    Part-Time with Cobin Soelberg

Send us Fan Mail In this episode, Dawn Baker talks with Cobin Soelberg. Cobin is an M.D., J.D. who practices anesthesiology part-time in Bend, Oregon. He also serves as an expert witness in medical malpractice cases. Since 2020, he has also run Greeley Wealth Management, a financial planning firm built on a simple premise of a physician working for physicians.  Outside of work, Cobin spends as much time as he can in the Cascade Mountains with his wife, Julie, and son, Wes, skiing, mountain biking, and exploring the backroads in their truck. Over the past eighteen months, his part-time clinical schedule has given him more room for reading, writing, and epic Lego sessions with Wes.  Cobin is a longtime friend and medical school classmate who I’ve watched buck the traditions of medical training and practice for more than 20 years. We discuss the joys of part-time medicine, Cobin’s roundabout way of getting to his current dream schedule, how to get your organization to allow for alternative schedules, and some great talk about personal finance.  Relevant/mentioned links: ** Subscribe to the Practice Balance newsletter and get a fun, educational training video about the one thing that's likely holding you back from better work-life balance! ** Books - The Power of Regret by Daniel Pink, The Pathless Path by Paul MillardThe Pathless Path Podcast - Why Sheryl Sandberg is Wrong - Dawn Baker on the Art of Leaning OutLean Out Podcast - Joy with Cory FawcettGet in touch with Cobin: Substack - Medicine, Money and MeaningWebsite - Greeley Wealth ManagementGet in touch with Dawn: Website - practicebalance.comInstagram - @practicebalanceFacebook - Dawn BakerLinkedIn - Dawn L Baker, MDBuy the Lean Out BookBuy the Lean Out Confidence Course (code POD gives you $50 off!)

Send us Fan Mail In this episode, Dawn Baker talks with Mary Jeanne Roberts. Mary Jeanne is a Certified Anesthesiologist Assistant (CAA) with nearly two decades of clinical experience. She's an AA educator, mindfulness practitioner, and founder of the Awakened Anesthetist, an educational brand built exclusively for the CAA community.  Mary Jeanne loves to live slowly in her suburban home in Kansas City with her husband and three children. Her favorite time of day is morning coffee on the deck, and her newest expression of self is learning to play the native five-hole flute. Mary Jeanne begins the discussion by sharing the unique career path of a CAA. We talk about intentionality as a way to balance ambition, and how you can make an impact in your own way, on your own timetable. Mary Jeanne doesn’t have a classic burnout story but would consider her journey one of growing and expanding. We also talk about the concept of "enough," and how the whole landscape shifts when you know you have it.  Relevant/mentioned links: Subscribe to the Youtube channel HERE!
