PENNOD 4 | Episode 4 - Saltney Ferry

    This episode has brought us to Saltney Ferry - and to a group of learners and speakers keeping Cymraeg alive and kicking right on the border with England. Today, we’re talking to Lars about his TAITH IAITH and how learning Welsh has changed his life, we’ll hear about the name ‘Saltney’ and whether or not there’s a Welsh version of it, there’s plenty of chatter about the intricacies of Welsh grammar, and Sara shares some of her recent work writing poetry about Afon Dyfrdwy (the River Dee).     For episode 3, we went back to where the fledgling idea for this very podcast first came about; the wonderful Honey’s Café and Bakery in Caergwrle. Today, we chat about Welsh-medium education, discuss Wrecsam AFC (again!), talk idioms, proverbs, grammar, we’ll announce the winner of our giveaway, and we interview Honey’s owner, Coleen, who’s made Welsh a big part of her business since establishing the café.     PENNOD 1 - Episode 1 - Saith Seren, Wrecsam

    CROESO CYNNES - a warm welcome - to our new podcast DOCTORIAID CYMRAEG. In this, our very first episode recorded alongside Clwb Clebran - the Welsh learners’ group meeting weekly in Wrecsam’s Saith Seren, we discuss all manner of things relating to the Welsh language, as well as interviews with Rhys Parry (who’s been challenging himself to start EVERY conversation in Welsh in aid of Prostate Cancer) and Debbie Murray (who’s been a regular at Clwb Clebran for many years). We learnt so much doing this podcast - including how we could do with better microphones! - and we’re really looking forward to the next one. A huge diolch to Rhys Parry for his interview and his continued expertise in producing the podcast.
